Construction Company reviews in Berkeley, California

Erol is an artistic genius, a very unique talent who can visualize the ultimate result and also manage the fine details. He is intensely perfectionistic in the best possible way. He took our vague idea and transformed our entire property, front and back, into a magical space. There were so many decisions along the way, big and small where I now, after some months, appreciate how right Erol was in his decisions and suggestions. He has a hard-working, dedicated team who have been with him for many years. They are very skilled and took a great deal of care in keeping things clean and cared for as the work went along. Working with Erol and his team was a very satisfying experience in good design, good work, with people who care about their product.

Craftsmen and artists of the northern Berkeley style, and it’s all word of mouth.

Excellent craftsmanship, on time and on budget for major project of ours, experienced and completely wonderful crew, great environmental design. Bravo

Erol and his team recently completed work that was outstanding in every way: they did an exceptional job building a deck, stone patio stone stairs, fence, paths and landscaping. They also installed a watering system and path lighting. Neighbors and friends continually are asking for his contact information because the transformation of my sloped yard is amazing. In the new garden with deck and beautiful stonework, my adult kids now love to create outdoor feasts and hang out with their friends. I love the beautiful path on the side with a meandering walkway and wood gate entrance. My front yard and back yard have both drought resistant areas and bounty of edible plantings including olive trees , lemon, pomegranate, fig and apple along with lavender and areas with other lush plantings as ferns and maple trees. . His design allowed us to have a number of zones where we could spend time during COVID-19 and never grow tired of the space. . Throughout the work, he was patient, delivered everything on time, and the wood work, stone work and planting design are beautiful. He was very responsive to what I envisioned and gently provided multiple options to consider during the planning process. I highly recommend Erol and his team!

North Berkeley Design & Construction completely changed my family's life. We moved into a home that didn't have a yard, but it had a carport, large deck and cement patio. Erol came to our home for a consult, and our jaws dropped about three minutes later when his on-the-fly creative vision of our space described something we never thought was possible; so much more than a yard. We signed right away and the crew began immediately. They are conscientious and hardworking craftsman, who were here everyday. We have had a lot of work done on our places and have never experienced a group that is so professional, talented and kind. The job was done on time and on budget, and it is incredibly gorgeous. We use the space every singe day and we cannot believe how amazing it is. North Berkeley Design & Construction maximized our property in a way that still blows our minds. Our biggest take-aways for the experience are awe for Erol's vision and talent, and the speed and professionalism of everyone. We were sad to see them go! (When does that happen??)

Erol and his team worked with us to deliver a transformative new addition to our outdoor living space. From day 1 - Erol was great to work with. He brainstormed ideas for the design, provided great insights into the design and construction process, and provided a clear bid. Once we got into the project, he helped to guide the design process even further, recommending ideas that ultimately made the final design simply outstanding. He was super easy to work with throughout the entire process - communicating clearly, setting and meeting expectations, and ultimately delivering an outstanding built result. Additionally, his crew is top notch and was super mindful throughout the building process. For my next outdoor project I will turn to Erol, 100%.

Erol is an artist with great vision. He is also an excellent businessman who is accountable and reliable. Erol and his crew are wonderful people to work with and to have on your property.
They have transformed our surroundings into an amazing area. From retaining walls to arbors and plant and tree selection - we now have a drought tolerant upgraded property that fits the architecture and location of our home.
My only hesitation posting this review is that he will be so busy that I will have trouble booking him in the future...

We worked with North Berkeley Design & Construction to build a rooftop garden/deck, and came out with a vision expertly expressed and the space transformed. Erol is at once excellent with design, planning, and execution, and accommodated scope changes on our side with precise schedule/budget revision. His team was remarkably professional with top-notch craftsmanship, with multiple neighbors commenting on both aspect. We couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you!!

My wife and I recently hired North Berkeley Design & Construction, Inc. (Erol Yildiz, principal) to design and build a custom wood fence and we couldn't be more impressed with their work. From start to finish, their attention to detail was exceptional. The design they created was sleek, clean, and exactly what we envisioned, blending perfectly with the style of our house.

Since the fence was completed, we have received numerous compliments about how beautiful and well-designed it is. It has truly enhanced the look of our home and property.

As for the quality of the build, we couldn’t be happier. The fence is solid, sturdy, and built to last, showing a level of craftsmanship that is hard to come by. It’s more than just a fence; it’s a work of art that adds both privacy and style.

We highly recommend North Berkeley Design and Construction Inc. for anyone looking for exceptional design, high-end construction detail, and excellent customer service and look forward to working with Erol and his crew again on other projects we are planning.

North Berkeley Design and Construction (NBDC) did an outstanding job transforming our basement into a comfortable living space. Their attention to detail is impeccable, ensuring that every aspect of the project was completed to the highest standards. The team uses only the best materials, which is reflected in the quality and durability of the final results. The pricing is fair, offering excellent value for the exceptional craftsmanship they deliver.
The owner is a fantastic person who clearly cares deeply about the work, taking care to design everything with our needs in mind, and adding a personal touch that makes the results even better. Our basement is now gorgeous, and I would not hesitate to hire them again for future projects.

This is the second project I have done with Erol and his team and I continue to be impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of their approach. I value high quality work, good communication and professionalism which were all on display. The pricing was fair and the crew was skilled, punctual and tidy. In addition, Erol has a great eye for design and I was very comfortable going with his suggestions. Finally, I want to thank the entire North Berkeley Design & Construction team for their professionalism in dealing with a challenging neighbor that existed through no fault of their making. They were very capable of managing the entire situation and ensuring cooler heads prevailed and that all parties were satisfied.

Erol and his team transformed our dilapidated back deck into a relaxing oasis. He listened our needs and desired use of the space and made our vision come to life! Several neighbors commented on how thorough his team is and Erol’s attention to detail paid off. Our new backyard has changed how we feel in our house and we feel so lucky to have found him! Can’t wait to work with him and his team again on future projects.

Erol and his team replaced our shade cloth at Berkeley Horticultural Nursery. They replaced 37 different panels with precision and detail. His team was quick, clean and aware of the customers shopping around the construction zone. This was not an easy job, but i was put at ease with the plan and execution. I would definitely use North Berkeley Design and Construction again.

Fantastic work! Erol was reliable, professional, and easy to work with. The fence is solid, beautiful, and exactly what we wanted. He handled our tricky grade and tied it seamlessly into the existing retaining wall. Highly recommend!

We have the highest praise for North Berkeley Design. After having a frustrating and disappointing experience with our previous contractor, we decided to find someone local to complete our next project. We were impressed by the initial consultation where we shared our ideas and Erol took the time to round out our visions. The contract was thorough and clear. Erol was on site almost if not daily to check on the progress and quality of work being done. He explained everything in detail and completed the project quickly. Erol and his team were respectful and kept the work site tidy. We began with the backyard and kept adding on projects including the front yard because we were so impressed with their work. We are now outside daily and are so glad we trusted North Berkeley Design. We highly recommend them and plan on hiring them again in the future. We have actually had people in the neighborhood ring our doorbell to ask who completed our front porch and landscaping.

Our space was fully transformed into a modern, lush outdoor gathering space thanks to Erol and his team! They impressed us from the beginning, with their thoughtfulness in communication and dedication to our project. We hired Erol to design and renovate the backyard of our North Berkeley home; the yard was fully gutted to create a space to truly live outdoors: areas of concrete for our son to play, beautiful trees, native plants throughout, and new fencing for the property. Erol and his team also built and installed a large front gate - the work is so beautiful, and we get many compliments on the gate and entire yard. I plan to hire Erol again for future projects. Highly recommend his business - they are extremely talented, professional, and truly care about the work they do.

Erol and his team greatly exceeded our expectations for our driveway gate. Erol truly cares about perfecting his craft - it's clear he's a skilled designer and managed the work to completion flawlessly.

He and his team managed the process end to end, and required no intervention from us other than a few simple decisions on color options that Erol thought through. On top of all of that, they completed the project within project and early!

We get so many compliments on our gate and look forward to working with Erol again in the future. 11/10 do recommend this Berkeley landscape construction and design company!

My interior design firm had the pleasure of partnering with Berkeley Craftsmen on a 5,000 square foot renovation - not only did they deliver on time and on budget, but they were a joy to work with! The team expertly project-managed every phase of the project with transparency and levity. True to their namesake, their craftsmanship is unparalleled - for the primary bathroom, when it looked like the grout lines weren't going to line up from the walls to the ceiling, they took 1/8" off of every ceiling tile and didn't charge uncharge the client for the additional work! The clients have been so satisfied that the scope continues to expand. We are now working on an ADU in the back of the house!

They built me the studio I had always wanted right in my backyard. Mark Butler and his crew were truly amazing and we came in on target and on time. I got my house earthquake retrofitted and my basement made more spacious at the same time--due to concrete work we needed to make a foundation for my new studio. This this was a comprehensive multi-step project and Mark lead this extremely well from beginning to end.

They help me save tons of money by connecting me to an architect that was in her 70s and new exactly what we needed to draw and didn't have any need to impress her genious upon the situation. She simply, carefully matched the style of architecture that already existed in my home, something that I had said that's very important to me, and wisely said if you're looking for any answers or details that aren't in the drawings, just look at the original home and they will be there.

That honestly saved me $10K minimum and I didn't have to suppress any other architects that wanted to make a buck or make a statement at my expense. That was really truly the best advice. Then Mark thoughtfully carried out all of our plans.

I honestly cannot recommend these people enough--they are superb, honest good folks make really great spaces.

We can’t say enough good things about Berkeley Craftsmen. They’ve done three projects for us over the past four years; the most recent one was a kitchen remodel in spring 2018. We’re still in awe over how beautiful our new kitchen looks and how functional it is. To say it exceeds our expectations is an understatement. We can’t thank Berkeley Craftsmen enough. They are extremely careful, conscientious, organized, meticulous with details and friendly as well. There isn’t another contractor we would want to work with. Over the years, Mark Butler has given us a tremendous amount of time, help and advice as we’ve worked thru one issue after another stabilizing and updating our 1940 house in El Cerrito. We couldn’t have done it — doors, windows, kitchen, bathrooms, plumbing, wiring, floors, painting, stucco work, insulation & cottage repairs — without his steadfast help, encouragement, support and great advice. They get five stars from us.

We are new homeowners and hired Berkeley Craftsmen to do the first set of big projects on our house and had a fantastic experience. They replaced a deck, installed fencing, removed an internal chimney that affected 3 levels of the house including our tenant’s unit on the first level, and completed a number of smaller interior projects (e.g., closed off some walls to create a bonus room, installed an attic stairway and storage space, refinished wood flooring).

Throughout the entire process, the head contractors, the foreman, and all the crew were incredibly professional and friendly to work with. The first couple weeks of the project were critical, as we wanted major work related to the chimney removal to be completed during the limited time we vacated the property and we also wanted to limit the time our tenant’s unit was affected. Berkeley Craftsman was right on track and stuck to schedule so that our living arrangement for those couple weeks was minimally affected. For the remainder of the project while we were living on the premise, they were very respectful and did the best they could to clean things up at the end of the day so that our space was usable. They were extra careful since they knew we had a toddler at home. In a few years, we hope to redo our kitchen and add another bathroom, and we definitely plan to reach out to Berkeley Craftsmen to do that work.
