Miguel called ahead to let us know he was on his way and the approximate time of arrival. Removed the previous alarm devices and installed SST equipment. Tested every device. Linked the system to my ring doorbell and my touchpad keyless entry front door. Throughly went through the system with us, answered any questions we had. Great experience with the installation.

Like a lot of other reviews I'm seeing here, I was misled when my security system was set up. The security system came with my new home built by Pulte. When the techs came to set up the system, we were told that the first year would be free, and if we didn't enjoy the services at the end of the year, we could cancel. 1 year later we started getting billed, but when I tried to cancel, I was told I was on the hook for 2 more years and over $1k. This was absolutely not how the tech explained things at all. He very clearly made it sound like the 1 free year would be like a trial run without a commitment. I should have read through the contract more thoroughly, but his assurance that I could cancel if I didn’t feel like the system was worth it felt good enough for me at the time.

Update: I originally gave 1 star but they did offer me a reduced package for a slightly lower price. Still not pleased about the way it was sold to me, but I appreciate that they were at least willing to work with me a little bit.

I'm currently waiting to speak to a tech to fix an issue. It's been a week now and 3 calls to only be told I'd be contacted within 24 hours, to me being put a queue and would be contacted when my name comes up, to...making it a priority I'd be called back. I feel now they are suggesting they want a tech to come to my house, want a $190 service fee plus labor. I was told this could be handled over the phone which it should, it's a very simple issue. It does not require a tech to come to my house. I'll be contacting Woodside Homes who contracted this unprofessional company and perhaps tell them stop playing their childish lying games and follow through with a consumer. I'd never use this company moving forward let alone buy a home equipped with this companies devices.

We were not looking to buy a home security system and never wanted a security contract. SST and our home builder a business agreeement. We were contacted by SST about their services. We explicitly told the SST sales agent that we never wanted a security system or contract this from the very beginning. He assured us that we would not be obligated to sign a contract. He said SST and our Home Builder included the package called the "White Glove service" with our home but were not obligated to sign a service agreement. We agreed and scheduled the installation since it came with the home. We reiterated to our sales agent we did NOT want a contract and he said whenever we decided to activate the service we could do so at a latter time. They installed the system and asked us to sign off on the work order for it. A month later we received the first bill for a contract which was 3 years. We call customer service and explain we never wanted a contract and no one said anything about signing a contract. The customer service agent was rude and said we signed the contract and that was that. They did not want to listen to the fact that we never wanted the contract to begin with. The customer sale agent said it clearly said in the contract that we had a 30 day grace period in which to cancel the contract. And sure enough it was in there but our original sales agent never told about this. Now granted that I take some blame for having signed paper work without reading it. But if I was told that a contract would be provided for me to sign no the day of installation, I would have not signed it. I thought I was signing off on the hardware installation being completed. And even the technician did not mention that what I was signing off on was a security contract. And the cancellation fee is the entire contract amount for all 3 years. We are extremely disappointed for how we were treated and now are on the hook for 3 years to pay for a security system we never wanted in the first place. This is a dishonest business practice. It perhaps shows that this company cannot rely on the quality and value of its service to retain customers. Also the original sale agent we worked with no longer works at SST. We reached out to him before he left and he said he would talk to his manager about it and nothing happened. So don't make the same mistake I made.

4 hours late - didn’t bring enough dimmer switches. We have 3 way switches for our kitchen lights. The ones Miguel did install, he wired wrong. Our LED lights aren’t even dimmable so they’re buzzing. And the other 3 way switches don’t work at all now because the dimmers are not hooked up and others aren’t wired correctly. Took him 3 hours to put in 3 switches….wrong.

Tried to link my front door lock to the wrong app for 20+ minutes.

    I’d give 0 stars if I could.

    Update:

Oh boy... I'm still finding new problems. I can't even give them two stars at this point...

    -----------------------

I didn’t have a great experience with SST—I ended up doing a lot of their work myself.

SST was referred to me for complete home cabling project during a walls-and-ceilings-down remodel—almost a new build. The specs included about 20 data drops, 6 coax drops, several conduits, a 7.1 sound system, plus a floor rack, a Yamaha receiver, a doorbell camera and a few other things.

The prewiring was done in one day with a big crew. However, they left a bunch of cables coiled on my wiring closet floor. Later, I had to sort the cables, wrap them with plastic for protection from drywallers, and hang them in the closet. SST should have taken better care of them. Also, SST didn’t finish routing the conduit and cable for my demarcation point for Cox cable and internet. I ended up doing that myself, too.

The real problems began when the trim out (finish) wiring started. For the initial work, they sent a single tech who didn’t finish all the wall plates. When the rack and equipment arrived, SST sent a couple of techs but they left things marginally operational, yet incomplete. It took another visit to wrap it up.

A week later, a subwoofer cable started grounding out and buzzing, so I wheeled out my rack to take a look. I realized then I should have paid better attention during the installation. I found the subwoofer cable was grounding against the rack and cables were randomly bundled and poorly routed, forcing the back panel of the rack to bulge.

The rack mount power strip was inadequate (only 8 receptacles) which they addressed by using a power splitting cable and running power cords directly into the uninterruptible power supply. My Ring doorbell was not installed correctly and the coax and Ethernet cables on the front were such a mess, the door of the rack barely closed.

Something needed to be done, so I spent hours rerouting cables, fixing the Ring doorbell and re-configuring the coax patch panel. I bought and installed a higher capacity power strip. I needed to address the messy Ethernet cabling, so I bought a keystone style Ethernet patch panel and paid SST to come out and change it. Once the tech left, I discovered their cabling wasn’t labeled correctly, which is also something I paid for.

In summary, I paid over $16,000 for a mediocre job. The system design was flawed with an inadequate power strip and punch down Ethernet patch panel, which I should have noticed up front. The final installation process took two weeks and was done by several different techs who apparently didn’t talk to each other. Lastly, their service department didn’t follow up on commitments. Fortunately, I had enough technical experience to notice all these issues and fix most of them myself.

Was SST terrible? Not really, but based on the cost and their promises, I expected a quality job.

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL company. I should have known when I called and they didn't seem to know what they were doing. I was quoted $180 for a service call to connect equipment that was never connected when installed. Tech came out, did the same things I had previously tried. Was not able to connect and charged me $10 more than quoted. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Now I have to pay additional money to Cox for their wireless extenders. What a waste of money and VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

We hired SST to install camera's all the way around our house. When the salesman came out we went over location of camera's. When it came time for the installation that was a whole different thing installers say we can't install 4 of our cameras where the salesman said we could. I think the installers just wanted an easy install not work for the $8000 we paid to have the job done the way it was sold.

Now for the quality of our cameras we were told by the salesman we would be able to talk and hear through our cameras. We are not able to do this we called and told them about this issue someone came out and tried getting this resolved but was unable. We have friends that have bought camera systems for 1/4th of the price that have better picture sound & can talk through them clearly. DO NOT USE SST there a big company with no customer service!
