There was a double oven unit in the kitchen at our church that didn't appear to be working. It didn't take the technician long to determine that the control panel had gone out and informed me that Whirlpool had stopped making that particular control panel. He was very polite.

Most charge for a service call and charge you if you decide not to let them work on your appliance. Southwest appliance repair came out, parts for my dryer are not being made anymore. They did not charge me for coming out.

So we called to have someone fix our problem. The tech came out stayed about 15 minutes took a picture. Said he could not fix it and for us to call other company. And it would be $90.93 and just ran out.

I scheduled an appointment online around 8:00 AM on Wednesday, February 26. I was anxious for same-day service, so when we had not heard from anybody by about 10:30 in the morning I had my husband call. The young woman that answered the phone was friendly and got us scheduled for a service call between 6 and 8 PM same day. We already had some ideas about what could be wrong with our GE front load washing machine, but we opted to go ahead and have a technician come have a look and we planned to have it repaired as needed. Their $50 off online coupon to use towards repairs also made it appealing to us!
The technician arrived at our home around 7:40 PM. I was not home yet from work, but my husband was. The tech immediately took the front panel apart and ran some tests on the control board and within five minutes determined that the control board was bad. It didn’t make any sense to me since the washing machine had never thrown an error code- but we just agreed that it needed to be replaced. I was curious as to the price (my husband was texting me throughout the appointment) and the next text that I got said the model number was scratched & unreadable.
I was caught off guard with this reply and told my husband I couldn’t understand how there was no way for him to find the model number & that I was pretty sure it would be easily found on the Internet. The technician just kind of threw his hands up and said there was nothing more he could do, that the model number was scratched & he was going to be unable to provide a quote for repair services because he couldn’t track down the correct part without it. This upset me and I told my husband then I absolutely had no intent to pay the service call fee considering if at that point the service had not been completed. I was never given a quote for services!
I then overheard the technician tell my husband in the background that he wasn’t going to charge a service call fee, but “if I thought that I was so smart, for me to go ahead and pull it off the Internet.” As you can imagine- this upset me further and I told my husband the technician needed to go ahead & leave, that I was on my way home from work and it was gonna be advisable that he was gone before I got there. I arrived no more than 10 minutes later.
The first thing my husband showed me when I walked in the door was a picture on his phone he had just himself taken of the clear model number on the side of the washing machine. I threw my hands up and asked my husband what they were even looking at when the technician said it was scratched and unreadable. You ready for this? Lol..... There is a small sticker on the INSIDE of the washing machine door that this man was trying to get the model number off of. Obviously over time, it has become unreadable. It is also NOT the main sticker that has all the washing machine information on it.
There is a large sticker on the side of the washing machine towards the bottom that had all the information that he needed, clearly legible. He would’ve found that, had he even bothered to pull the washing machine away from the wall. My husband was the one that found it simply by moving the washing machine after the technician left. So then I became uneasy with the information that he even provided about the control board being bad- because clearly this man never even pulled the washing machine away from the wall to even look at the backside of it. For all we know it might’ve been clogged? He never tested or looked at anything else other than the control board. He didn’t seem to make too much effort to determine any other factors outside of just saying the control board was bad (an easy $300+ repair).
I do plan to call the main office tomorrow and speak with someone about this technicians unprofessionalism. But this is just a heads up to anyone else considering this business. I would definitely call around! A $50 off coupon doesn’t suffice when the technician doesn’t bother to put much work in & operates with questionable ethics. -
Professional, on time, competent. Couldn't ask for better service. Second time I've had to use them. Was very happy with the first repair on my dryer. That's why I used them again.
