people say 3rd times a charm, I say 3 strikes you're out!
went to look for 4 of the same type of plant the other day because I was nearby.
went in at 4pm, whole bunch of staff yapping, 2 other customers. saw 2, ask for 2 more and the staff said be right back to go check. 20 minutes went by, person was nowhere to be found, ask where the person went, "oh not sure"
as usual got the home depot service(oh, I'm busy, oh I don't know, ignored) the only customer service is when you whip out your credit then they'll say"ready?"
so 3 times=3 strikes for me!

There are SO MANY different kinds of plants here, and so many huge ones! It is actually like a jungle when you go inside. I am addicted to buying their self-watering planters, since they're a convenient size with a 4" potting area and a nice urn-shape that makes them easy to pick up. They come at a great price with lots of pretty colours. It's very intuitive to find the kinds of plants you want, and you can easily find new plants to love just by looking around. The staff are very helpful and always eager to answer questions. There's also all kinds of material for decoration and different growing styles. There's a whole shelf dedicated to terrariums. Another for seeds and bulbs. I like coming here for moss and stones too, and they have their own mixes of potting mix and soil organized by their usage.

Sloat Garden Center is our favorite place to pick up everything we need for the garden! It’s the perfect spot for high-quality, local plants and expert advice. We grabbed tomato, bell pepper, and broccoli plants—plus a few other goodies—to get us ready for the season. Everything looked healthy and well cared for, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

They also have a great selection of pots if your garden needs a little facelift—stylish options for every size and space. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gardener, this place has everything to get you growing!

The original location for the incredible Sloat Garden Center chain. With locations across the Bay Area this is a great go to for plants and a huge variety of soils fertilizers etc. knowledgeable and friendly staff!

This is a very well organized nursery with plants that have terrific descriptions. I thought groundcover of three different varieties with the help of the fabulous staff.

Beautiful garden center. Diverse selection.

I live on the east coast and had been looking for a specific type of tree for months to no avail. I discovered that herons head had stock of this tree and were willing to ship it cross country. When I received the tree, I found that the top branches had unfortunately snapped during transport. The team at herons head generously sent me another one free of charge.

This Nursery is awesome. Their plants are top notch and are shipped promptly and professionally. I was more than pleased and recommend these folks to everyone.

This is my go-to place for native California and low water plants. Grasses, shrubs, flowering plants, succulents, small trees, ground cover and some of my favorites, various ceanothus species. Nice selection, knowledge staff. If you buy enough plants you can get on its frequent purchase program. Prices comparable to chains. Been a customer for over a decade.

Elliot really cares about his business. His website is amazing and he is very knowledgeable about what the best plants are for your specific location. His background is in landscaping and now he has takes pride in this business venture. Skip Lowe’s and Home Depot. Support small businesses and get the expertise you cannot find at the larger box stores. Worth a trip to India Basin in Hunter’s Point and discover the new city parks, the native plant nursery and Herons Point

This is easily one of the best plant stores in San Francisco.
The selection of native and exotic plants is really different from most other places.
Everything from microplants to trees... Ground cover to wall ivy.

All plants are healthy and flowering.

I live on the other side of the city but I make it out to hero's head at least once a month.

The prices are really good for the size and quality.
The owner is super helpful and very knowledgeable on zones, design and care.

It's located next to bay natives which is also very cool but has a slimmer, more local collection.

Parking is easy.

The staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and patient. The prices are competitive. The stock is diverse, with less of the species you'd find at a corporate nursery, and a greater variety of niche and local plants. There location is remote, but this is the kind of destination place it's fun to wander around and discover.

What a great find. Came to check out California native plant's next door and “discovered “ this beautiful, well kept nursery. They have a nice, vibrant, well kept selection of native plants , sun and shade loving variety, lots of other indoor and outdoor plants. I appreciate the fact the staff was friendly, helpful and informative( this is a great plus given the few grumpy nursery owners I have encountered recently if you ask more then one question).
Another big plus is their prices which are sure reasonable, allowing me to choose a nice diversity of pollinating plants that serve local bird and insect population, some medicinal plants as well
