I'm very disappointed and frustrated with Gilmans San Mateo customer service. We purchased our kitchen cabinets and countertop from Gilmans. We had various problems after we signed the contract with them. First, they were charging us extra for a waste bin which based on our agreement was supposed to be covered by the cost of the cabinetry. Also, the designer said that it will take only 2 days for us to schedule the measurement/template of the countertop and 3 days from the template to fabricate and install the countertop. We asked her how long does a kitchen project of the same size will last, she said 3 weeks, which aligns with what other outfits told us. But when we tried to schedule the template, they said it will take 1 week and another 10 working days from the template to fabricate and install the countertop.
The designer denied telling us 2 days to schedule and 3 days to deliver. She said if we can find someone else to do it, we should go ahead and do that - very insensitive, knowing that she knows we won't be able to quickly find one that could meet our timeline at that time!!! After explaining to them the impact of the delay on our family, they were able to get someone to take the measurement and do the template in 2 days, but the fabrication of the countertop will still take 10 business days. What choice do we have?
Then two cabinets were not in the correct size and did not have the same codes as indicated in the plan. We all got confused! When I called, the person who took the call said she will look into it. An hour and half later, I followed up--she has not done anything yet--she says I'm not her only customer! Sure--probably several more customers are complaining about their cabinets!
Then, one of the cabinets that we received was defective. The frame is not aligned, so the door cannot be aligned either. There were chips and dents on the edges/sides as well. Every time we called for help on the issues, the person who takes the calls is somewhat helpless--she said the only person who can address the problem is the designer who worked with us. Unfortunately, she was out of town for the week. When you email her, she doesn't answer. When you call her, she says she's in the middle of a meeting so you have to rush in explaining to her what the problem is. She tries to help, but she said we have to wait for her to get back in town. I offered to send her soft copies of the plan so we are sure we're on the same page when we call her--she said she has no access to a computer or a printer. She can access emails only from her iphone! Geez all kinds of excuses! No one else is able to pitch in for her in her absence. When I asked to talk to the owner to try to expedite the solution, they gave me a number to their SF office and the owner was also unavailable. I asked for a return call, I never received a call. ,The people there have no sense of urgency! There is no such thing as going an extra mile for their customer--no, not with this company. Very, very bad service!!! HUGE MISTAKE ON OUR PART TO CHOOSE GILMANS for our cabinetry and countertop!

Very poor support for cabinet designs. Dimensional mistakes were made repeatedly, corrections were not made and designs did not progress even after 6 wks of work. Very poorly managed - we had to pull the plug and go with a different vendor to recover the project.

Gilman kitchens and baths is an excellent store that provides quality products and advise about re-designing your kitchen and bath. The expertise is excellent and their product is high quality. They also have a handyperson to help fix anything that goes wrong. If you need a new kitchen and/or bath this is the place to go.

A NIGHTMARE! That's how I would describe my experience with Gilmans San Mateo so far. Our ordeal of remodeling of tiny kitchen is not over yet, disappointments with Gilmans are piling up on top of another. We received a defective/damaged Kitchen Craft cabinet. Leadtime for the fabrication of the countertop is 2 weeks longer than we were made to believe, and there's even that prospect of more delays and additional cost! The designer was out of town for a week and no one else can help with the issues we have. I asked to talk to the owner, he's not available either and never called back. Then the designer had the nerve to tell me not to get excited and that I won't get cooperation if I'm angry. That our issues ruined her week. Sure! My house is like a spa with all my kitchen stuff packed in boxes in our bedrooms, we will have no kitchen for much longer than expected so I have to take my 80+ year old parents to restaurants to eat 2x a day, which means I have to be out of the office longer than expected, plus the prospect of losing the contractor who is working on our kitchen because of the uncertainty of when they can resume the work. I have no right to get exvited

A perfect installation of a cabinet into a recessed cavity in my dining room. The installer was friendly and proficient. I have used Gilmans for my kitchen and vanity cabinets and have always been pleased with their design abilities and follow through. THANK YOU!!!

Cheri Ginsberg - Gilmans Kitchen and Bath, San Mateo

This review has been a while coming, but better late, than never I guess. We did a kitchen remodel and to this end, gutted the whole place, and built it up. We wanted a modern look and were shopping around for cabinets and importantly trying to figure out the best design that would go with what we had in mind, balanced against utility, aesthetics and functionality. We did the rounds and found some good folks who were able to talk to us, until we ran into Cheri. It was almost as if the stars lined up and brought us to Cheri. First, we did not have an appointment and were walk-ins. Regardless, once Cheri was done with here client, without skipping a beat, she greeted us with a warm smile asking how she could help us. We ran through our project from memory – she listened intently, took notes, asking clarifying questions. The difference and what made Cheri stand out, is that she invested the time to learn what we wanted. Not what is important to X, Y, and Z. What our taste is, and what we had in mind, based on which she offered options. She also took the time to understand what is important to us, viz. the finish, the detail, and she painstakingly went through every single nuance. Her design ideas took into account what is described above and in addition to the fact that she is very good at what she does, what won us over is her time, effort and energy to really understand us.

When we were in a state of analysis paralysis, and stage of stasis trying to balance the color of the cabinets with the countertops, the tile and appliance, she patiently walked us through all scenarios and was generous in allowing us to bring home samples. We loved the level of detail she got into and most times she preempted and was on top of the project more than us. As an aside, everytime we would visit the store, she would offer us tons of food, water knowing we would often time show up from work at the end of the day. During the ordering process she made sure she checked, double checked, and then checked some more, to ensure every single aspect was thought of, and accounted for. It feels like a miracle now – there were no snafus, no delays, no hiccups, the project went through seamlessly and without event. She offered to visit during installation to walk through the specs with our contractor and was always available to answer any and all questions.

After all was said and done, she visited our place to see the completed project, showed up with a nice bottle of wine and goodies. She even helped us file a claim with insurance for a defective piece, took care of everything and the piece simply showed up at our door. I am sure there are good people all around, but to us, Cheri is special. If anyone has had the patience to read upto this point, we strongly suggest to go visit and meet Cheri, and maybe other folks will be as lucky as we were from day 1 through to a perfect installation.

After extensive shopping, we choose Gilmans and ended up with a perfect kitchen at a great value. We were working with a tight space and their design help allowed for a very functional working area and efficient storage for dishes, and utensils. We are very happy with the results and the whole process.

Gilman's never disappoints. I have worked on client projects with Kathy Smith for years, and she has been professional and efficient on every job. Recently, a client used their handyman services and was really happy, so I tried it with a plumbing issue. They were great!!

We recently had two bathrooms completely remodeled and worked with the Design & Build team at Gilman’s Kitchen & Baths in San Mateo.
Our home is older, so significant changes were required regarding plumbing, lighting, & ventilation to meet the newer building codes. Howard Gallas, the designer, & Riddhi Pandit, the design coordinator were very patient, making sure all codes were met, while coordinating a beautiful design with functionality.
The guest bath included in-wall cabinets, a recessed medicine unit with adequate space for two guests, a Corian surround shower and glass that requires no upkeep. The master bath was also designed with separate sinks, mirrored cabinets, quartz countertops, and heated marble floors.
They were extremely conscientious and made sure all needed products were available before beginning. Both Howard and Riddhi Pandit were meticulously thorough, even coordinating the marble tile subtleties in placement. Their design and product coordination were unparalleled.
Kevin Madden, our project contractor, was also extremely helpful working to make sure everything was built exactly as planned. He listened to all our concerns and went out of his way to make sure those concerns were met.
5 Stars for Gilman’s, for a fantastic job well done.

We had the perfect kitchen and then we had an unfortunate accident and it was gone!
My first and fortunately the best call in the restoration adventure was to Gilmans in San Mateo. Cheri was God sent. She is very knowledgeable and extremely detail oriented, gentle in her guidance and accurate with the delivery dates. Keeping our budget in mind she helped design and deliver an improvement on my dream kitchen. I recommend her highly.

We started working with Gilmans Kitchens and Baths for our kitchen remodeling project and specifically with Gina as a Kitchen designer. Gina has guided us extremely well through the design process and coordinated very well with our general contractor, fabricator, cabinet installer and appliances supplier. Gina is very detailed oriented and presents trade-off well for design v/s cost. She is patient and very professional. I would highly recommend her, if you plan to embark on a new kitchen and/or bath remodel project. I would like to add that all office staff are also very supportive and always replied to our questions/queries promptly. We wish Gina continued success and looking forward to working with her in the next project.

It’s been a few months since we embarked on our home renovation journey with Gilman’s Kitchen and Bath. Having lived in our newly transformed space, we’re thrilled to share our experience.

Our trusted friend and realtor, Raziel, introduced us to Sean’s team at Gilman’s. While we interviewed other companies, Sean’s honest assessment of our vision and budget during the initial walkthrough truly resonated with us.

The design process with Riddhi, Phil, and Cary was a collaborative and insightful experience. Their expertise and attention to detail were evident throughout, and their accurate time estimates gave us peace of mind. While the emotional rollercoaster of a major home renovation is inevitable, their unwavering support and guidance helped us navigate the process smoothly.

The project was completed on time, and we’re incredibly grateful for the two-year warranty that provides ongoing support. We wholeheartedly recommend Gilman’s to anyone seeking a seamless and transformative home renovation.

I highly recommend Gilmans in San Mateo. We did a full kitchen remodel using Gilmans' cabinets and the results are fantastic! I couldn’t be more pleased. I worked with Designer Cheri Ginsberg and she was extremely skilled, patient, and attentive to our project. She helped develop the layout of our design as well as the smallest details. A couple of cabinet doors needed to be replaced and she took care of it, no problem. Cheri also recommended a contractor who worked out great. I would use Gilmans again!

We came to Gilman to design and build us a primary bath. It was one of several things we were going to have to fix at our house due to an environmental issue. We were so pleased and relieved to find out that they actually have a Design/Build arm to their business, and they could handle everything we now have in place; a beautiful new primary bath, plus new HVAC, outside stucco, inside walls and window replacements, carpet on our stairs… We lived in the house much of the time the crew was doing this extensive work, and they were so kind and friendly yet very respectful of our space. The designers had great ideas (and patience) to meet our concerns. Now that it’s all done, I only wish we could have afforded to do more. I highly recommend them.
