Don't be the next victim by choosing Available AC for service or installs. Originally I had Don White (1st mistake) install an Amana unit (a brand he recommended but has since quit selling them due to quality warranty issues) – 5 yrs. & 2 months from install, AC unit quits cooling - low on Freon – contacted Don, he wouldn't come until 8:30 am next day, slept in hot house - next day 7/27/16 Don arrives 7:50 am before my buddy was to be at house (I was at work) – he calls me & informed him how to get into house (2nd mistake) no one watching him do the actual service, he said the high pressure fitting to inside unit coil was loose – tighten fitting added 2.5 lb. 410A charged $218.
3 days later unit not cooling – low on Freon again – he wouldn't come until the next day – again slept in hot house. He arrived next day (Saturday 7/30) confirmed low Freon – initially couldn't detect leak around coil – went & added a small amount of Freon – falsely detected leak at coil – left saying he would check warranty on Monday – AC unit never cooled after he left – couldn’t stay any longer in hot house, finally deciding to buy two windows AC units from SAMs (2 story house).
Monday I was informed by Don the coil unit was not covered by warranty (2 months out, he never handed me the unit paperwork & he never instructed me to register the unit for warranty reason – if he had, then why wouldn't I? Don left the paperwork next to unit where I found it).
At this point Don’s asking $1200 for coil replacement. I wisely discussed the issue with a buddy who has been in HVAC business for years (still licensed but is currently semi-retired) – with this buddy’s assistance, the leaking Freon issue was troubleshot to the Schrader valve on AC unit (outside unit low pressure side – the valve used to refill Freon) Don had installed plastic caps not metal, this is why the system lost Freon. The valve core (similar to bike cycle tire valve) was replaced, issue is now resolved.
On 9/8, unit currently still cooling correctly, Don was contacted by phone requesting a refund for the obvious misdiagnosis. Don’s original service wasn’t the solution. I was attempting to resolve this issue in a business manner beneficial to us both but he refused. Don’s response was to hang up on me.
As a consumer who wasn’t treated fairly, my experience with this business was horrible.
Choose wisely, there are lots of AC companies in the Austin area – why take a chance on going through my ordeal?
