Electrical reviews in Golden, Colorado
-
Hired these guys 6 months back to fix a GFI in our garage that keeps tripping a breaker and do some maintenance on a recessed can-light.
They came out and took a look at the GFI box, "fixed it", and charged us $389 bucks for the trip. This is an outlet in the garage so it doesn't get any use over the winter - and so we thought everything was fine.
Went out today to plug in some yard tools and noticed the breaker and GFI outlet are again tripped and seem to be having the same problem we had McBride "fix" last fall. Called them up to ask if they would come out and take a look - nope. Wanted to charge us $160 to show up and even look at the outlet. Said it was because they couldn't be sure we didn't screw it up since they "fixed" it.
Wife and I had a quick chat - and decided against giving this company any of our money ever again. If you won't stand behind your work even 6 months than i would rather not have you working on my homes electrical systems. Buyer beware on these guys.
Edit: Can't figure out how to respond to the owner response below so i'll just say this - we did not hear anything about additional service potentially costing more or other problems etc etc etc. The guy on the phone literally said he couldn't be sure we didn't screw it up since they fixed it and then said it would be 160 to come out.
Suggesting that 6 months later the big scam we're trying to pull was to have them look at something they already said they fixed - and then go on the internet and lie about it in a bad review - is such a crazy notion that i'm not even sure how to respond. So i'll leave it at this - buyer beware. -
McBride Electric did everything right even when we ran into a problem. They keep their word, take care of their customers, do quality work and maintain an expert level of knowledge.

We just finished a lighting project with McBride. Our crew was Mitch, and David, and Brett put the job together. They did a super job! There were some things about the job that turned out to be pretty difficult, and they just kept on working until they got it done! Thanks, guys
Ken Dawdy, Minister, Dahlia St. Church of Christ, Denver -
They showed up when they said they would. And even made an appointment for me on very short notice. So that was very nice.
With that said - that is about the extent of the good they did. The electrician moved 2 light switches for us, less than 4 feet away. Sounds simple enough, for a licensed electrician, right? Apparently not. I had to call them back to come out again today to fix the fact that the light switches were not working. Had to take another hour and a half out of my day to go back and meet the electrician again. In the meantime, my contractors that were working on the drywall had to stop what they were doing...again....and stand around and wait for an hour while the electrician fixed what he messed up yesterday.
They charge around $75 per hour (plus a trip charge) - and they bill you $75 per hour for the 15 minutes they are sitting in their van talking on the phone, and writing up your bill. It cost over $250, just to move 2 light switches less than 4 feet away. That is excessive, in my opinion.
So, I called Brook, who I assume is the manager or owner to complain, and was offered $50 compensation...for the 1.5 hours of work that I missed from work going home to meet the electrician again, and the hour my contractors wasted standing around waiting for the electrician to fix what he screwed up yesterday. And apparently I hurt his feelers, being "snarky", about wasting my time. Poor guy. If you use McBridge's $75 per hour rule, then the 2.5 hours wasted by me and the contractor, we should have been reimbursed $187.50.
Unless you have nothing better to do with your life then sit around while McBridge fixes their errors, I would look for a different electrical service to use. -
This company was amazing. I had an emergency situation and they were able to come out to me immediately to fix the problem. Derek was very nice and was able to solve all of the problems we had in the house plus discovered an issue that the home inspector missed. I will be using this company again in the future and recommend them very highly.

McBride Electric is outstanding. Excellent work — expert and thorough. Mc Bride Electric will always be the one I’ll call whenever I need electrical service. It was as pleasure to do business with McBride.

Great help! Tackled the job, were very nice, and had helpful suggestions to my questions.

Jared:
I just wanted to take a moment of your time to give you some feedback on Manny, Mitch and Steven. Manny, Mitch and Steven have been exceptional. They are all very professional in their work ethic and friendly to the residents and staff. They have gone above and beyond to check in when they arrive and when they leave, making sure to keep me informed of the areas they will be working in on any given day. It’s not often that people take the time to let a supervisor know when their staff is doing good, we mostly here the bad, so I think it is important that you hear how great they are. Please let them know that I appreciate that.
Thank you

Not often enough do we follow up with a compliment to someone who is very kind, so I will. Justin came to our home to do work on light fixtures. he managed to do to them exactly as we wanted. I asked him if he had time to do a few more things if he had time. He checked with the office for time and did the extra things for us. I just wanted to say that Justin was very kind, took his time-not in such a rush and very pleasant to have in our home. When all was finished he moved things back in place, cleaned up what he did and was on his way. I think you have a very good employee there and just wanted you to know.

My general contractor suggested McBride Lighting & Electric.
I called on a Thursday and left a VM. Although in a hurry to hire an electrician, got a call back from Scott 3 days later who said he could come out for the quote the following Monday at 10:00am and then they could start the work at the end of the week - the same week. WONDERFUL!
The day of the appointment, I head to work which consists of preparing a facility for dogs to show up, meeting with and chatting with clients who are dropping dogs off, ensuring my staff are there, on time, and doing what they should be doing, as well as in good spirits. I am VERY busy and not on my phone or on my computer at this time, and often unable to answer a call if someone calls in.
During this time, Scott called me twice to confirm our appointment - once at 8:50am and another time at 9:16am. This is all fine and good, except no one told me that 1) I would be getting a confirmation call the morning of the appointment and 2) if I did not answer they would not come. So guess what - Scott did not show up because the soonest I was able to check my messages and call him back was at 9:55am.
Upon reaching him, he was in the process of standing in line to get a permit from the City and County of Denver for another client, rather than being in route to meet for our appointment. He told me it is their policy to not show if they call and don't get an answer. As I told him my situation, and why I had not answered my phone or could even call him back, he said he would be willing to come but could not get there until 11am as he was in the process of getting a permit and was 6th in line, and unfortunately since I did not answer my phone he could not come sooner. I proceeded to tell him that my day is booked and my next appointment is at 11am, so he asked about my afternoon or rescheduling completely.
The problem was, my week is booked out with appointments until the end of the week and time is of essence (we needed the electrician doing work by the end of the week), but I did feel I could move appointments around. However, because Scott kept giving me excuses about why he did not show, argued with me about why he did not communicate the policy ahead of time so I would know to look for his call and answer it (or give a call back), and was clear about the value of the permit being more important of a task than meeting with me - I felt it would be best to see if I could work with someone else at McBride. So I called in to see if I could get a different representative from the company to work with and got Scott's supervisor.
I did not get this gentleman's name, but he too confirmed their policy and said it was unfortunate that I did not answer my call. I told him that I was with clients and did not recognize the number, for which he told me I should have just answered the call regardless or should have called right back - BLAMING ME for the missed appointment, when no one told me the rules of not answering my phone and confirming an appointment.
Normally professionals will call 24 hours in advance to confirm an appointment OR tell you the rules of not confirming an appointment if a call is made and not answered. NONE OF THIS WAS DONE! If ANYONE at McBride Electric would have communicated the rules of confirming an appointment I would have been able to accommodate a solution - even if that meant me calling them at 7am when my day started to let them know we were still on. Both Scott and his supervisor argued with me, blamed me, and treated me like it was my loss for not answering my phone.
This experience was frustrating, belittling, stressful, unfair, and unprofessional.
Given the lack of respect, consideration, and empathy when I finally got in touch with them, in addition to the lack of communication in letting their clients know about the rules, the superior & unyielding attitude towards me, and over all lack of care for a potential client - I have no desire to work with this company and would NEVER recommend them to ANYONE! -
Mitch D has always been on top of operational issues in this store. When he finds any lighting/safety issues which pertain to this business, he immediately finds solutions, takes care of getting approvals, and completes the job. His work has never been faulty; he ensures that his services are complete, and leaves no details lingering for someone else to find or fix. I will say that he's the most competent electrical technician I've encountered in 42 years of business. He represents his company well. When calling for repair or services, I request him and hope that he is the available technician to help. When he shows up at the front door, I know the problem(s) will be fixed without any further problems. Mitch, thanks for your great level of service and commitment to your job!

Hands down the absolute best company I've have the pleasure of working with. Everyone that works there are really good people and I know them all. Mitch, Dayne, Scott Dorey, Justin, David, Brook, Brett, Scott, Tim, Chris, Jared, Chloe, Alysha and all the rest of the guys and gals there are just genuinely amazing. If I could give them 17 thousand stars I would. Don't hesitate to give them a call. They'll help you with your electrical needs.

McBride Lighting and Electrical recently completed an exterior lighting retrofit at a shopping center I own in Parker, CO. Brett and Manny were very good to work with and the project came out better than I was expecting. I highly recommend working with McBride for your lighting/electrical needs.

Dave was on time. He was pleasant and very efficient. He installed the two light fixtures and dimmer switches expertly. We are enjoying the new lighting.

Worst experience. I am an ADT customer. ADT hires 3rd party electricians in Denver, CO to come out to their customer's houses to replace light switches for ADT pulse because the ADT tech is not a licensed electrician. The appointment is set for first call 8 am (no window) and the appointment was made 5 days in advance. The ADT tech is on time but no one from McBride Electric shows up. The ADT tech and I waited 1.5 hours for the electrician. The ADT tech called McBride several times and was given the same answer each time 'the electrician will be there in 30 minutes'. I myself, the ADT customer, called McBride after waiting 2 hours, to speak to their scheduling person, who is the manager named Brooke and I tape recorded the call. Brooke says their computers didn't sync so the electrician didn't know he was supposed to be at my house at 8 am from an appointment set 5 days ago! Brooke didn't offer an apology and was just rude about the entire situation - he could care less. McBride is an electrician who can't operate computers or show up for appointments. Brooke hung up on me when I complained about waiting 2 hours for like any reasonable person would have done especially since the ADT tech was told several times the electrician is 30 minutes out-which was a lie. McBride doesn't call ADT or me EVER to give us updates that they are going to be late. I don't know how they will be in business much longer with these business practices. After Brooke hung up on me the ADT tech and I dumbly waited 30 more mins for McBride, then the ADT electrician called McBride again, for the 4th time now, asking where they were and the lady at McBride said 'oh weren't not coming out now because we are scared of your customer' (me). So, if you are looking for an electrician, who doesn't show ever show up, doesn't tell you that they aren't coming, hangs up on customers and could care less that you sit there 2.5 hours waiting for them then please call McBride Electric. Brooke said he expects his customers to have to sit around for hours waiting for them to show up. The ADT tech was 3 hours behind for the rest of the ADT customers scheduled for that day because of McBride and McBride lost business. That shows you how smart they aren't. But the good news is ADT will use a different electrician to come back out to my house. I am telling everyone that asks me not to use McBride as an electrician. Word of mouth and reputation is everything. Please note McBride Electric is not in any of the top good reviewed electrician companies, they aren’t on Tom Martino’s referral list, etc. Go to these referral lists to find outstanding electrician companies with hundreds of great reviews constantly over the years. Electricians that do show up on time. McBride blames the customer for them not showing up, or being hours late with no heads up to their customer, so pathetic. Do your research before you hire this company.

Do not consider using this company for any reason! After questioning them about my invoice I was told all the charges were standard industry charges. I called 6 other local electricians and not one charged what McBride charges for. They all have slightly different rates and some are flat fees and some are time and parts but none charge to have the electrician come to the job, go to the hardware store twice, take a 45 minute lunch, not complete the work completely, and then write up the invoice. All while the electrician just kept talking and talking. He actually only worked for 2 hours but I was charged 4.75 hours of labor (4 on-site labor hours and 3/4 hr for traveling to the job which is in town and was not a special trip). McBride charged me $88/hr to do all of these things for a simple and routine hot tub install. I confirmed with the other companies that a hot tub install based on my situation of not needing to do any panel upgrade and only needing 20' of line max is a job in the low hundreds. McBride charged me $1,081 after telling me on the phone and at my house before starting work that the job would be $500. After calling to complain the person I spoke with was rude and argumentative.

We are a non-profit outdoor inline hockey rink and league that supports growing inline hockey in Boulder County. The folks at McBride were fantastic in their flexibility with a payment schedule for our non-profit. They made every effort to give us the flexibility so we could do the project. They replaced the 45 foot pole we had and installed lighting that is perfect for our location. They accommodated our schedule and were respectful of our property. Can't ask for anything more when spending this kind of money. Thank you McBride Lighting.

Great service. They were available within a couple of days. Scott showed up on time and did a wonderful job. He even gave us good advice that saved us money and came in under the estimate. Would absolutely recommend for electrical projects.

We hired Mcbride to do new lighting in our commercial space in 2022.
First, The workers were Very late each time they were scheduled to come out. Then, one of the tracks stopped working immediately. The track lighting is on a ceiling about 20 feet up - keep in mind, there is no way it could be tampered with on my end as I'm not a 16ft woman, unfortunately.
Three separate times, I had their technicians come out, and "repair" the track, only to have it break again days later. At a certain point, I think March of 2023 - They came out one last time and said I needed a new track. They said they'd order one and get back to me, I never heard back.
At this point, other things came up and I stopped calling to ask about it,- (I had a miscarriage, a father on hospice, more pressing business than a piece of track lighting.)
Now, with a bit more time on my hands I called again to inquire about the broken track - again, someone came out, said it needed to be replaced and said they'd be in touch. This was 7/19.
I never heard back until I called them yesterday, 7/31 and left a sassy message, because I'm so sick of dealing with this piece of junk.
At this point, they want to charge me for the broken piece - insinuating that its past the warranty and that I've done something to break it... even though, its been broken since install in 2022, I couldn't have possibly tampered with it as a mortal human with normal height, and Its their fault its past warranty because they never called me back.
Someone named Brook offered to cover the charge after a nasty email, but I'm sure the install will be late - and probably not work, Especially now that I've voiced my complaints.
I’ll happily take this review down if there’s follow through on their end - but not until then. -
From start to finish McBride was understanding, professional and provided exceptional service. When my 1940's house had the power go out they were able to get someone out to help me on a holiday weekend., Mitch was knowledgeable, professional, and able to explain what he was doing and get my house up and running in no time, and it was much more cost effective than I was expecting.

Brett and the team at McBride did a fantastic job of the installation of new exterior lighting where I work(CraneWorks). They were quick to come out to quote the work and did a very nice job with the installation. Thanks to the McBride team for a job well done!
