I needed an outlet installed in my garage. Called Mr. Electric, and secured an appointment within a week. Price felt a little high, but was comparable to estimates researched. Completed in the same day. Keeping them in my contacts for future work.

I requested quote for meter box replacement and separate quote for meter box and panel upgrade to 200 Amps. I had already priced general job prices in the area, the process (permits, disconnects, etc...) and parts costs beforehand. I had a friend that was a master electrician look over the job and gave me quotes. Though he is still master electrician licensed he no longer has a contractor license and therefore wasn't allowed to get the permit to complete the work. So now I was looking for a person to hire for the job.

Everyone I interacted with at this company was friendly, polite and the response time was great (same day quote). When the electrician got here for the quote, he opened up the panel and stated the panel had to be replaced too because the buss bars were discolored (gold tone instead of silver), one wire had signs of high heat in the past and the wire from the meter box to the main breaker had a humming to it. I said okay and that I was looking for quotes. He then restated that the panel had to be replaced and added '...or else there might be a fire.' I thought great, that is what I am getting quotes for...thanks for confirming. Then, he continued on about how 'bad' the panel needed to be replaced (which is why I called). It began to feel like this was a hard sell to me and for something I was already wanting to be done.

Finally I said great, that's why I called, give me the quote. When he gave the quote, I could not help but laugh a little. It was more than double the national highest costs reported, found when researching the job, and more than 3 times the average cost of the job for my area. I couldn't figure out how my small basic house with wiring just like every other house in the neighborhood would be more than 3 times the normal cost for any other house (fancy wiring houses included) in the area and double the national highest reported. I told him it was high but thanked him.

Overall I would recommend the company for a quote. It never hurts to get quotes but definitely price compare. The differences could save you several thousand dollars.
