I worked with Building Efficiency and the owner David last year to bring my (new to me), 85 year old home up to today's efficiency standards. I had done a lot of research beforehand and had lots of questions/ideas/opinions on what I wanted to do.

This included going fully electric for heating/cooling with a heat pump, new central air ducting, replacing gas hot water heaters with heat pump water heaters and fully insulating the walls and attic.

David spent the time with me to go through all my options and various ideas. He didn't try to upsell me on the most expensive options and talked me through the pros/cons. Before all the work, when walking from downstairs to upstairs, I'd be hit with a wall of heat. Now, the temperature is stable and comfortable. Additionally, in the winter, various rooms would be cold and all the new insulation regulates the rooms perfectly now.

There is one room where it's still cold mainly because it's over an exposed tunnel area. He suggested to not insulate the floor due to the cost of drilling out all the stucco and repair. This was a good suggestion as the room isn't used very much and putting down carpets helps regulate the temperature. Plus, the blankets on the couch make it nice and snuggly without overheating.

He also worked with me to install my own chosen hot water heat pump that I bought over the internet. He looked at the specs and agreed that it'd fit my needs and it was installed perfectly.

I've had one minor issue with a leaking condensate line on the air handler but they are taking care of it without any fuss. Glad to see they stand behind their work.

I hired BE in 2022 to install a two ton heat pump system to replace an old Bryant furnace. David, Beto and Homero worked with me to also install some new duct work to make my living room more comfortable–as like many homes built mid century, my living room was originally more reliant on supplemental heating from the fireplace and that didn't really work well. The work took two days and I was walked through the steps beforehand. It's been working well and my home is more comfortable. (I have enjoyed having AC on certain days when SF has hit higher mercury.) In 2024 I had an on demand gas water heater replaced with a heat pump water heater and recirculation pumps and that has also been working well, giving me hot water much faster than I have had it in the past. (I used to have a bucket of water for plants waiting for the cold water to turn hot). I've also really appreciated responsive customer service during this maintenance period. I'd just say that the world of rebates and incentives can be confusing so just make sure that your contract is clear about what rebates, if any, are available for the job and how they will come to you. (This would apply for anyone you hire!) Good work BE!

Air Conditioning Champ came out for a commercial rooftop unit that was short cycling and they handled it with steady, clear communication. The tech walked me through what he was checking, including refrigerant pressures and electrical connections, then gave an estimate that matched the scope of work. I liked that the paperwork listed parts, labor, and expected downtime. Once the repair was done, he ran the unit under load, verified supply temps, and documented readings for our records. Their cleanup was tidy, and they kept the service area safe for staff. A few days later, they checked in and offered a simple plan for routine inspections without any pressure. It felt like working with a licensed contractor who takes accountability seriously and respects the customer’s schedule.

They installed our very large radiant heating and hot water system. They are professional and do exceptionally clean work. Service is on time and absolutely competent and nice to work with.

We've reached out to pacific radiant heat since there are very few vendors out here that work on radiant heat systems. There was a proposal they submitted for a repair. When we reached out and asked for clarification, Matt from their office was incredibly rude, didn't want to help. Basically dismissed us and said to forget about it. They may be radiant heat specialists, but they're incompetent when it comes to customer service.

Would highly recommend Pacific Radiant Heat. I am doing a complicated remodel in the Richmond and Matt was able to design the right system with different types of flooring. He is both very practical and flexible and was able to work well with architect and construction team. Five stars.

For background, I have a 100 year old heating system that wasn’t working in my new home. NO ONE would help us; I tried maybe 10 different providers. I was losing hope.

Pacific Radiant, however, immediately stepped up and provided an amazing team to diagnosis and solve our problem. Specifically, Matt was in close contact and ensured I was taken care of and was clear and communicative on pricing. Ricardo and his team went above and beyond when working in my home (including making sure our cats didn’t run out!), quickly fixing the problem, and paying attention to every small detail (such as hand cleaning everything that they worked on).

Our new house came with a fancy gas boiler, an indirect water heater, and a radiant heating system which require yearly maintenance. I spent hours and days looking for available experienced and highly qualified service and maintenance radiant heating contractors: there seem to be so very few of them in San Francisco, and they are all crazy busy! I finally found Matt and his team at Pacific Radiant Heat & Construction. I've worked with them for two years now and I could not be happier! Their honesty and professionalism is simply unmatched. Matt and team installed my $40k radiant floor several years ago. They were professional, polite, and service oriented. We contacted Pacific Radiant at a time when the weather was very cold in late January and we had no heat and limited hot water. Matt (the owner) was extremely responsive and very understanding of the situation we were dealing with each day and night. He went out of his way to make sure we were put on the top of his list despite other commitments he had made to other customers. He even went so far as to pre-order the equipment while we were away on the weekend. On Monday morning Matt and his crew showed up promptly with the equipment and his awesome and knowledgable men to take out the old system and install the new one despite some difficult challenges with venting the new system. He wanted to make sure we would be able to live comfortably ASAP. After a few days he sent his men back to fine tune the new system even further. We would highly recommend Pacific Radiant for all your heating, hot water and plumbing needs!!

I highly recommend Pacific Radiant. Last fall they installed new radiators and a reconfigured our hw system to provide heat and hw much more efficiently than the prior set up. Matt, Ricardo and their team were incredibly diligent and responsive. It took some time and many return visits, but they were committed to making sure we were satisfied with the system's functioning. We now get even, consistent heat and hot water. Matt still responds when I text random plumbing questions to him. In my experience these are good guys who know what they are doing and care about their customers.

Our hot water and in-floor heating went out in January. We called several contractors, and Pacific Radiant was by far the most responsive. Recognizing that our situation was urgent Matt (the owner) took the time to explain our options, and moved us to the front of the line for repairs. His outstanding crew made some repairs which gave us hot water for a couple of days, but they advised us that we would probably need to replace the boiler which we did. They came back several times to fine-tune the new system, which has worked perfectly ever since. Highly recommended.

What can I say? When my radiant heat boiler stopped working, a service person came in, looked at it, and asked, "When was the last time this was serviced?" Uh...it needs to be serviced? Apparently, it does. Well, the system was shot. We went looking around for a quote, cause, you know...expensive. Matt from Pacific Radiant Heat swooped in, made me laugh, and gave me a competitive price. The people at the company are great, timely, and professional. We love that they are local, and they made us feel like we were important, the job was important, and they would take care of us. Installation and permitting were so fast. Thanks, guys!
