These guys were awesome from start to finish!!!!! Attentive, quick, great price. Very happy.

I got off to a rough start, but once all the paperwork was in, the contractors, electricians and installers worked like clock work. They were professional and did a great job. They cleaned up after so well, you wouldn't know they were there!

I am the roofing company that was hired as a subcontractor
for Surf Clean Energy to provide Surf Clean Energy's
customer with a new roof prior to Surf Clean Energy
installing the solar panels. I was never paid by Surf Clean
Energy for three roof replacements that I did back in March
2024. Its has been 10 months since the roofs were done.
Tyler Moston (the owner of surf clean energy) does not
answer my calls or texts. He has blocked my number. Tyler
Moston and Surf Clean Energy owes me $31,286.42 in
unpaid invoices. I would advise no one hire Tyler Moston or
Surf Clean Energy because he has left me no choice but to
have to file for a mechanics lien on the customers property

Ian's crew did a fantastic job. Surf clean energy was a pleasure working with. Very polite very professional.

UPDATE: 8/1/24 -- I spoke with the owner of Surf Clean Energy several weeks ago who reached out to me after seeing my review. He advised me about their error with the BBB, they now have a BBB accreditation with several ratings (Please check it out). Also I advised him, I didn't want anything to happen to the sales rep as I felt he was doing the best job possible with the information and the presentation he was provided to use, and that he called his supervisor when asked questions he could not answer. He advised they will strive to bring better transparency to their pricing for future customers in their consultations in terms of owning vs leasing panels with pros and cons for both. As well as better consultations going forward. It was a very direct and positive conversation. I hope future customers benefit from this and I hope the changes work for the best.

As I have been interested in Solar I decided to begin shopping around and Surf Clean was the first I did a consultation with. Before I start this isn’t a knock to the salesperson, he did a wonderful job and when he couldn’t answer a question he contacted his supervisor. However, this is a company issue

1. They stated they were a BBB accredited business. So naturally as the salesperson was talking about their passions for donating I went to the surf energy website to click on their BBB link. Not there, went onto the BBB website and they are not only not a non-accredited business they are ranked as a C-. So if a company is willing to lie about something thats easy to research was a major red flag.

2. The cost, they show you the cost of LEASING (they never mentioned purchasing or showed the side by side comparison of price). So you do NOT own the panels, and they reap the benefits of the tax credits, rebates and basically are charging you more than double the cost if you decided to purchase the panels. They show you the price at start which for me was roughly $180. By year 25, (price goes up 2.9% per year) it was almost $400 a month, and the total Id be paying was $82,000 for something I wont own.

For me these 2 reasons is why in the end I wont be choosing them. For anyone else considering them please ask them questions concerning the price in leasing vs owning immediately. Ask about state and federal programs and ask about the difference in cost. Ask how disputes are handled if there is an issue with construction or permits or working with your local power company to ensure that its seemless

As for surf energy, please remove that part about the BBB and change your slides to discuss the pros and cons of owning vs leasing so we can make better decisions. Less slides about who you are donating to.

I waited far too long to write this review trying to be the nice person. 1 year to be exact but have lost my patience now. I had my solar panels installed over 1 year ago and I purchased them instead of leasing them which means I had over 30k to pay for it and I was waiting for the surf clean company to finish their job so I can get my money back from tax abatement. I called them maybe a couple of hundred times over the last year. Once they got the money, they disappear. Most off my calls were unanswered and voicemails unreturned. Whernever they answered they said someone will contact me back but no one ever did until I reported them to BBB. They finally called me after reporting them and I have been in contact for the last 4 months with them trying to close the permit on my property and their architect signing the form so I can get the tax abatement. Their employees have no idea how to do their job, not their fault I guess because no one probably trained them. It takes in average 20 calls from me for them to reply to me and their reply is usually let’s wait another week, they will call me back but they never do, and same story the next week. When I ask to speak to their boss or someone who knows how to do this job I never get called back. Anyways I will have to open my bbb complaint again with them and possibly persue legal action for fraud because they get the money and never finish their job. I am writing this review to warn the people so they know what kind of company they will deal with and also hoping that their boss or someone capable will see this and call me back before I go to pursue legal actions. I just want to be done with them once and for all.

Years later and still dealing with the headaches of having hired this company to install solar panels in my property. Initially it took them over a year to install. Then many issues afterwards to which they acted like they cared, but clearly it was all a lie. Such a disappointment. I recommend going with a more known and reliable company even if this company seems to give you a better deal, it is not.

Now I must revise my assessment of Surf Clean Energy. It is 3 months since my system became active, and they still have not fulfilled all their contractual obligations. My EV charger hasn't been installed, the referral reward they promised for my friends, and the credit to me for the original review, have not come through, and, most concerning of all, they have not sent the Engineer certified system validation form required for the NY propery tax reduction.
They seem to have internal communication and coordination problems, and make promises they don't deliver on. I just hope the insurance policy is good if anything goes wrong with my system. Use a more experienced company.

3/18/2024: modifying this review yet again: Surf Clean Energy has finally completed all parts of our contractual agreement. In the end I have to say that they do get the job done as promised, although some parts of it took longer than I was told. In this sense I think you can consider their services reliable.

It was a pleasure dealing with this company. Tofael was the lead person charge of the installation process. He went beyond his duties and fixed and advised me of issues related to the installation and my existing panels. I would highly recommend him and him company for future jobs.

Gilbert and Kyle done an amazing job with the solar installation and electrical work. Very respectful and neat with the work and my home. Very informative with the the project and explain things throughly as well.

Dealing with Surf Clean has been a pleasure. Everyone was always there to answer any questions and the installation went easy. One panel was damaged on delivery, but Alex took care of it right away and had a new one installed. I probably would not have known if he did not tell me. They handled dealing with all of the permits. I am now waiting to see the savings on my electric bill. I highly recommend Surf Clean.

This company is amazing! They installed my solar panels beautifully and only took 4 hours. Didn’t have to worry about anything at all, they know how to work and make customers happy. Overall, a great company and will highly recommend it!

The workers are professional they did an excellent job,all of them clean up after themselves and I would recommend them.

The company and crew's all very friendly, and knowledgeable about the system.the permits went fine,electricians were friendly knowledgeable, highly recommend to anyone looking for solar energy panels to be installed. Can not say enough about the crew's and company.

Do NOT buy solar from this company.

1. They underestimated the amount of panels I would need to power what we agreed we wanted. So instead of paying nothing for electricity every month, I pay hundreds of dollars in loans.

2. They completely misrepresented the loan they sold me. They did not inform me that the initial payments were at a teaser rate. They assured me it was fixed 2.99% for the lifetime of the loan. I even had my financial advisor review the paperwork. Now the loan servicing company is coming after me for ballooned payments that were NOT disclosed.

I was very excited to have solar on my roof. Needless to say, it has been an extreme disappointment.

Initially this process was a headache! Dealing with different individuals on this project, certain individuals leaving the company randomly without any correspondence, it was very tough an frustrating. But after almost 2 yrs, everything is done. Big thanks to Swapnil Prabhu. He was very helpful and responsive and offered all the help that was necessary. Without him, this wouldnt have been completed. He did a great job, taking over the project earlier this year, and ensuring that everything would be okay. Thanks to him, its light at the end of the tunnel!

I am an architect and had a very specific vision about adding raised solar panels to my existing furnished, landscaped roof deck. I wanted some areas of sun and open sky for my plants and did not want to obstruct views of the downtown Brooklyn skyline. The Surf Clean Energy team was able to create a custom design that maximized energy savings while minimizing any negative impact to the existing furnished roof terrace and plantings that my family and tenants can continue to use and enjoy. While the panel sizes, number and location of panels, and raised canopy specs changed a few times during the project, Surfclean maintained the original design intent, to maximize energy production and provide sunlight and shade exactly where I wanted it- and maintained open space for deck furniture below the raised canopy. When the panel count was reduced , the contract price was adjusted properly.The installation team was friendly, careful and the craftsmanship was clean and professional. I would recommend Surf Clean based on my positive experience.
