West Hills Masonry removed and hauled away old concrete, removed multiple and difficult roots that had undermined the previous patio, prepared paver foundation with layer of gravel and layer of sand, installed approximately 800 square feet of pavers according to plan.

Homeowners, like myself, are a suspicious bunch and we do not readily trust unknown contractors working on our property. We need them because we do not have the skills that they do, but we are cautious and over-protective.

However, over the 6 days that the West Hills Masonry crew was working around the house, we became more and more confident of the crew as they demonstrated trustworthiness. Because they did things - little things every day - that earned our trust.

Aside from the skill that the crew demonstrated, they were concerned about all of the little things that we had not thought about. A good example is, as the crew was preparing to leave, the lead installer spent a better part of an hour rinsing windows and the exterior of the house, and washing all the plants in the yard (the installation process creates a lot of dust). And I thought that was my responsibility.

The work was done with exactness and skill by a team that demonstrated that quality was their primary objective.

And, on top of all that, West Hills Masonry's bid was the best of the three bids we had received.

My summary of working with West Hills Masonry:
- Impressive at first meeting.
- Promised a 2 week project (it took 9+ months to finish and there are MAJOR defects).
- Project manager rarely on site- many things we had discussed didn’t get passed along to the guys actually working on-site.
- Project manager had great communication at start. As more errors occurred, communication was less effective.
- Project manager was a no show to one meeting without notice.
- Poured cement for a patio with a 12 inch slope (who has EVER asked for a slanted patio?!?!)
- Coerced us into paying more money to fix the problem of the slope.
- Final product did not look like our designs in many important ways
- 5 of the drip lines that were in the original plan were forgotten and never installed.
- One of the drip lines installed was never connected properly and could give us slab leak issues in the future.
- Bench seat is taller than standard height making it uncomfortable for adults to use.
- Project manager kept saying the project was finished and asking for the final check, though the project still wasn’t done. They would take weeks to a month to fix an issue, and come back asking for the check, when there were still active issues.

Though they were impressive upon first meeting and claimed they wanted us to be 100% satisfied, this was obviously not the case. Their website claims, “We just want to do things right by our customers. We wouldn't have it any other way than the right way of doing things!” and that is obviously a blatant lie! I would strongly urge customers to take their business elsewhere as to avoid the mishaps, stresses, and abuse we have gone through. If you do decide to use this company, please make sure you have all details- even minute ones- laid out in writing (none of the “we’ll work with you as we go” nonsense), protect yourself by keeping a detailed log of all interactions with the company for when issues arise, and make sure you set a firm finish date, and they are willing to pay you for loss of use if they are running late.

We just had our backyard done and Carlos and his team were very professional through out the entire process. We are very detail oriented and this may irritate some contractors but Carlos was very patient and responsive.

We could have gone a cheaper route, but this was well worth the investment. We have been recommending them to our neighbors and friends and will continue to do so.

They did a great job. The new retaining walls, outdoor fire pit, and garden beds have completely transformed our outdoor space. They listened to what we wanted and made it even better than we imagined.

I found West Hills Masonry on Yelp when I did a search and their office happen to be in Brea so it was local a definite plus when your contractor is close. As with any review sites a 5 star rating get immediate attention. He was the first contractor that I called and got a quote. At the time I wasn't really prepared to ask the right questions or knew exactly what I wanted for my undeveloped back yard. When Bryan the owner came out he was on time, very professional and provided us with a quote based on what my budget was and provided a few suggestions on how to plan out the development. He was very willing to answer any questions. After a few other quotes with contractors from yelp and angie's list I went with Bryan even though his quote was higher than some. I felt that he's a genuine guy, a good communicator, and very courteous individual, someone that I can trust to get the job done right.

Carlos was his project manager in charge of my back yard. He and his crew did a great job, informative about the process and answered all my questions when things came up. They worked well without much supervision.

West Hills did the whole package, paving, planters, sprinkers, grass, walls, and gates. They didn't disappoint. Even when the custom gate that was fabricated incorrectly based on what Bryan and I discussed he immediately own up to his mistake and took care of the issue immediately. That's customer service. I'm very happy with how the project turn out and would recommend them to anyone. Even caught the eyes of my neighbors. Thanks guys.

I highly recommend West Hills Masonry because the customer service was excellent, the price was reasonable, and the finished product was beautiful. I contacted Carlos through Yelp and he responded promptly and set up an appointment. My project was a small one, about 500 square feet for a walkway and porch. He brought a catalog of pavers and made suggestions. Because his estimate was lower than the previous company I had contacted, I requested an estimate to also do the driveway at the same time. We were so happy at the estimate that we added the driveway to the project. In order to decide the color of pavers, Carlos had 6 different pavers from two companies delivered to our house. We also drove by homes where he had installed similar pavers to see how they looked on a larger scale. The projects we saw were gorgeous and further convinced us that we had made the right choice in choosing West Hills Masonry. The installation was two weeks later. During this time Carlos promptly answered all my texts. He even answered messages after hours and on Sunday! He was responsive and easy to work with. Demolition and installation was amazingly quick. Carlos estimated 7 days, but because he was able to add on more workers, the project was completed in 3 days. The crew led by Angel was hardworking and worked rapidly. They did a very neat job. Neighbors driving or walking by commented on how beautiful a job it was and asked for the name of the company.

I found West Hills on Yelp and decided to have them come out and provide a quote for my backyard renovation. Jeff was very professional and courteous and after reviewing multiple offers my wife and I decided that he was the man for the job. We could not have made a better decision! Our project was a complete demo of the existing yard so we could add new pavers and landscaping throughout. The process went as smooth as I could have imagined and the foreman, Carlos, and his crew were incredible. They never complained when we made changes to the plan and provided updates every morning, even during a rain delay. Sometimes reviews can be misleading but this company has shown me that they are very deserving of their five star rating and I would highly recommend them to anyone with a backyard project!

This was our first experience with a major renovation. We found Carlos to be easy-going when he came to our property for the initial quote. We had a general concept of what we wanted at that time, but did not have every detail planned out from beginning to the end, so we found his recommendations helpful as we presented our ideas. Carlos was responsive throughout the project via messaging to address my questions and concerns and was able to accommodate a few changes to the initial plan. Our project was expected to take three weeks, but they were able to finish in about 4 weeks of work, excluding time off for the holidays and a few days of inclement weather.

The on-site crew was easy to work with, as I would inquire about the daily plan before they started their work and discuss any concerns I had regarding the previous day's work. They were good about tidying up on a daily basis. They did fix a few things I had concerns with, but overall their workmanship was excellent. We are extremely pleased with the final outcome and plan to use them again for future projects.

My Husband and I selected our stone and the retailer gave us a list of contractors they worked with. We selected West Hills and have been exceptionally pleased with their professionalism and excellent quality. Our house turned out better than we could have imagined. I have considered three separate contractors but we end up choosing West Hills Masonry. Carlos Gonzalez was very helpful and knowledagble about the work we want to do. I was concerned about the finish look when my wife wants to cut the brick in half to a square shape. Carlos gave me some advice and provided sample. He goes an extra step to provide customer service, which is great.

The workmanship is excellent. I ask them to give me different options at the round edge of the bricks and they listened. The work is on schedule 5 or 6 days a week. I can see the progress everyday.

Had a fantastic experience with Carlos (both of them...you'll figure it out) and West Hills Masonry. Our house needed a lot of work in the back. There was an unsightly brick platform and an odd fountain from previous owners. I wanted it all gone and replaced with pavers or cement. I took at least 4-5 quotes. The thing that set Carlos apart is that he communicated really well, handled himself professionally, and followed up in a non-pushy way. I've done quite a bit of remodeling over the last year and worked with a variety of contractors for different jobs, both small and large. What I've come to realize is that communication is critical. Too many contractors are awful communicators and can't stick to their proposed schedule. Even with this project, I had a few contractors promise me a quote within a few days and either never heard back or didn't get a quote for several weeks. Not Carlos and West Hills. They were on it from beginning to end and the back patio looks fantastic. I was super impressed. I'd happily refer West Hills to any friends or family and wish all my contractors went about their business like they did. Thanks!

I am a first year widow and I am so hurt by the mistreatment given by the West Hills Masonry owner and 1st Project Manager. We started our 2 ½ week project 12/5/16 and they finally finished 9/8/17. It took 257 extra days because they consistently broke promises and failed to show up.
We picked them after their fantastic “sales pitch.” We wanted the job done quickly and they promised we could use our hardscape patio before Christmas.
They forgot to include 5 drip lines, “mickey-moused” a drip system pillar that doesn’t match the others and does not look like it will last long. They poured cement so sloped that no furniture could be used on it without tipping over. We voiced our concerns prior to the pouring that the ground was not level and they said, “all those things will be taken care of.” What they meant was, they would coerce us into pay thousands more to achieve a usable patio.
Basic summary: 1st impression- great, 1st week- fine, then promises were broken, no shows, skill-level poor in several important big areas, forgetful.
The “family-owner business” owner was “not in touch” with what’s going on with his customers. He chose not to meet with us when we asked him to come out for the final conversation. The owner made an intimidating statement through email.
They flat out lie on their website: “Our award-winning service is your guarantee! Let us prove it… we won’t let you down.” Do not believe them. They personally let me down 70+ times! With a 257-day delay, they might have set a record.
