About the business:

Vancouver Granite Works opened its doors for business in 1921 on the corner of 5th and Davis. In 1945, Mr. George Mielke came on board as manager. A few years later he purchased Vancouver Granite and began expanding the little building, adding a shop and a bathroom.

In the mid 1960's M.L. Fuerstenberg began working for George on a part time basis. M.L. had his own business traveling around Oregon and Washington doing cemetery lettering.

In 1974 M.L. and Bruce Fuerstenberg, father and son, began working together along with Gert, Bruce's mother, who was handling the bookkeeping and selling duties.

In 1987, Bruce and his wife Vicki purchased the business from M.L. and Gert. By 1993, they had outgrown the little building they were in and built their new shop on 18th Street. In 1995 their son Joey came into the business learning all aspects of the operation. In 2014 Joey purchased the business and became the 3rd generation owner.
