Landscaping reviews in Encinitas, California

We highly recommend Jon at Homegrown Bounty Gardens. We worked with him about a year ago to change our irrigation over to netafim drip and he installed all of our new landscaping for us. Jon is responsive, on time, and does quality work. I know if we ever had an issue, I could text or call him and he would come out right away. He is trustworthy and so nice to work with. He also builds garden beds which we may be needing soon. Thanks Jon!

Jon designed and, with his crew, built two raised garden beds for us, replaced about 85% of our existing landscaping with California natives, and installed a new drip irrigation system to keep it all alive. Jon is very kind, thoughtful, and creative and was responsive, reliable, and communicative throughout the job; his crew is very friendly and dedicated. Jon shared our enthusiasm for habitat creation, water conservation, and cost consciousness and worked with us to pick out the right plants, including a lot of shade tolerant natives. We've never felt like a faceless customer to Jon--it's clear that he takes pride in his work and in the relationships he is building.

We called Jon in because we wanted to install a drip system in an existing garden in our backyard, and add a timer to the existing drip system in our front yard. The work from him, and his team, was fantastic! He was amazing to work with! He listened to what we wanted to do, made suggested changes that he thought would work better, and had it all done in just a few days. His recommended changes saved us money. Our existing backyard space went from OK to plants that are thriving. I cannot recommend him highly enough!

We reached out to Homegrown Bounty Landscapes to redo our landscape and fix our irrigation. From the initial consult to the design and execution, they were a great team to work with. They have an eye for detail and we loved their recommendations on plants and color palette for a low-maintenance, waterwise landscape. Big thank you to Jon, Morgan, and their crew!

Jon and his team did a wonderful job refreshing our tired, 24-year-old gardens. Jon took the time to analyze the growing conditions and limitations for each location and provide us with a large palette of beautiful eco friendly plants and trees that would be the most successful. His team was very conscientious, knowledgeable, detail oriented and left the work site clean at the end of each day. I highly recommend Homegrown Bounty Landscapes and wouldn’t hesitate to call them again.

After relocating from New York City to Encinitas, buying a house with a sweet sized garden but the worst water guzzlers around and so badly planned, I starting searching for a landscape designer who could help me remove the lawn ad all the other thirsty plants, I found Jon Kardos. Jon and I planned a garden including major irrigation, a water tank, lawn removal, swale and stone riverbed construction to catch and save all rain water and planting a California native garden! It was a match made in heaven! We established a working/teaching relationship that was super easy, super informative and the end result is the garden of my dreams! As the garden grows, now 1 year later, I remain excited as I see what happens when you plan and plant a garden! Thank you Jon!

We hired Jon with Homegrown Bounty to finish the last section of our retaining wall/system and also install some Netafim irrigation, and he did a great job! He was responsive and professional, communicated well, and the retaining wall looks beautiful, we're thrilled with how it turned out.

We couldn’t be happier with the incredible transformation Homegrown Bounty Landscaping brought to our front yard! What was once an overgrown space full of invasive plants has now become a lush, colorful tropical landscape filled with native, low-water plants that perfectly complement the ecosystem.
Morgan and Jon were exceptional throughout the entire process. They listened carefully to our creative vision, asked thoughtful questions, and then delivered results that went above and beyond what we imagined. From removing stubborn ivy and disintegrated railroad ties to planting vibrant, sustainable greenery, their dedication and attention to detail were evident every step of the way.
The entire project team was kind, professional, and clearly passionate about their craft. It’s rare to find a company that combines such talent, care, and expertise. Thanks to Homegrown Bounty Landscaping, we now have a garden that not only enhances the beauty of our home but also supports the local environment. We couldn’t recommend them more highly! -
Easy to talk to and willing to give advice. One day.. when i save enough money. I will definitely get a project done with them.

Very unprofessional team. I found empty beer cans and cigarette butts after my maintenance service throughout my yard. Very disappointed! Will not use again.
Hedges look nice though! -
Ryan and his team are some of the most knowledgeable, professional, talented and humble landscaping design companies in S.D. They do some of the best work I have ever seen and are always ready to answer questions. Highly recommend!

FWL was on a short list of bidders when we considered a backyard overhaul a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, we had to put the project on hold, and in the interim did a couple of smaller projects with low-budget bidders. Having felt the sting of those decisions (poor finish work and blown budgets), we went back to Ryan and the team at FWL when we were finally ready to do the big backyard project.
And I cannot tell you how happy I am we got to work with this crew. The project was big in scope and our budget was finite, but Ryan and the team worked with us to get it done with the design and trim details they are well known for, but still working with what we had to spend.
What I am most grateful for is Ryan and his team's thoughtful take on the project, and guidance whenever we had to make a critical decision. He knows what really matters, and he never compromises on finish. He even went out of his way to advocate for improved design details with a sub-contractor we had installing a rainwater catchment system at the same time.
At the end of the day, we have the backyard of our dreams, and he it did all on budget, on time and for that we are forever grateful that FWL worked with us. -
I'm a repeat customer of Falling Waters. They designed my front and backyards, and we most recently used them for the conceptual layout for our future space after adding an ADU and JADU. I appreciated working with Falling Waters again. Their organic and environmentally sensitive design approach continues to delight me. Our designer was especially thoughtful and creative as we figured out how to make a small, hilly yard with existing hardscape work for three separate living units. The team is not only super smart but also great listeners.

We hired Falling Waters for a small front yard project because we really liked their design aesthetic, and they definitely delivered on that front. The finished space looks great and captures the style we were hoping for.
Connor and his team were friendly, responsive, and worked swiftly. The whole team has a great eye for design. Along the way, though, we learned a few things that might help others get the best outcome:
Double-Check the Details: Even with walkthroughs and written notes, items can be missed in the process, leading to unexpected adjustments. In hindsight, I suggest confirming key details multiple times, especially as changes are made along the way.
Plan for the Finish: Toward the end of the project, the team gets ready to move on, which is understandable with busy schedules. As a result, it can lead some finishing touches (like sprinkler issues and care instructions for new plants) slip through in hand-off. Take the time to identify issues early, get questions answered and raise concerns in order to give their team a chance to address appropriately.
Overall, we're really happy with the look and feel of the yard. It reflects the strong design vision that Falling Waters is known for. If you're working with them, just stay proactive on the details and make sure there's time built in to review everything thoroughly at the end. With that, you'll likely end up with something you'll love. -
I knew Ryan through a work relationship we shared several years ago and followed falling waters on social media. I always loved their work and fell in love with a project they were doing locally. My wife and I are finally ready to completely overhaul our yard and create an awesome space and choose Falling Waters to design it. We could not be more impressed and happy with the plans Miz and Connor came up with! And very fair and reasonable pricing too! They covered every detail and brought top level professionalism to our relatively small project, treating it like it was one of their big projects! So happy with our choice to work with them!

Hired falling waters to do my entry way. Initially they seemed chafed by limiting them to a $20k budget which I thought was sufficient for adding rocks to few hundred square feet of planted area. Immediately after I had issues with the drip system they installed. Opening up the filter it was clearly plugged with dirt. Rather than addressing the issue they made spurious claims that my valves which have been working for years are too low. It was easier for me to back flush and unclog the system myself which was obviously plugged with dirt from construction. I don't feel like they stood by their work at all. At least than a year out I need follow up work.

Falling Waters did an amazing job on our yard. We approached them with a few vague ideas for our front and back yard, and they created a perfect yard for our home. We loved working with Connor. He listened to our ideas, presented a thoughtful plan, and adhered to our budget. He and his crew were always professional. We absolutely love our new peaceful sanctuary and would highly recommend this company for beautiful landscaping. They were outstanding to work with.

We hired Falling Waters in 2022 to redesign both our front and back yards. We are thrilled with the results, which far exceeded our expectations. Ryan was so easy to work with, knowledgeable, and gave us many tips on what to think about throughout the process. Falling Waters also created a plant book, incorporating xeriscape species and habitat for pollinators. The finished product is cohesive, contemporary, and lends itself to indoor/outdoor living. We use every square inch of our yards and love entertaining friends and family. Thank you, Ryan and the whole Falling Waters crew!

EA overhauled my backyard and most of front yard with excellent craftsmanship, vision, and thought towards meeting my "must haves" while taking into account my lot's non-standard dimensions, soil conditions, and the budget. Highly recommend.

Josh, Kevin, and the Ecology Artisan team are extremely unprofessional once your project is completed, and you have paid. I need very little follow-up on a project they did 2 years ago, and no one will respond. I would not recommend Ecology to anyone if you expect any kind of after sales service. I am truly disappointed. Please feel free to contact me about their lack of service.
