Buyer beware. First red flag: they were available immediately while every other reputable chimney sweep was booked into spring. Second red flag: their price was significantly cheaper. Availability plus cheap usually isn’t a win and in this case it was exactly what you’d expect. They never once got on the roof to inspect the upper portion of the chimney. They never swept or cleaned the actual chimney at all. They came inside with a shop vac and vacuumed out an already clean fireplace and called it a day. When I questioned the lack of a real inspection or sweep, I was told it was “as clean as it’s gonna get.” It absolutely was not. Then came the upsell. They pointed out small open gaps in the brick inside the firebox and told me these were a fire hazard that needed to be sealed with a metal plate. I was convinced and paid $150 for the “repair.” Huge mistake. First fire of the season, the fireplace smoked heavily and barely burned, it felt smothered. Opening the doors to increase oxygen was the only way the smoke would clear. After having actual professionals evaluate the situation, the truth came out. Those “open gaps” were intentional and part of the fireplace’s design for smoke relief and combustion air intake. These guys sealed off a required component of the system, creating the problem themselves and potentially making the fireplace unsafe. Now I’m paying to undo a completely unnecessary “repair.” I can’t say whether this company is crooked or just wildly incompetent, but either way they are not qualified to clean chimneys or work on fireplaces. Ignorance can be just as dangerous as dishonesty when it comes to fire safety. Learn from my experience. Do not hire them.
