I have been a customer here for many years and spent a lot of money here.

SUSAN was rude and made me feel like an inconvenience.
She told me I was “lucky “ that she helped me add vinca vine to my 2 planters.
She told me to make up my mind
She told me she is a retired nurse
It’s a good thing she’s retired
I’m a nurse and I don’t treat patients that way even if they are difficult. I know I’m indecisive. I really am.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience.
I guess we all have bad days. You quoted to me 5 times about your 5 stars. So here ya go. But it’s not for you it’s for Effingers. Make no mistake.
Keep telling yourself you are a 5 star employee.

I asked to speak to the owner and he said first off “depends “ then he proceeded to quickly say “Susan”treated you well. WOW
I love your company and quality plants. But you should care about how customers are treated🥹
The rest of the staff was very nice the girl who helped me take my plants to car and the girl at register. Thank you for that.

I love this place for the great selection of plants but the service is the best aspect. The staff members are quick to assist, friendly and knowledgeable.

I feel so lucky to have this garden center in our small town! turns out it’s actually run by a long time Local family which makes me happy to spend my money here. They continuously fertilize their plants and have extensive knowledge because I came to them with so many questions lol Do good for the community and shop here!

I was at Effingers this morning and I can’t help but sing their praise!! This garden center is so well organized, the plants are all incredibly healthy, the workers are extremely helpful and when I got home I realized that I told the cashier the incorrect price for a tree I bought so I called to let them know I was undercharged by $10 and Rick was so kind about the mistake (on my part) and told me thanks for letting them know and not to worry about it. I have a small business of my own and that’s exactly what I would do, so it’s nice to do business with a like minded individual. If I could give this business 10 stars I would. Thank you Effingers.

Two weeks ago we purchased half a dozen bushes from this establishment. We looked at several and purchased a particular one that was recommended by the employee assisting us. We were told they were pretty much impossible to ruin and not to worry if anything should happen to them. If anything happened he said to bring them in or take pictures and bring our receipt within one year and they would replace them. Since then, all of them appear completely dead, at least every part above ground likely due to the unprecedented snow that happened last week. Knowing there would be cold temperatures we covered all our bushes and flowers we had planted the same day with sheets to protect them from the weather. Our flowers and other bushes we purchased from Lowe’s all survived with no issues. The bushes purchased here did horribly. As instructed, we took pictures of all the bushes an brought in our receipt to show what had happened.

First, I would like to preface that I’m not writing this review due to what happened, but in response to the treatment we received from Rick at this establishment. Upon arriving we spoke to a lovely girl behind the counter who called Rick to come assist us. When we spoke to him about our issue, he was curt, interruptive, and dismissive of us. Without even letting us complete full sentences he harshly and abrasively insulted us repeatedly, saying he had no such policy, and it was our fault for planting the bushes we purchased, recommended by them as what he called “too early”.

He was not the gentleman we worked with when we purchased our bushes. That person we worked with two weeks prior was extremely nice and helpful and had I written a review after that experience it would have been five stars. However, having experienced an issue and gone back and how we were treated so abominably, and I would even say less than humanly I felt it imperative to write this review for anyone else thinking of shopping here.

This business owner is conducting unethical practices. I highly doubt any employee would make such claims that they had a policy that they would replace anything within the first year with a receipt if there were issues if that were not true. I am not blaming this business for the crazy weather that happened, and had the owner dealt with this issue in a professional and courteous manner I also would not have an issue.

However, I take great offense at being talked down to with an abrasive tone and being completely dismissed and repeatedly insulted both my husband and I over and over several times by this individual. We came in good conscious to speak to someone and could not have had a worse experience. Never, have either of us ever been treated so horribly by any establishment we have ever been a patron of.

Have been going here for about three years. Every time, employees have been helpful. Rick is a great manager. No I am not being paid to say this. Me and my wife just purchased more perennials today. I would highly recommended them to all.

The the other day I called Effinger’s‘s and spoke with Trudy, the owner, not knowing it was the owner. She gave me so much information and a lot of her knowledge on plants that I needed for my waterfall. She said when I get there to ask for Susan. When I got there, Susan was wonderful and delightful, and helped me and had all the things that Trudy had said I needed to look at. Including walking over to her house to see the actual plants that are growing. Shortly after Trudy, the owner came out. And spoke with me and again assured me of the plants that I needed with nothing but Care and kindness and years and years of knowledge. If you’re looking for a place that feels like home more people actually care. This is the place to go. I won’t go anywhere else from now on. Thank you Effinger’s and thank you Trudy for the most delightful experience.

Just wanted to added...Big Thanks to the staff at Effingers... I was looking for Mammoth Sunflower transplants...one staff member especially...only nursery had them...EVERYONE WAS SUPER...My Senoir Aunt...drove me there...I AM SO HAPPY...THANK YOU ALL!!!

The plants are well tended to, the employees are very welcoming and helpful, and informative. I loved being there with coworkers and students

I pulled into the lot at 4 minutes to closing on a Sunday last week. The staff did not try to tell me they were closing, in fact they said for me not to rush! I knew exactly what I wanted and they had exactly what I needed. The friendly staff helped me and I was paying in no time. Then, after I had loaded the plants in the car, I realized I needed soil. Another very helpful and friendly staff member showed me to the potting shed, where she said I could pot my plants in the holders I just purchased. Wow! I will be returning as this was my very first visit to this business.

Tons of selection I was finding nowhere else. Got some great help in putting together some nice hanging baskets for my apartment balcony for the first time.

Rick is amazing. I went to the garden center today and he went above and beyond to help me with my gardening needs. Knowledgeable, friendly, and oh so helpful! I am even considering a part-time job he offered in the spring! The garden center is beautiful and peaceful. I can see spending hours there playing in the dirt and helping young things grow. :)

Was just gifted with a HUGE plant rack so, I was planning on getting a variety of different plants. Money was NO ISSUE! The lady that was helping me was wonderful took the time (only with her for maybe 15 mins) as she was explaining the one plant I love which was a $40 bonsai plant THE OWNER yells at her and says you’ve spent enough time with her and there was a man that needed help with 1 plant. So, instead of helping the man herself she was ignorant enough to rudely Interrupt us for the service the lady was giving me. The reason I went to this nursery was because I was told by my neighbor that it was a wonderful place. Well was she wrong! I just moved here and I spend a lot of money especially during the summer on plants. I will NEVER go there again, and if any asks I will steer them in a different direction. I owned a business for over 30 years and now retired. I expect workers these days to be the rude, disrespectful ones but, in this case it was the owner! I was in complete disbelief and left empty handed! I’m at Home Depot now, getting at least a start up until I find a nursery that treats customers with respect!

UPDATE: spent almost $500 on these beautiful plants from HOME DEPOT. So now my new plant rack is finished no thanks to the owner at this nursery! I have another beautiful larger plant rack I need to fill so, guessing there are other nurseries I will research. If not Home Depot apparently is the place to go GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED ON MY FIRST VISIT AND LAST VISIT TO THIS NURSERY!

We went to Effingers with no knowledge of what we wanted being first time homebuyers, we were pointed in the direction of Rick. I can not say enough good things about Rick, he took his time to draw a picture of different setups we could use and different plants. He then walked us around and showed us what they were and told us about the plants. Not once did he pressure us to get anything or make us feel like we were a burden to him on a busy Saturday afternoon. We will definitely be going back for all things outdoors!

My wife and I drive from Marissa to come to you. It's one of our family's favorite places to go in town during the garden season. They offer a great variety. Always kind and helpful. Kids feel welcome. Great place all around.

Love Effinger, stopped by yesterday for some dwarf Hamlin and this BEAUTIFUL SOUL just gifted me this lovely floral. It was so preety I was gonna go back in and buy one, she just gave me hers

The owner, Trudy, helped me select a Hibiscus today. It had a beautiful light pink bloom! I Love Effingers Garden Center, as they have so much to choose from & the service is Awesome!

This is THE BEST PLACE for plants, flowers, bushes, trees!!! They have a fabulous selection!! GREAT PRICES!!!! Everything is very reasonably priced. The STAFF is outstanding!!! They were of great help, friendly and polite. No one acts like they’re bothered to help you or answer your questions in fact they seem eager to help!!! We went to 4 local nurseries in the Belleville and Millstadt IL and this place takes the cake!!! Great job team and thank you for a wonderful experience! I will continue to shop here!!!

The staff at Effinger Garden Center was outstanding! I started an outdoor classroom garden at my school and they were great help! They were so kind and donated to my project! Every time I go there, I’m greeted with a smile and helping hand! Thank you for not only providing amazing flowers and plants, but helping the community!

Needed to replant all new landscaping for our house and I had no idea where to start. Someone on the phone told me what to bring in and today, Cathy was incredibly helpful! She spent dedicated time working with me in what I like, what I was looking for, and what worked best in our situation. Even managed to stay right on budget! Thank you so much, can’t wait to get everything planted to see the final results!
