Landscaping reviews in West Jordan, Utah

We had Cottonwood landscape finish our backyard 8 years ago. Now we are paying another company to fix everything they did. The patio that they did is cracked all over and completely hollow beneath it. And our fire-pit only lasted one season before it began to fall apart.
-
The folks at Cottonwood were awesome from start to finish. They were able to help us design something that perfectly fit how we wanted to use it, even amongst historical permitting and a lot of physical space limitations. Their workers were clean, conscientious and very friendly. They worked very quickly and their attention to detail is amazing. If we had another yard to work with, we would absolutely hire them again.

Cottonwood Landscapes (CL) re-landscaped about half of my backyard and built an outdoor kitchen and fire pit. You should know that the Owner, Dan and his brother, Nate, are very good at selling you a bill of goods. They are very personable and very smooth talkers. Their line is that CL isn't the cheapest company, but they are by far the highest quality. Since I was looking for quality and Dan was very convincing, I went ahead with them, even though their bid was the highest.
1) Their contract was very heavily weighted toward advance payment with a large majority of the payment being due before completion. I negotiated something more reasonable. And it didn't occur to me that I'd be ripped off with sparsely placed, very small plants, so I didn't ask that the contract indicate their size in laymen's terms - my bad!
2.) The quality was poor. ALL of the plants were all incredibly small. And because the contract wasn't in laymen's terms, I had no recourse. I was told by Nate that everything they planted was designed to grow and fill in fast. No reasonable person would look at our yard now and say the plantings are full, in year 3. We were definitely overcharged on plant size and quality. And parts of the install were not only sparsely planted, but with absolutely no symmetry or pattern. Basically, the plants were just randomly stuck in the ground. When I asked Dan about it later, he told me I hadn't asked for a "formal" style of landscape design. Wow!
3.) Throughout the projects there were repeated attempts to get me to accept product that was damaged (fire pit ring, fridge door, grill cover, granite), and work that was unfinished (grill cabinet, landscaping). When I insisted that the items be addressed, almost every issue required multiple calls to CL, with most resulting in promises of returned calls which never came, or a promise to be back on site at a certain time, which didn't happen. Then when they did finally return, it would be with no advance notice. And there were several instances of them not accepting responsibility and trying to blame the condition of things on me (fridge door, dead tree, dead plants).
4.) Very bad communication, especially after the install, as stated above. On both projects, they requested final payment before final completion, with the woman doing so being quite demanding and borderline rude. And once they are paid, they don't want to speak with you again. It literally took me months to get them to address a dead tree. Twice! The best quality of service and response that I had in dealing with them was by far and away from their subcontractors, Marathon Electric and JR Broderick Plumbing.
5.) They nickle and dimed me to death. They don't tell you in advance that they will plant so sparsely with such small plants that you will want to add plants (that they will charge you through the nose for). They don't tell you in advance that you will need mulch or wood chips (that they will charge you through the nose for), or that their mulch is very poor quality and short-lived (1 season). And on one visit when I asked Nate for a quote to sell me a couple of shrubs to replace ones that the dog had chewed, I was quoted a price that was TWICE the cost of the same plant type at Millcreek Gardens (not on sale and 50% larger than the ones Cottonwood planted). That's when I was certain I was being taken for a ride.
6.) When I tried to get them to replace a pine tree that died within 8 months, it took easily a dozen texts and calls and several months. When the replacement tree also died within 8 months, it was the same experience, but they accepted no responsibility, because their warranty is just for "workmanship". Workmanship? On live plants? Shameful.
If you have yet to make the mistake that I did and are still considering using them, 1) See Yelp, and 2) Get in the contract a reasonable payment schedule, the size and number of plants, and details of their warranty. And then be prepared to have to work your butt off to get them to deliver what they promised. -
I am so guys I hired these guys. They were prompt, efficient, kind, responsible, clean... the list goes on and on...Mike, the project manager is so helpful.. he takes all of your calls and texts with promptness and knowledge. I will only use them going forward.

I contacted Milburn a few weeks ago so I could get a quote for weekly lawn service as well as getting a quote for a backyard design. No return call.
I called again last week, mentioning that I had not gotten a call back and that I was still interested. Still no return call.
Businesses like Milburn are part of the growing problem in Utah, where companies do not want to demonstrate good customer service and work to earn your business. 3 weeks later and still no call. Absolutely unacceptable.
Edit: I have changed my 1 star review to a 5 star.
I appreciate the owner contacting me, apologizing for not communicating earlier and provided justification for that incident. The organization has since contacted me, providing lawn service that is above and beyond. I greatly appreciate when an organization explains an incident and does a great job in their work and service. -
I have worked with this company on a couple different projects. Each time has been really good. The prices are good, the staff is super friendly and has performed the jobs we needed very quickly and the workmanship is top notch. I would highly recommend using them for any and all your landscaping needs. They are truly incredible.

I was in a bind after a sprinkler hose burst. Millburn Lawn and Landscape was fast and professional.

Overall, very pleased with our spring “clean up” project. Workers were very efficient, although very limited English speaking skills. Bindy the office manager is a true gem/professional. Super friendly and extremely responsive. Would use this company again because of Bindy.

I have a slightly larger lot that because of health issues I could not take care of the way it was. They designed a new landscape that is water-wise and the way I like it. I was listened to which sometimes with professionals it just doesn't happen. The men doing the hard work were always courteous when I had concerns, and they did hard work. A good deal of my lot was cleared out along with a bunch of broken concrete. New walks and rv pad was poured and a new patio was laid with pavers. They tore out my old firepit and redid it with my flagstone with a raised garden bed next to it. They also put a dry river bed that goes from the front to the back. A new watering drip system was installed and even more. I enjoyed working with them and were exactly what I had been looking for.
I have had several parties just to show neighbors, friends, and family. They have all loved it and several have made comments that they would like to copy some of the things that were done. -
Front office was very helpful and friendly. The service tech that worked on my yard was very knowledgeable and professional.

After consulting several landscapers for our complex backyard project, Millburn Lawn and Landscape stood out for their creativity and budget-consciousness. While others offered uninspired solutions, Millburn listened to our needs and delivered beyond expectations—all within a reasonable price.
Our project included:
1. Multi-level patio with stylish, affordable pavers
2. Custom water feature doubling as a drainage solution
3. Native plant landscaping
4. Smart lighting design
5. Cost-effective rain harvesting system
Throughout the process, their team showed remarkable professionalism, creativity, and adaptability. We now have a breathtaking outdoor living space that has become the envy of our neighborhood. What truly sets Millburn Lawn and Landscape apart is their ability to handle complex projects with innovative solutions, all while offering fair and transparent pricing.
If you’re looking for a landscaping company that can bring ambitious visions to life and tackle challenging projects, I wholeheartedly recommend Millburn Lawn and Landscape. -
Mike is very very professional, I am a general contractor and over the years I've had lots of landscapers say one thing and do the complete opposite and Mike is not that person. He does exactly what he says he's going to do and I love that. He stays at the price that he quotes and his attention to detail is spot on. I never have to worry about babysitting the job. I would absolutely recommend him

I moved into a new home in Eagle mountain with an unusable sloped dirt backyard. They had a landscape designer come out and help me figure out what I could do with it. We fixed the slope and put in a retaining wall. They also put in grass, sprinklers, a nice patio, a paver area for a hot tub, a flower bed, and several fabulous trees! They were incredibly easy to work with and very professional! The follow up has been amazing. They came after the project and got my sprinklers ready for turning them on for the season and guaranteed their work for a year. I had it done in the winter and I was kind of worried about plants dying, or the sod not taking root, but they have been fabulous to work with!

We couldn't be more thrilled with how Millburn Lawn and Landscape transformed our backyard into a stunning outdoor living space. From our first meeting, they impressed us with creative, well-thought-out plans and detailed designs that perfectly captured our vision. Their innovative suggestions, including a curved patio with an integrated fire pit and custom water feature, created a perfect flow throughout the space.
The execution matched their excellent planning. Their skilled team handled every detail with precision, from intricate stonework to strategic lighting and thoughtful plant selection. Communication was outstanding throughout the project, making the entire experience seamless and stress-free.
The result is a breathtaking outdoor retreat that has exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Millburn Lawn and Landscape - their creativity, attention to detail, and exceptional craftsmanship truly set them apart from the competition. -
We moved to West Jordan and all of the landscaping had overgrown since the previous owners had last trimmed. Jonathan G. and his crew from Millburn came out and did a fantastic job cleaning up a TON of trees, bushes, and the super long grass for us. He was incredibly nice and attentive to our wishes, even after we changed direction on a couple of things and they had to redo them.
We would definitely use them again 👍🏼 -
Horribly overpriced!! We wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone as they overcharge you for the service and lie to your face get their service. First, when we called them and asked if they have a lawn mower that would could cut about 4 inch weeds in a yard, they answered yes they do. However, it wasn’t true at all. Their team showed up without giving a heads up and explained that their first appointment didn’t answered their doors so they decided to show up at our house without the lawn mower they promised they had. Before they started I told the three members of the crew to focus on the back yard first but they kept insisting to take down a tree that was broken the front yard and only one person started working in the backyard. He started using weed wacker and it kept breaking every few minutes and so I called and asked if they were using the right tool but obviously they weren’t…had they used the lawn mower as the person on the phone promised it probably would’ve taken them only few hours. Instead it took them 8 hours. During it, two of the team members left for hours and only One guy was working. No idea how they managed to bill us 2k. Ridiculously over priced!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!
To respond back to you, If you would have told us that you couldn’t use a lawn mower than we would’ve been fine with that but the fact is we specifically asked you guys on the phone if your lawn mowers were strong enough to handle 3 to 4 ft of grass and you said yes! But then all that was used was weed eater which took all day to do.
And as far as breaks go we are fine with taking breaks that’s no problem especially in the heat. But when we get charged for 4 people all day but for half of the day there was only 2 people working there it doesn’t seem right to us. Unless your breaks are for hours at a time?
And yes we meant 3-4 feet not 3 inches. The biggest problem with all of this is we specifically asked if a lawn mower would be used and you lied to us about that and then we get stuck paying this massive bill because it ended up taking longer than what we were told it would take. Over $2k for 9-10 hours of work on the backyard only is pretty ridiculous with only a minimal work done in the front yard. Very pricey. -
Poor landscaping maintenance quality! Our subdivision/HOA chose this company after the first one was absolutely terrible. This company is no different.
The mowing is lackluster, left long and areas missed. Along with in the inability to move things out of the paths of the mowers, like weeds, trash, and people’s belongings that get shredded up and spread all over for homeowners to clean up. That is only one issue of many. I can also point to the trimming that is a hack job at best. I personally trim our lawn the morning before the crew shows up in the afternoon.
The maintenance side of the landscaping is nonexistent and maintaining sprinklers is another. Our trees have been damaged and the grass in the neighborhood is half dead and plenty of weeds growing through. It looks absolutely terrible. Our HOA had a board meeting recently and hoping to replace this company sooner than later. Most public works have better landscape care than Millburn. -
Thank you to Millburn, you guys do my weekly mowing. You guys have, weeded & trimed my yard for over 6 years and always do a good job! The three gentelmen that came today did a great job. Fast& seemed to take it like it was there own yard. Thanks again!

This a great company to work with, and their teams do excellemt yard work! I've hired them for multiple jobs, specifically extensive flower garden cleanup, and would recommend them to friends, family, and whoever is looking for a reputable company online. I wish I had before and after pictures to share!
