I emailed Sequim Valley Electric describing the various electrical issues I had that had been neglected or left unfinished by previous handyman and now that my elderly mom with alzheimers was living with me, I needed to make sure it was safe. I was given a date & time for someone to come by and give me an estimate. When Marty arrived I showed him the light fixture hanging in the kitchen and told him of a breaker that was dead. He immediately began testing outlets and asked if I had any new outlets he could use. I apologized about the house being a bit cramped but had just sold my mom's house as she could no longer live alone or take care of things. I had to move everything to my house, garage, shed, etc. He became irritated by the lack of immediate access to an outdoor outlet. I threw everything on the patio. In the house, he pulled the sectional into the.middle of the room then began insulting my home because the furniture was in the way. The irritation grew and I found myself apologizing over and over. I didn't know he would be doing any work that day. I had been told an estimate at which time he would tell me where he would need clear access to upon start of job. He finally said he couldn't work here, and how no one would work without access. At this point I had literally been reduced to tears. As he walked to the door he said he'd send me a bill. Then left. I still have the light hanging in the kitchen & no electricity in 2 bedrooms. I sent a message to his office who had been very attentive and eager to get me an estimate. Never got one. Was advised to hire a handyman and told how much stress Marty has been under from work overload. She had several suggestions of others I should call upon. She was going to have their other electrician come by at the end of the month to see what it would take to finish up. I haven't heard back and there us 2 days left in the month. I only gave 2 stars due to the initial response from the office staff. Very quick to get back to me and get an estimate and start date set up. But I normally don't pay people to come in my home and begin insulting it and pushing my furniture in the middle of the room, leaving it there. Leaving kitchen light hanging from ceiling from bare wires. I'm now looking for another professional to wrap all this up. I am already stressed and p/o'd by someone who was paid yet left things unfinished and my tools in the rain. I am hesitate to call someone else. I don't need criticism, I need help.

I first reached out to this electrician thru Angi's. The date and time they gave me was a Sunday. As I thought, Sequim Valley Electric doesn't book on Sundays. I told them what needed fixed and upgraded. The gal said she would have the owner or his worker come over and give me an estimate. Day came and it was Marty, the owner. I was showing him the fixtures, outlets, etc that needed repair plus a couple other things. Before I knew it I was flipping switches at the panel as he yelled what to do. Then he wanted to look at an outlet behind a large teak cabinet my dad had shipped home while he was in Vietnam. Marty grabbed ahold of one end and began scooting it. A crystal vase on too smashed to the floor. He said he needed an outlet and asked if I has a new one. I found one and he switched it for the old one. Then he needed to look at one outside. I had just sold my moms house and had all her belongings here. The outlet was behind a bunch of stuff and he seemed upset. I explained and moved everything out of the way. Then he came back in the house and pulled my sectional away from the wall to the middle of the room. He suddenly began to yell that no one would work under these conditions. He abruptly said he'd send me his bill and left. When I spoke to his office gal, I was told he was stressed out lately and over worked. She also said she would send me the bill and advised that I should hire a handyman. I was expecting an estimate so I could decide whether I could afford all the repairs. I didn't expect to be his helper, or for him to do any work at all. I had not hired him. I merely wanted an estimate. I've never hired an electrician before. I also didn't expect him or anyone else to start moving my furniture, handling a family vintage cabinet as though it came from IKEA, thus breaking something. Finally insulting the cramped condition of my home, adding that he'd send me a bill. His office gal tells me she has sent me the bill electronically. I've not seen a bill, nor do I feel I should pay a dime for how he handled himself. Office gal now says s
I am incurring late charges and will be sent to collections...my choice. When I mentioned that when the needed work (2 rooms with electricity and more) was completed as they promised, I'll pay the bill. She says she has labeled my file DO NOT SERVICE THIS ADDRESS. I'm appalled and have a label for this business: DO NOT USE THIS ELECTRICIAN. -
He originally did a space heater, like a month later his wife called and said my invoice was due… it had been paid she said she made a mistake. Martin had given an estimate to do lighting in my home, when we called him he ignored all the calls, because his wife made a mistake and wasnt professional enough to say he just didnt want the job, after giving a quote. Instead she sent me overwhelming prices, after giving an original estimate. I give them 0 stars, but you have to give one to write a review. And make sure you get the price of there service call, might be more that the work u need. Poor business practice

I engaged Sequim Valley Electric to replace a dryer plug and other minor work. On Monday, 11/4, their employee showed up and completed those tasks. When he was finished, he asked if I wanted him to clean up the debris from the wall installation or to place the switch plates and I told him I could do that. Later when I tried to place the plate on the side-by-side toggle wall switches I could not line up the screws, the two were not evenly lined up. I called the employee the next morning and explained the problem. (Here is, for me, where the wheels came off!) He advised me to take a screw driver and loosen the screws and push “really hard” to line them up…then, he said that if that did not work just turn off the electricity and do it. I did so reluctantly but it did not work.
I called the office and relayed what had occurred but that it was not urgent. The next day I received a call from the co-owner of the company. After listening to my explanation and my reasonable expectation that a quick stop by their employee could remedy the problem, she offered to reduce the “mandatory” service call from $150 to $125! I tried to talk and respond as politely as possible but expressed dismay that a business owner felt a service call was needed to correct a slight mistake by an employee. She disagreed and eventually hung up on me.
Such a simple, simple issue so easily resolved for good will. Another service corrected the problem in 2 minutes….no charge! -
After receiving my third review request I decided to do one. I can't speak on the type of work they do because I cancelled my appointment. My experience with the owner was negative. I called Sequim Valley Electric in the afternoon on a Tuesday and was scheduled for the next day with an arrival time from 9am to 11am for a minor issue. The night prior to my appointment I was able to find and fix my problem. In the morning I called to cancel my appointment around 8am and was told their policy does not allow refunds of the $99 deposit I had made because cancellations must be made two days or more prior to the appointment. I asked to have the owner call me because I wanted my money back. What I got was a bunch of gibberish in several TEXT messages. I was offered a credit for any future work. Then I was falsely told the technician was in route. Then finally, I received a copy of their policy that requires a two day cancellation notice. I understand and can accept a trip charge, if a trip was made. How is it possible to cancel an appointment made the day prior, two days in advance? In this case, there was no cost to them. In the end, it felt like extortion.

One big disappointment. A customer who schedules a site visit for a whole-home generator is seeking informed guidance, comparative insight across multiple manufacturers, and practical direction on installation and long-term support. Despite expressing interest in Generac, Kohler, and Cummins systems, the representative was unable to answer basic questions about what being an authorized dealer means or how dealer status affects warranties, service, or manufacturer support—issues central to evaluating a major purchase.
After hearing “I don’t know” one to many times, it became clear that no meaningful guidance would be provided, his comments became dismissive and gave the clear impression that he had little interest in earning a new customer. He stated, “You don’t seem happy with me—so tell me, and we won’t waste each other’s time.” I agreed, and we ended the visit. I was left feeling dismissed and not taken seriously as a prospective customer. The visit provided no useful information or professional value.
Later that same day, I met with another vendor who was able to clearly explain the available options, put the differences into proper perspective, and answer the very questions that could not be addressed during this visit. I felt comfortable moving forward with the second vendor and confident in making a significant investment with them—everything this experience was not. The whole thing was very unpleasant.
EDIT: You also stated that Martin never said “I don’t know.” That is not accurate. Those words were used more than once.
The beginning of your response makes my point, you immediately take on a very smug and defensive posture. That tone mirrors exactly what I experienced during the site visit and reinforces the concern I had that day. If this is how reasonable questions are handled publicly, it raises legitimate concerns about how issues might be handled after a customer has signed a contract and concerns arise.
To clarify, my questions were not about whether you are an authorized Generac dealer. That was never in dispute. My questions focused on how authorized dealer status affects warranty activation, startup, and long-term service when comparing Generac, Kohler, and Cummins options.
When I asked how warranty and support are handled if installing brands you are not authorized for, I did not receive a clear answer. That was the central issue. Suggesting that I “didn’t listen” avoids addressing the fact that those questions were never clearly answered.
Your claim that I was not listening is ridiculous. I asked the exact same questions to your competitor later that day and received direct, thorough answers without confusion or defensiveness.
There are generators on the market that many consider better built than Generac. I made it clear I wanted to evaluate multiple options. It was evident during the visit that the discussion was going to center on selling Generac regardless of my stated interest in other brands. That is not a consultation — that is a single-brand sales approach.
A customer performing due diligence on a significant investment deserves clarity, objectivity, and professional engagement. That was lacking. Oh and Costco is an authorized retailer for Kohler home generators. They may sell Kohler units, but you will need to arrange for a certified Kohler dealer to install the generator to ensure the warranty remains valid. They are not an authorized dealer in the sense the consumer needs. But thanks for making my point.
