Remodeler reviews in Fairfax, Virginia

Bob and his team did a full master bathroom and closet renovation for us in Arlington and he was a pleasure to work with, and the work is both beautiful and also top-notch in quality.

Working with Berriz Design Build has been an exceptional experience.

At Real Space Digital, we work with companies across many industries, and it becomes very clear very quickly when a team operates at a different level of craftsmanship and care. Berriz Design Build is one of those rare teams.

What stands out most is their ability to take a client’s vision—sometimes just an idea or a feeling—and transform it into something tangible, timeless, and beautifully executed that exceeds expectations. Their process is thoughtful, organized, and deeply collaborative, making the entire experience feel less like a construction project and more like a creative partnership.

Their attention to detail is remarkable. From the earliest design conversations to the final touches, every element reflects a commitment to quality, precision, and long-term durability. It’s clear they are not simply building projects—they’re creating environments families will enjoy for decades.

Through our work helping capture the spaces they create and the stories of the families they serve, we’ve seen firsthand the breadth of their craftsmanship. Whether it’s custom covered decks, Juliet balconies, outdoor cooking spaces, thoughtfully designed in-home caretaker suites, entertaining areas, Olympic-style fire pits, or outdoor living masterpieces that seamlessly blend indoor comfort with the beauty of the outdoors, every project reflects intentional design and grounded aesthetics paired with modern functionality.

What also sets them apart is their commitment to constant improvement and the relationships they build with the people they serve. They take the time to listen, learn, and grow alongside their clients. Their approach is not transactional—it’s relational, and they remain invested long after the project is complete.

From our perspective working alongside them, the level of professionalism, communication, and passion their team brings to each project is truly impressive. They care deeply about their clients, and that shows in both the process and the final result.

For anyone looking for a design-build firm that combines vision, craftsmanship, and a truly client-centered approach, Berriz Design Build stands in a class of its own.

We’re proud to collaborate with them, an honor to support showcasing the incredible spaces they bring to life.

Bob was a complete lifesaver after our previous builder left us without a roof and an expensive bill. Bob stepped in and reestablished trust, which was massive after the first ordeal. Then Bob became a true partner providing advice and counsel to bring our dreams to reality. We provided our input and Bob offered computerized designs to depict exactly what we would see- it was extremely cool to see our housing design change colors and even how the sunlight would hit the house at different times of the day. And the best part- Bob was on-time and below budget, while adding unique features like a space-age toilet or motion lights in the closet. I could not be happier with Berriz design and absolutely love how the project finished.

I never apologize.
I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am.

Horrible company... No communication, no follow through, no returning phone calls.. They started a job in September, it is the end of January and the job is still not complete. I suggest if you do not want a headache call another company.

Honestly, probably the best designer and most creative problem solver I have met. Bob is very gifted in his ability to see things spatially and to find solutions to problems encountered in the field.

Bob and his team are a pleasure to work with. I have used them for three projects and their attention to detail is top notch. They do truly beautiful work and I look forward to working with them again.

Berriz Design Build Group has completed several projects for us: master bath and master bedroom renovation, kitchen and family room renovation, addition of large front porch, replacement of deck with two terraces, and extensive landscaping.

The level of customization and design creativity are exceptional. Workmanship is done to a high standard. The owner has special ability, the best that I have experienced in this type of work, to translate customers' wants into practical solutions.

Bob is extremely professional. Our project went smoothly and efficiently with gorgeous results. Our expectations were exceeded and we love the work Bob and his crew did!

We hired Berriz Design Build Group to do numerous projects. We were very pleased with their exceptional quality of work, their innovation (turning our initial ideas into something much better), and their vision for the project as a whole - everything flowed nicely from one room to another. They were professional from start to finish and easy to work with.

Bob's team created a beautiful state of the art Kitchen/pantry/laundry room for us. They are professional, timely and work with the highest quality vendors. All issues were addressed timely and he stands behind all of his work. Kathy

My Wife and I contracted Berriz Design Build Group for a deck patio project north of $200k on October 1st of 2020. At this price premium there is an expectation of not only quality but timely, professional service. To say Bob Berriz of BDBG fails miserably on the latter would be a gross understatement.

To start Bob required a hefty down payment with the agreement that this project would be delivered by the end of the calendar year (December 31st 2020). After the entire month of October went by without even an email, I reached out prior to Thanksgiving to inquire about the delay and Bob began what I would come to realize was an elaborate web of excuses, lies and incompetence. To cut to the chase, no one showed up on site until February of 2021 and as we sit here November 12th of 2021 we are still not even close to being done (Day 407).

After a few weeks of work in February, Bob and his crew disappeared until April. Again, Bob laid on the excuses thick, but when we asked him for documents of his correspondence with the County (his excuse for what was causing the delays), he would conveniently forget, promise “next time”, or change the subject all together. Frustrated with the lack of professionalism and a concrete plan, we asked Bob to furnish a project plan that would give us a sense of when this effort would complete and asked for a revised payment schedule given his inability to manage the project effectively. Again, the excuses and the tangled web of nonsense ensued. Similar to the first time on site, Bob and his team were around for a few weeks and then disappeared until late June. By this point, the grill and pizza oven that we purchased for the outdoor kitchen had been in boxes for six months. When they were finally opened and installed, damages to the grill were discovered. Given the time lapse, we could not return or exchange the equipment. To this, Bob took no responsibility and blamed us for not utilizing one of “his guys”.

After refusing to pay anymore installments, Bob gave his word that things would get back on track and his team would focus on my project. For a few weeks, I thought we had real change and then it all came crashing down when we failed our electrical and gas inspections. What was supposed to be a small misunderstanding with what had been previously submitted to the county has now taken 5 MONTHS and counting to rectify. This failed inspection was prior to July 4th 2021 and needless to say, no one has been onsite since. I again have asked for correspondence with the county, phone calls to get updates anything to be treated with respect but nothing.

Given Bob Berriz has not responded to a single text, email, phone call, since September of this year, i will continue to post here with updates until the project is complete (Day 407).

We used Bob to remodel our entire home in Arlington, Virginia and couldn’t be happier with the results! We have an older 1940s home that hadn’t been updated since then and Bob somehow gave us a new house that look like it’d been this way all along. Working with him was such a great time and our project was done quickly and to a super high quality. He would suggest things along the way that we hadn’t thought of that were much better than our vision. All of the crews he had on our job site were incredibly professional and the best at what they do. We have a few projects we’d like to tackle in the future and we will definitely be using Berriz Design Build Group!

Bob Berriz and his team were excellent to work with over a series of home renovation projects. We started with a major deck and landscaping project that went flawlessly. Bob was creative and very helpful in the design phase and then executed the build phase on time and to specifications. We were so pleased with Bob’s quality of work that we turned to him a few years later to renovate our basement. Again, we had and excellent experience. A few years later we renovated bathrooms, wood floors and our kitchen. It was critical that this project be completed so we could celebrate Thanksgiving at our home. Bob ensured the project was completed on time and the kitchen is beautiful. All the experiences were great ones. We have recommended Bob to many friends and all have enjoyed similar experiences.

Bob took our drab, aged kitchen and opened it up with an award winning design! He entered our kitchen won the regional contractor of the year award for kitchens. A true pleasure to work with, top quality work and reliable crews. This is definitely the heart of our house. Thanks Bob!

Wonderful to work with. We’ve used Berriz twice once for a basement remodel and the son’s time for kitchen/living room/bathroom remodel.

HS Services, LLC, replaced our front door with a new Provia door. The sales guy was very accommodating to our ideas and responsive to our needs regarding the HOA requirements. There was a significant delay in actually getting the door - no fault of HB Services; factory was delayed - but the installation was smooth. In fact, they discovered our threshold had rotted, and they were able to fix it on the spot for a minimal cost. All in all, very happy with their services and would use them again.

HB Home Services has done a major and a not so major but still really important remodel in my house. A number of years ago I had my kitchen completely gutted and remodeled. I still love it as we chose timeless kitchen cabinets etc. That project went so well that I recently updated my laundry room. That may not seem so important except that it is the first room that 95% of the guests to my home have to enter into in order to reach my kitchen or family room. It was important to utilize every bit of space and also to make the room not only pretty but super functional as well. Mallory drew up various room renderings for me to choose from. I then chose my new laundry room cabinets to match the cabinets in my kitchen from their prior remodel and then chose a durable but beautiful floor and quartz countertop to finish it off…all with the guidance of HB’s highly knowledgeable remodeling staff. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of both rooms and wondered why it took me so long to initiate the process. You can trust HB with any of your home remodeling needs!

HB Services did a great job replacing our back deck and railings. Their pricing was competitive, and the quality of their work was top notch. Jimmy, Kerry and the team communicated well through out the project and were responsive when I reached out. Thanks for the great service.

Martese is an OUTSTANDING Project Manager! He is extremely professional and knowledgeable. We knew what was going to happen every day of the process and we could not be happier with the results. He communicated very clearly and frequently about everything and kept a very close eye on the crews doing the work. He treated our home like his own. He provided a truly exceptional level of care and attention to detail. This was our second time using HB. I strongly recommend them for both high-end renovations and more basic work.

Hello HB Services LLC,

I just wanted to let you know that I am very happy with the results of my bathroom renovation. The entire experience — from Jimmy’s estimate, through demo and build was professionally and courteously done. Everyone of your employees was not only expert at their trade and did a great job of cleaning up on site every day.

Rudy was a great project manage. He was attentive to my design ideas and accommodating to a couple of the changes we had make along the way.

All in all, a very positive renovation experience and I’m happy with the outcome.
