I recently met with Robert from LeafGuard, and while the overall experience was positive, there are some important things to note about their pricing approach. Robert was extremely professional, patient, and took the time to thoroughly explain how the system works, which I really appreciated.

However, be prepared for a significant pricing game. LeafGuard starts with an extremely high initial quote, which can be drastically reduced if you’re willing to negotiate. The problem with this approach is that it creates uncertainty about what a truly fair price is. In my case, I had access to a previous quote and calculations given to the original homeowner years prior, and after adjusting for inflation and aluminum costs using those calculations, I had a reasonable target price in mind. Even with those calculations, the final, second “discounted” price they eventually offered was still $800 higher than my estimate (from 9,300 to 5,500 to 4,300 as compared to my 3500 for 18 × 18 × 18).

While I believe the product itself is high quality, the back-and-forth pricing tactics make for a frustrating experience. My advice: do your homework. Come prepared with your own measurements, previous estimates, and a willingness to negotiate. If you don’t, you could easily end up paying, at a minimum, 50% more than necessary. If they were more upfront with fair pricing, this would have been a 5-star experience and a successful sale.
