We're still in process, so this review is for the preconstruction portion of their services only.
Greg W. has been great to work with so far. Very knowledgeable and prompt. Our initial consultation consisted of a long sit-down in our home with him while he listened to our list of wants and needs. His attentive nature and creative ability gave us an immediate level of comfort with him, and we can't wait to see the finished product!
Their in-house 3d rendering capabilities are a nice additional feature, as well as their materials show-room in San Marcos.
I will update this review once we are complete.

We highly recommend Western Outdoor for any landscaping project you may have. We worked with the team of Michelle, Vince and Chilo. Michelle is so knowledgeable about all of the materials which helped so much in making the right choices for our project. She was also very patient and was able to smoothly guide us through the process. She was always readily available for any questions and once the project was started she would check in to make sure it was going well. Vince created an amazing design for us which included some great lighting and beautiful plants. The 3D presentation that both Michelle and Vince walked us through was so helpful and once again they were very patient and professional with all of our questions. Chilo was in charge of the actual demo and construction. He made sure everything was on schedule and permits and inspections were done in a timely manner. He made sure everyone working in our yard was respectful of our property and us. He was also there to answer any questions we had and was very professional. The icing on the cake was the clean up after that he was in charge of and took part in. The entire project was spotlessly cleaned as well as the surrounding plants. They also power washed our driveway, sidewalk, and the street in front of our house! He also came back after the project was finished to take care of some loose ends that he thought should be fixed. The whole team was so professional, yet friendly and they completed a beautiful yard for us!

We recently completed our backyard renovation which included cabana construction, a fire feature, significant paving, steps, lighting, turf, landscaping, all of it. Western Pavers did a phenomenal job and the finished product looked almost exactly like the 3D rendering. We are so proud to show it off and get so many compliments on the quality and execution. It's gorgeous and we are so happy. From the start Vince and Michelle were friendly and helpful with the design and selection of materials and they continued to check in throughout the process, helping with adjustments and questions we had where needed. Matt, the Project Manager, was super responsive and kept things moving and was always willing to stop by when we had a question or concern. The construction crew was professional and thoughtful and overall our experience was so positive. Our project took many months but it was worth every minute. Thank you Western Pavers!

I've been working with Michelle and Adrian on a complete redesign of my backyard since July. It has taken me some time to decide on the project and funding - as anyone deciding on such a large investment may do. Michelle and Adrian have been great to work with, they have been kind, personable, and patient through the process. They have listened to and understood my needs and provided a clear, no pressure sales environment. I would not hesitate to work with them again and can't wait to see the project come to life in 2020.

We have been working with Joseph on our backyard project and he has been very thoughtful in his design suggestions and receptive to our concerns. He and Ryan were able to take our thoughts and create an amazing vision for our backyard. My wife and I are not creative, so it was great to have Joseph help bring to life our ideas and pull it all together in one cohesive atmosphere for the back yard. We haven’t started construction yet, but the amazing client service from Jospeh and Ryan give us confidence in Western Pavers ability to translate Joseph’s vision into an amazing end product for our back yard.

We hired Western Outdoor to design and build our custom backyard, including a pool and outdoor living area. Our design team was Michelle, Vince and Tony and from the beginning, they were by far the most professional and easiest to communicate with. We vetted multiple companies, but you notice a clear difference with this team in their approach, experience and willingness to listen to your ideas as well. They spent time understanding our style and how we wanted to use the space; then came back with a plan for our property which blew us away and exceeded our expectations. We've recently started construction and are very excited to enjoy the finished product, but can't recommend Michelle, Vince, Tony and the entire Western Outdoor team more highly.

I cannot recommend Western Outdoor enough for the yard that you know needs a facelift but you don’t know where to start. Joseph listened to our needs and wants and expertly created the new design. Once it was time to begin construction, Clint was an outstanding project manager. He communicated the entire way, conducted check ins, quickly answered all questions we had, and resolved any issues immediately. The final result is a yard that our family will be able to enjoy for years to come. I would certainly recommend Western to anyone and will return when it’s time to redo the front!

As someone who works in design, I was impressed with how Western Outdoor handled our project. They paid attention to color, texture, and flow. Every element looks intentional.

Design team: Michelle and Vince-we had an idea of what we wanted for the outdoor backyard space. Michelle and Vince rendered the design and we were impressed. There was a detail of counter shelf on the other side of the fireplace that was not brought to our attention that did cost us a bit more to add. My one critique would be going over the design in detail by sections and allowing time to review.

Construction: PM Matt Springer is very detailed oriented, professional, and easy to work with. When there was a change in design or plants, he was flexible and made it happen.

His crew of Noe, Trinidad, and Moises are excellent. Noe is extremely talented in his craft. He was able to direct and provide us guidance based on his experience, which is invaluable. He is professional and courteous. Trinidad also provided excellent work and professionalism. These guys are hard working.

Originally, we only planned to get our backyard remodeled. Everything was permitted and passed by the city. Our budget only allowed for the backyard. We loved our backyard so much, we asked to do the front but with a different design we had in mind.

Obviously we highly recommend Michelle, Vince, Matt, Noe, Trinidad and Noe for any outdoor remodel. We absolutely love our new front and backyard.

I highly recommend Western Outdoor Design & Build! I worked with dear Michelle in getting our landscape design finalized and she helped me tremendously in choosing the right layout for pavers and artificial grass and the materials for the job, all while considering my budget. I myself took considerable time to proceed with the project due to personal reasons but Michelle was patient with me and listened to my feedback and requests! She did a fabulous job at the end! Her crew including project manager Victor were timely, responsive, and professionals in executing the plan and the final result is outstanding! I am so happy with the end result and high recommend this company and Michelle! Thank you so much!

We are very satisfied with the service we have received until now from the staff of Western Outdoor. We are finishing some project details to start our backyard remodeling. Joseph is working with us since the beginning and his work and attention with our needs are above than expected. We had a first project presentation with Joseph and Ryan and they were fantastic. We can't wait to see the results in our backyard.

Updating my review:

We had two projects with Western Outdoor Design and Build. For the first project, I gave 5 stars because it was really good. But for the second one, I would give zero stars if I could, because it was very disappointing. In less than an year, 3 of the 4 gates they made for us are damaged. Cheap material, poor design. During these 7-8 months since the completion of the second project, I had to fix the gates myself many times, and now, after the first week of rains in SD, the gates are more and more damaged.

We are planning for a big pool project for next year and we are going to look for another company.
I do not recommend them anymore.

We have had both back and front yard redone by Western Outdoor. Working on the design with Joseph was great. He listened to our wants and made very good suggestions. We recently finished the front yard and driveway our contractor Matt was very easy to communicated with and quick to respond. Matt managed to get the project done on time despite severe weather interference. The project supervisor Moe was present and easy to communicate with, and he made good suggestions as the project progressed.

Wow! I highly recommend Western Pavers. They did a phenomenal job demolishing existing concrete driveway/side yard walkway and installing pavers. Everyone I worked with was exceptional and had great communication. Josh was my sales consultant who helped design and recommend the pavers was very helpful and great at listening to what I wanted done on the project. During the project, Jesus was the project manager and David was the foreman. The project started timely and finished a day ahead of schedule. Jesus runs a tight ship and David and his team are very hard workers delivering quality craftsmanship with great detail. Great job and thank you Western Pavers.

All installers arrived early every day, worked nonstop and were pleasant and professional. The work is excellent. From the start with the design to the end it was an enjoyable experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire Western Pavers again and have already recommended them to friends.

I spent a considerable amount of time preparing for a complete renovation of my backyard. I met with several contractors before deciding on Western Outdoor. Were they the cheapest-NO! Were they the best value-ABSOLUTELY! From development of the bid to execution and at every step along the way they were timely, professional and responsive. The Project Manager Chilo was the best and was very easy to work with. His primary crew Luis and Miguel worked feverishly to deliver a quality product in a timely fashion. My project involved complete demo to a total rebuild. Drainage, lighting, sprinklers, pavers etc. i have to also say that their paver work is second to none. My yard is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend them.

We began the process of remodeling a back yard with a significant slope several years ago. After meeting with a half-dozen design and build companies and just not feeling completely comfortable with anyone, we happened upon an ad from Western Design. We were immediately impressed with Greg and Tony's ability to create a design within realistic budgetary limits, their creativity in finding solutions for design challenges while maintaining compliance with permitting and safety requirements, and their patience as we finalized initial designs. More importantly, Greg proved to be approachable and easy to work with, and we immediately felt comfortable trusting him with an extensive landscape project. We highly recommend them as landscape designers.

We recently had the pleasure of working with Western Outdoor, and we couldn’t be happier with the transformation they brought to our bare landscape. From the very beginning, designer Craig took our ideas and rough outline and turned our bare outdoors into a stunning mini resort.

The project consisted of installing a new driveway, back patio, walkways, putting green, and an outdoor kitchen/BBQ area that exceeded our expectations, and was expertly managed by foreman Victor, who was always available to answer our questions and address any concerns. His crew was incredibly accommodating, taking every idea and suggestion we had during the build without hesitation. Their professionalism and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the project.

We would absolutely work with Western Outdoor again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone looking to enhance their outdoor space. Choosing Western Outdoor is a no-brainer for anyone seeking top-notch landscape design and execution.

I called no less than 6 companies to come out and give me an estimate. Two never returned my calls, one scheduled an appointment and never showed up. Two others seemed to be good companies but their estimates came in way out of our budget. Those companies adjusted their prices to a closer range to what we were looking for but even so I was never able to actually visualize a good conceptual design.

Joseph and Ryan from Western Outdoor Design and Build were a pleasure to work with. They listened to our ideas and expounded on them providing us with a design we really loved. They were professional, flexible and understood our needs and wants.

I am excited to break ground and will provide further review when our project is done.

I chose Western Outdoor Design and Build to help me with the landscaping of my new construction home mainly due to the designer I met with, Ed Whitehouse. Ed had a great design plan for my hardscape and really worked with me to pick plants that I liked and that would thrive in the different areas of the yard. He was really patient with me throughout the process and incorporated ideas I had, while being truthful about what wouldn’t work in my space. It was truly a collaborative effort.

When it was finally time to get started, Brian Vilte was my project manager and since I was often away at work, he had to work closely with my dad and had the patience of a saint.

Because this was a new construction, there were a couple of landscaping issues that conflicted with my building permits. Western Outdoor Design and Build brought the whole team out with Brian, Ed and David (their operations manager) so I could meet with them and we could come up with a solution that would satisfy both the city and my design aesthetic. Like I said before, this company really takes your opinion into consideration and collaborates with you on a solution to any problems that arise during the process.

Brian was also communicative via text (my preferred method of communication) and answered any questions I had throughout the process. He was also very understanding of my work hours. Chino was the head of Brian’s team of workers and did a fantastic job bringing Ed’s design to life.

The project took way longer than I expected, partly due to the aforementioned permitting issues; but throughout the entire process, Brian kept me apprised of the timeline and why there were delays. Meanwhile, Chino and his team kept the area as clean and tidy as possible during delays.

This was a big project and I am glad I entrusted it to Western Outdoor Design & Build. My landscaping turned out better than I ever imagined.

Wonderful company! Victor , our project manager did an excellent job with our project. I highly recommend them.

Way, way too expensive! Step one is to access how much money they can shake out of you. We were told $400k to $500k with no spa. We ended up subcontracting out the work ourselves and ended up with beautiful results for &150k.
