I was referred to Richard's Garden Center because I have been searching for a yuzu lime tree for over a year now. Yuzu is a unique citrus featured in japanese cuisine that my husband absolutely adores and unfortunately I could not find it in stock near me. As we are based in South Phoenix, I was only familiar with the nurseries in our immediate area. Thanks to a local gardening FB group, I was told of Richard's. After confirming availability via a morning phone call my husband and I made the 30min drive this afternoon and boy were we pleasantly surprised. I'm sure he was glad we did not bring the larger vehicle because if I could have, we would have gotten more than the 3 trees we ended up with. Max greeted us and helped us locate the elusive yuzu tree, as well as a calamansi, and jujube. Max, the picture of a bright, young professional, shared his knowledge and tips for growing our newly acquired trees as well as his experiences with both kumquats and figs. We walked away knowing that we plan to return later this year (fingers crossed there will be eversweet or ariana pomegranate, chojuro asian pear and pandan). Thank you Max!

Great selection I’ve never seen other places and reasonable prices

Customer relationship skills are completely lacking, highly unprofessional and I will no longer be shopping at a business that has such little regard for their dedicated customers.
I have purchased 14 plants and 1 tree at Richards as well as 5 bags of their 'mulch'. I make the trip which is a ways from my home to spend my money at their independent business. Recently I took home a plant that when I got it home had not been watered for some time. It was bone dry to the bottom of the 5 gal container. I soaked it for a day before planting it, even then the soil all fell away from the roots and it went into shock. Weeks later I took my receipt and photos to Richards to ask them about it, “Paul” insinuated I was confusing the ailing plant with a plant I had purchased somewhere else? It couldn't have been one of theirs. Decided to give the plant more time to 'recover'. Two months past, went back again, this time spoke with “Adam”, (receipt and photos) as the plants seem to be dying more instead of getting better or staying somewhat the same. His response was “Anyone could come in with photos of a plant they got anywhere....just because you have a receipt”.....Another employee chimed in to say “once you take it home, we aren't responsible for how you plant it”. I have purchased many plants from them, this is the only one I've had an issue with yet they refused to take any ownership for the situation. Placed blame squarely on their 'assuming' I didn't know what I was doing. Though everything else I have is doing well, which I showed them photos of my other plants. Then Adam stated “Well, we can't just give you a new plant”. We are talking a $40. plant. After having spend as much money as I have at their store they had zero interest in keeping me as a customer! Twice they tried to infer I was trying to 'pull something' over them? Customer relationship skills are completely lacking, highly unprofessional and I certainly will not be going back to Richards. Nor recommending them, also will make a point of sharing my experience with every person I can. -
So as a mother's day thing I take my wife to get plants for the year. This year we went to Richard's for plants and damn did they not disappoint. Not matter how big, small, or odd it seemed it totally met and massively exceeded our expectations. The guava tree is healthy and ready to throw fruit in under 9 months, the jalapeno peppers just made me throw up from a small taste, the yellow peppers are amazing, the cucumbers are the size of my arm, and the flowers are still growing after 5 months. We aren't done yet, the help was absolutely amazing and fun to deal with.
Tldr;Go here, buy what you want, learn to take care of & benefit from your labor. -
About 10 years ago I bought a dwarf tangelo tree for 50bucks.the salesperson told us how we would be better off with this dwarf tree (we asked to see the tangelo trees).its been 10 years of fertilizing etc never more than 6 pieces of fruit a year. I finally dug it up 2day only 3 feet tall!

Richard's Garden Center was a place of wonderment! I found that there were endless varieties of trees fruiting and non fruiting in different sizes. I loved that there was a good amount of shade from trees planted on property, this also provided some extra perspective as well. I really liked the banana trees. There were grapes, peach, plum, mulberry, apple, citrus, apricot, pear, fig, pomegranate, mango and more fruiting trees. They appeared to be in very good health. I took note of a pretty nice looking Mexican Sycamore and I will definitely be coming back for 2. They were a bit larger for my SUV. 😁
There is more info on their Facebook page and you can reach out by message with questions. Haley helped me out with all my questions and really was like a personal tour guide. I do not live so close to this nursery but I feel like the quality of product and people is an investment that will pay off in the long run. If your thinking of making the trip just do it, just leave me some Sycamore and Banana trees! -
Richard’s has a great variety of plants suited for Arizona and knowledge to go with. The bagged soil they produce/sale is so healthy I used in my raised beds. They are friendly, helpful and never judge a ‘brown thumb’ like me. Thanks Richard’s!

My husband and I met Abe at the Home Show. He came off very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. My husband decided to use Horticulture Frontiers and Abe came to our home. He told my husband that he would come up with a plan for the landscape and that he would contact my husband in 2 days. Since then he has ghosted my husband 2 times. 1 week has passed and still no response. I would not recommend this company.

Excellent from design to project completion!

Horticultural frontiers/Abe pulled a no show on me today 04/15/20.
Wasted my time. Definitely would NOT go with them! -
Very efficient with the work. Very professional and flexible with the job. Great follow up on the services done. Provides a lot of landscaping needs!

We met these guys at the home and garden show. The owner is a nice, eccentric man with AMAZING ideas for landscaping, what grows when and MINIMAL maintenance. We did both front and back yard. We added a grill and a bar and added a cement extension of our patio and pad for our shed. Their work was excellent. The crew is very polite and personable. We were supposed to get 2(or 3?) 5-gallon palms in the back, instead, we got 15 gallons because they got a deal on them and passed the savings on to us!
Great company, great people! -
If I could give a zero, I would. It’s been 5 years and we are still dealing with their shoddy work. The biggest issue, originally had six Irrigation zones, it was cut down to two, no prior communication. When the spaghetti lines were added, they were tapped in haphazardly! Have random plants/trees on each zone!
Most of the plants purchased died within the year or next and water pools where the pavers were laid. They are the worst in communicating; initial design was never updated even though it evolved before the work was started and it was never accurately detailed as to what costs what! Workers were not experienced and were left unsupervised; some of the crew were fired. Repeatedly tried to get them to call us back but to no avail! Would never recommend them nor even consider them to come back! -
We had a wonderful experience working with Kent and his team. They built us an outdoor kitchen and made my empty yard look amazing. Kent was friendly, attentive and was always available when we had questions. Definitely a positive experience. Thank you Kent and team for helping us make our party place complete!!!!

I highly recommend this company; they are wonderful to work with! Abe and Kent do great work, from creative designs to the finished product. Kent has vast experience with desert plants, and selected interesting and beautiful ones for our yard. Abe has a professional and courteous team, who come to work when they say they will. Abe and Kent personally supervise their crew and really care about making the customer happy. Give them a call!

We would love it if Abe and Kent would come fix the outstanding irrigation problem they created nine years ago. They totally ignored our requests to fix the issue. We can only assume it’s too costly for them to make it right. An irrigation zone, such a lawn ‘sprinkler’ or a shrub ‘drip’ is the area connected to the same valve. During installation their employee mixed the spaghetti lines to where irrigation is impossible according to their irrigation design or the amount of water needed based on plant requirements. It’s a disappointment they left us hanging. I contemplated attending the Home Show, which is where we made contact, and personally asking them to come fix the problem but if they would not answer our calls then it’s left on their conscience.

Totally incompetent management. Overwork, over schedule and under support their employees. I am a disgruntled customer who has over and over again dealt with promises not kept.
