Regarding reading Michael Kraptz's (!) review of Heather's audacity to say, some plants needed more water and fertilizer... well, in my humble opinion, I think she's absolutely in the right and Mr. K can just go ahead and pull out his dying plants to plant vegetables. Good luck with that.

The Bruce Company recently completed a landscaping project in both our front and back yards. We replaced most of our plants/shrubs in front and back and put in a small brick paver patio in the back (where we plan to install a fire pit in the near future), along with a few smaller items as well. We are very happy with how everything turned out and are enjoying spending as much time in our new yard as we can before winter! Greg, Wayne and the whole crew were a pleasure to work with from start to finish and made it a great experience. We look forward to working with them again on future projects!

We were very satisfied with the Bruce Company and its staff on our project of many individual tasks. Their thoroughness and attention to detail was exemplary.

Great selection of perennials and annuals. Huge selection of trees. Houseplant section is also great.

We own a Veridian home. Bruce Company planted one tree- it died. They replanted the tree- it died. We then dug up the tree and found this.
According to the Arbor Day Foundation, balled and burlapped trees need to be removed from the cage and the burlap released. How is the tree supposed to grow if stuck in this ball?
Obviously fast planting and greed are the motivation of this company and not quality. Do NOT use their services. Veridian should STRONGLY reconsider using them as a contracted service. -
I've been buying houseplants from the Bruce Company for a few years. Today was the first time I asked for a discount on a damaged $20 hoya; and the employee said she would rather toss it than give me the opportunity to tell anyone that I "rescued a plant from the Bruce Company". How wasteful. Luckily there are other greenhouses that sell houseplants in the Madison area. Bye

Happy with the selection! I’ve been desperately searching for David Austin roses and was very pleased to find they carried them! They had 5ish varieties in stock when I visited in early July. I’m sure they had even more at the start of the season. The plants were very sizable and in great condition.

If you are covered by some kind of warranty from them, fair warning never to trust their folks who check the plants if they told way to give it more time to the plant or the tree before replacing it.
Their tree never showed any leaves this year after this last winter after it was plannted end of Summer 2024 and I kept hearing this year from their folks to just wait and give it more time, and when I pushed to just change it as it has never shown any leaves they responded that they don't have any documents about the tree not showing leaves and that warranty time was already passed. Very frustrating!! -
They have a good selection of plants but are pretty expensive. Unfortunately they don't stand by their product. I purchased $63 worth of bulbs last fall and none came up. I planted tulips i purchased online at the same time and same garden and they all came up. Bruce company was unwilling to give me even a partial credit for these defective bulbs.

Went to Bruce last week with my family and picked up a new pot with some of the awesome houseplants that were on sale. After a few days I noticed the pot was starting to crack and then the dirt started falling out. I repotted the plants and then brought the broken one in to ask someone why that would have happened. I don’t remember her name, but the worker helped me find a replacement even without a receipt. I was SO happy with my experience and will definitely be back for more!

I came here to look at the plants and I got 4 plants that I love! The gift shop was very unique. The staff was very pleasant.

We contracted with Bruce Company as part of our Veridian home build. They installed our yard late due to weather conditions, but proceeded during a rainstorm leaving our yard with washout on day 0. They then started to install the included irrigation system on the next day, but abandoned it in the middle of another rainstorm. However they never returned to finish the yard or to repair the damage caused during install in the next week. They did leave an information leaflet saying they had properly installed the sprinklers and they'd be uninstalling them in a month however.
I've reached out to them numerous times and to Veridian, but they still haven't resolved the issue despite the fact they themselves told us how crucial proper watering of the lawn was in these first weeks.
I can appreciate that they might be behind schedule, but the total lack of communication or care for our yard tells me I won't be ever be using their services again. They technically delivered on the install, but have no professional care for the outcome of my yard. I'm sure they'd be happy to charge me to repair their own sloppy work. -
Bruce Co is contracted by my HOA to do mowing and snow removal. This past winter they would throw down tons of salt then 30 minutes later plow it into the retention pond. They advertise as being a low salt company.
Today they were supposed to mow 2 feet on the edge of the road and our property. It was more like 4 feet and destroyed many prairie flowers. I would fire them if I could but they have a business relationship with the developer of the subdivision. He rules the HOA and will not allow outside bids. -
I had a landscaping job done about 6 years ago. The issue has been the trees/ steps. They were going loose at various points and locations. They came out a few times to re- glue. Then about 1.5 years ago I started to see some cracks and when one stone broke I was told they did not make the product any longer in that size. I came up with my own solution. Now all steps are crumbling. I had reached out with no response. Would definitely not recommend for hardscape jobs

I don't recommend them. I bought a house with Veridian, and they did the work in my garden. The plants were wilted, and the tree they planted was slanted. I asked them to correct it, and they told me it was my responsibility. Terrible.

I went to the Middleton store earlier today 7/31, to purchase some end of season annual plants since I read on your website site that they were 75% off. I entered the store approximately 20 minutes before closing time. I figured this should not be an issue since there probably were not a lot left to choose from since it is the end of July. However I was pleasantly surprised how many were marked as 70% off. A helpful clerk assisted me to fill my cart and then nicely informed me I needed to check out since the store was closing. I immediately followed her up to the check out where I encountered a very unpleasant clerk who scowled at me, apparently because she had to wait for me for a few extra minutes? At this point it was at most only one or two minutes past 6. Some of the flowers were not ringing up a discount so I asked her if I could check the signs to see why I got confused about the pricing. She said “No We are closed”in a very angry tone. I promptly left the store and will likely never shop there again after being treated so harshly. I encourage the manager of this store to train her on acceptable customer service behavior or make changes necessary to accommodate situations such as mine and to also consider not commingling plants that are not on sale right next to those that are. It was very misleading. Thanks for your attention to this review.

Working with The Bruce Company through Veridian has been a deeply frustrating experience. We’re now over a month past their initial lawn installation, and half our yard is still mud due to a washout that we warned them about the day after they laid seed—on the exact day a massive storm was forecasted. They’ve cited weather as a reason for delay, but they’re the ones who chose to seed during known, imminent storms. That decision alone set this entire project up for failure.
Because the washout still hasn’t been addressed, fertilization is now delayed, which puts the rest of our lawn at risk. We’ve received no timeline for when they’ll come fix it.
To make matters worse:
The temporary irrigation system they installed was broken and leaking for weeks
It missed entire areas of the yard, requiring manual watering (and higher water bills)
A tree was planted crooked, and they’re now trying to charge us to stake it
A dead plant was installed
Another plant was placed directly over the driveway where it will grow and block access
The carelessness and lack of follow-through have been incredibly disappointing, especially considering the cost. The photo here is worth 9k according to Veridian and Bruce company. -
Greg, Jeff, and the entire crew did an amazing job of design and execution. Looks incredible!

Veridian and Bruce (Heather) and I walked the landscaping. There were 7 plants against the house that Bruce replanted because the initial planting was poorly completed. Visually, you can see they are not surviving from a planting a year ago. I pulled up 2 dead plants because we wanted to plant vegetables. Heather had the audacity to say that the existing plants “needed fertilizer and water.” Yet the plants in the same bed, directly in front, are thriving. Then she disputed a washout saying the black drain hose was attached under “the fence and someone detached it.” There is not enough space to put a black hose under our fence. The gentleman with her seemed quite understanding but Heather would not see the truth.
This is not the first time she has been condescending and lacking empathy. Her customer service and delivery is poor. She is going to continue to taint your reputation over a few plants and a wash out that is clearly in question. It’s a shame that Bruce doesn’t value the homeowner. What I have discovered is that NO ONE - including other vendors and homeowners - believes in her skills and have shared similar stories of her poor CS and unfounded claims. I only asked for a few replacement plants that Bruce planted a year ago and a minor wash out repair. In fact, Bruce is coming back to fix an area of grass that was damaged by a construction power box. It would be so easy to fix the wash out. I will continue to share my opinion to anyone who will listen.
Hello Owner, your “canned” response to “contact my project manager at Veridian” is interesting since this has nothing to do with them but I expected nothing less after reading your responses to other reviews.
Also, your team came out again to reset a couple of boulders that had settled. They didn’t put them in the original spot and now the side of my house has a dent and is exposed. When asked why they didn’t replace it in the original position they said they “didn’t want to get too close to the siding.” Doesn’t that seem a little odd?
I wish Bruce Co had a little sincere empathy and do the right thing.
Each house is worth thousands to you.

Awful company. They planted the wrong tree in our yard. They did everything they could to kill our plants before we could move into our new home and save them. They planted them on a Thursday before a weekend drought and never watered them. By Monday all the leaves had fallen off of every plant. Photos are three days after planting. They wont replace them the following year if there is any growth at all despite it being from the roots so you lose years of growth the bushes had already. Endless other issues with them especially in regards to grading and pooling water. They seem to be in the business of actively trying to do the worst job possible and kill everything they install. Would never have gone with them if given the choice. Try Srb trees, K&A, midwest landscaping, all phenomenal. Anything but Bruce Co.

They did a great job pruning our 150 year old Oak tree and cleaned up everything after. Highly recommended.
