Constraction reviews in Cape Coral, Florida

I'm a State of FL licensed GC and would never operate my business the way they have. John/Owner was very unprofessional and poor workmanship.
-
Good company. I've been a supplier of theirs for almost 15 years. Great personal service.
John and Debbie will take care of you. -
Glen and Bill hand replaced a piling on my dock. They were professional and courteous not to mention how hard they worked to get the job done.
They go by the name "Pile Crew". -
Very satisfied with the price, quality and adherence to schedule. To put it simply, Tropical Marine did what they said they would do it ! Thank you.
-
Needed my dock modified rep. came at scheduled appointment time, told us what they were going to do and finished the project when scheduled. Debbie responded to all emails in a timely manner which was greatly appreciated.

Tropical Marine's barge crew of Bill,Glen and Seth just completed tearing out my old dock and placing new pilings. They did a great job and I highly recommend Tropical Marine and Bill, Glen and Seth!

One of the best and most trustworthy companies in Southwest Florida. Hard workers and just some great down home people! Definitely recommended for any Marine (boat docks, repairs, boat lifts etc) construction you need!
-
Tried to arrange to have Tropical Marine to replace my doc months in advance, was told it would not be a problem for that time, when it came time to get it done I was told barge was broke, they were supposed to call me back to reschedule and it never happened. Ended up getting another company to do the job, and just wished I would have contacted that company earlier. Wasted a year.

Imagine this. You worked so hard your whole life, you finally buy your first house at age 47. The house is 5 years old. The boat lift is one year old and was never used. Hurricane Ian hits. You contact the number on the sticker. Dude comes by, assesses the situation. GREAT. then crickets. I've been asking them for an estimate for 3 months. I got nothing. Then, John texts that Debbie will get back to me after the New Years. Still. No answer. Hello? Anyone home? You built this thing. You came by. PLEASE GIVE ME THE ESTIMATE. So unprofessional. I get that you're overwhelmed. But don't tease people. The clock is ticking and time is money. And they WASTED my time. I wish you luck and good fortune. I have a business and you do not treat people this way.

TROPICAL MARINE INSTALLED BOATLIFT COLLAPSES
Tropical Marine installed my boat lift in 2012. It collapsed in 2016. For four years the lift didn't even have a boat on it.
It appears that the two support brackets which Tropical Marine installed had four support bolts. The boat lift builder used three galvanized support bolts and one stainless steel on at the water line. Everything else in the lift was either stainless or aluminum. Needless to say the galvanized bolts corroded, the front bracket gave way and the bow of the boat fell in the water--sustaining water damage. I recently sold the boat the 22 foot Sea Ray for $200 as salvage.
Tropical Marine backed away from helping me, even though at first they offered to replace the bolts for $810.
This negligent a fraudulent business practice on the part of Tropical Marine could have turned out even worse than financial loss on my part if there had been a person under the boat cleaning the hull at the time of the lift collapse. -
Terribly disappointed. The home is a vacation rental as we live in San Jose, California. As Tropical Marine would only do the work (seawall repair) on a Saturday, we had to wait months for a Saturday that was available on their schedule and also when the house would not be occupied in the morning. I called Thursday to confirm the work would be done Saturday morning. I was told Tropical Marine would be there at 8:00 am. They weren't there at 8:00 am or 9:00 am or 10:00 am or 11:00 am or noon. I called the office at 9:20 am and got their voice mail message that the office was closed. At 1:08 pm I received a call from Debbie (the owner) telling me they were on their way. Given the fact we had guests coming to vacation in the home at 4:00 pm I had to cancel the work. I can't tell you how upset I am. Suffice it to say, I won't go back to Tropical Marine and I will be looking for a new marine contractor.

There are many other dock builders out there. Do your homework before hiring. I would not use this business under any circumstance. They can play games all they want with DBA names and the like, but my attorney says it is okay to express my opinion. And that is all this is, my opinion. My opinion of John is low. But there again, it is only my opinion. Just be sure you get several estimates. Inform yourself about how a dock should be attached to the seawall. And be sure to observe how the ledger board is attached to the seawall, for that will affect the nature of your dock and seawall toppers for years to come. If attached incorrectly, your seawall toppers will spall and fall into the canal. Just my observation/opinion. You are free to choose this company. But I won't. Ownership changed when it was handed over by one crooked brother to the other with a DBA mask. Cheap BS. Do not use.

Just had a dock built by Tropical (over $10,000 ) in St James City .From the estimate to completion they exceeded my expectations. They were the best priced and worked fast to give me an awesome dock. Thanks . I will use them and recommend them to everybody I can. Great job!

I had a 16'X12' Dock installed. They did a terrific Job. Job was done Fast (1.5 days from start to finish) and done right the first time. Kevin, Derek and Seth were great and hard working. This is a rare experience in SW Florida but truly a pleasant one. I highly recommend them.

Tropical Marine just finished a new dock / boat lift project for me in Cape Coral. The dock exceeded my expectations - came out FAR better than I had imagined it ! Everything was a pleasure - from the initial consulting / drawings to the finished product. I am thrilled with my dock, and would highly recommend Tropical to anyone looking to get a dock built. Thanks John and Deb, and happy boating !

We recently had Tropical Marine install our dock and boat lift, and we couldn’t be happier with them. From beginning to end, we were impressed. Initially we had a design that we thought we wanted, but after reviewing it with them, we realized that they had a design that worked much better for us.
They were great at notifying us of what was going on through each step, were very knowledgable, and made sure we had what we wanted. Our neighbors watched as they installed the decking and said that they were careful to make sure it was right and their workers were very considerate. A couple months after it was done we had a minor issue, and they went above and beyond to fix it, doing more than what we would have expected. We are glad that we chose them for our dock and would gladly do it again. -
I searched the area for dock builders and I found Tropical marine to be the cheapest. I was surprised to find out after the timely construction of my dock that their workmanship is totally top shelf. Debbie and John are very professional people to deal with. There are no hidden costs and they stand by their work. I will definitely use them again for my future projects. Chris Y

I can't say enough good things about this company. The entire process from start to finish went so smoothly and fast. The end product was more than I dreamed of. The office employees kept in touch with me the whole process and even came to jobsite to make sure all was on track. The workmanship of their crews are exceptional, as well as hardworking and able to answer any questions I had along the way. I would strongly recommend Tropical Marine if you are looking to build your dream dock!!!
Special shout out to the crew - John, Debbie, Lisa, Zach, Kyle, Jared, Bill and Justin. They made it all come together. -
Great experience from beginning to end. Before I purchased my condo at the end of 2016, I needed an assessment of my dock and estimate for a lift. Later when I was ready to buy, there were no surprises....on price, permits, schedule or anything. Installation crew was on time, professional and accommodating. Debbie was always "above and beyond" providing guidance on questions I had about my lift, electrical vendor, installation process/schedule and advice on replacing the deck on my captain's walk. I highly recommend Tropical Marine.

We are so pleased with our experiences with Tropical Marine Construction on the design and realization of our new canal dock and tiki living space. John and Debbie were great to work with from the start. Debbie designed our dock and tiki before we even had a home purchased. John came to a few of the listed homes we were considering, to assess the feasibility and any concerns, giving us confidence in our decisions. Our new home, by chance, was familiar to John, as the existing 20+ year old dock and lift were installed by him, years ago. Debbie worked with us on each detail, finding the exact materials we wanted, even through the shortages the pandemic has spawned. The removal of the old dock and lift was handled professionally and neatly, and the Barge Crew (Zach, Josh, Matt and Bill) worked to carefully and confidently install the pilings for our new dock and lifts. John was on site (and in the water) for some of the fun. The framing crew (Dustin, Kyle, Dalton, Justin and Jared) completed the dock framing and decking showing great skill and attention to detail in each step of the process. It was obvious that they were quality focused, and took time to answer any questions that we had. They cleaned up debris daily and were professional throughout. They installed the lifts with great care and made sure they were ready for electrical contractor. We also had Tropical repair several seawall seams that were showing a bit of depression, an added benefit with Tropical Marines full service capabilities. Debbie has been wonderful in staying in touch, either by phone or on site during the construction and is truly focused on making certain we are thrilled with the process and the final dock. We recommend Tropical Marine for any construction or repair needs others might have.
