Landscaping reviews in Chicago, Illinois

I hired Christy Webber to do some initial clean up on an empty lot and to do a landscape design and proposal to finish the job. Tony handed me the design the other day and it was absolutely everything I had imagined. He incorporated everything I asked for and did his best to keep the budget within reason and to design it so I could do some work now, some work later and some work myself. In a few years I'll be spending all summer in the most beautiful garden filled with lilacs, magnolias and flowering redbud trees with rustic flagstone paths leading to vegetable gardens, fruit trees and a private outdoor movie theater/fire pit. I can't wait for work to begin

We recently worked with Tony at Christy Webber to redesign our front yard. We have a typical small city yard and wanted to make it a natural space where our kids could play. Tony understood our vision from the beginning. He came up with a wonderful plan and made it easy for us to chose what to do now and what could maybe wait until a later stage. He was always flexible and accommodating in scheduling meetings to get the design just right. The work was scheduled easily and the installation went well. Our yard, right in the middle of the city, now feels like a hidden country garden where our kids run and jump and climb. We could not be more pleased with this work.

Highly recommend their services. Professional and courteous throughout the design and execution process. Amazing transformation. Went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. Can't say enough great things about the folks at Christy Webber.

I've been gardening for 20+ years. I've been buying my flowers annuals and perrenials at CW for 10 years if not more. I spend approximately $1,000 a year. Not much but all I can afford. I understand that I am not their biggest paying client but I believe we smaller customers should be appreciated too. Every year at the end of May, I put in a special request. The special request is Persian shields, white & purple mexican heather, pentas and especially, vanilla marigolds. There's never been an issue. Within a week, I received a call and I pick up my order. In the Fall, I special request Durango marigolds.
This year, I was taken aback by the look of most flowers at CW. By May 30, they looked really bad and beaten. I was surprised because normally I leave with $400 bill and this time, I could not even get to $75.00
On May 30th, I put in my special request. I was met by a 5'10" older woman with gray hair and wearing a long skirt. As I put in my request with another associate, this older associate started to inquire about my special request. She took over and started to explain that it's late in the season and she went on to berate me openly about waiting to put in this special request. I attempted to explain that I do not garden early - usually the first week in June so the flowers last throughout the summer into the Fall. She continued to question me. I felt I was put on the spot and ridiculed for "waiting". No other year, with no other associate, have I been made to feel this way. I felt embarrassed and shamed. She went onto check her inventory and told me she had 12 racks coming in and they had pentas and Persian shields. The others she would have to check with her growers but seemed unlikely. She said I would have to pick from what's on the racks. I again asked her could she please inquire and she looked at me blankly. I asked if I would be receiving the customary call to update me and she said yes. I knew by her look that I would not receive a call.
I did not receive a call.
I attempted to contact CW offices 12x and there's no option to raise a concern directly. After 10+ years & $10,000+ of supporting CW, I feel so disrespected and unappreciated. -
Please start putting dates on your stay off grass signs. I walk my dog in a lot of areas you service and I see the signs up for multiple days at a time. I often see them on morning walks after overnights where the grass is dewy and it’s impossible to know if/when the grass dried/re-wet or if your team was there the same morning.

Please tell your staff that it’s a wasteful environmental and noise impact on the community when they try to clean a garage floor with water and a leaf blower. My day and others is actively being ruined by your incompetent crew.

They don't know anything about native plant landscaping, multiple times they have come to our middle school and cut down our native plant gardens. EVEN WITH SIGNS that say "No Mowing" they also remove the leaves from underneath the garden beds where pollinators need in order to hibernate in the winter. They claim they are informed on native plant gardening but clearly not since they assumed our plants were weeds and cut them down before they bloomed.

Christy Webber put in a retaining wall on our school playground to keep dirt/mud from sliding down the hill onto the play area. The wall is fantastic & makes the whole area safe & clean & gives the playground a finished look. Plus the kids love to walk across the wall like a balance beam! Christy & Ben were awesome to work with & completed the job in less than 2 days so it didn't impact school activities. I highly recommend Christy Webber Landscaping!

Terrible. Bad quality plants that come agonizing and die almost immediately after installation even with all the required care. Awful customer service

Your driver in a red pick up truck is driving reckless laying on the horn flicking people off throwing coins at cars. (Damaging my SUV) If your business is anything like that driver on 290’s split I feel bad for your customers.

I am addicted to this place, they have such a cute selection of indoor and outdoor plants and even decor. The best part though are the people that work here. They’re so knowledgeable and helpful and even when they don’t know the answer they will take their time to find it. The women and the men that work here are very awesome, friendly and very funny. Hopefully the owner appreciates how pleasant they make shopping there. They’re also work really hard to help bring the heaviest stuff down n load them into cars. Truly amazing team

Repeated Gate Issue, Unprofessional Behavior, and Lack of Accountability – 41 West 36th Street
I attempted to call Christy Webber Landscaping on Friday, October 24, 2025, while their crew was on site, but the call went to voicemail and no one answered which is exactly why I’m posting this public review.
This is not a new problem. During weekly landscaping at 41 West 36th Street, your crew repeatedly leaves my gate open. Back in late July, I corrected one of your crew members about it. A man who appeared to be the supervisor asked me, “What’s the problem?” When I explained that the gate was being left open repeatedly, he denied it, claiming the crew always closes it. That’s false I’ve seen it left open myself.
I chose not to argue. I simply walked away and closed my own gate because your crew refused to do it. After I closed it, that same supervisor yelled at me as if I was in the wrong for closing my own gate. His behavior was unprofessional, demeaning, and unnecessary.
After that correction, the crew did close the gate properly for a short period of time, but the same issue has resumed again. Given the unprofessional experiences I’ve already had with certain apartment staff including Marvell, who works under maintenance supervisor Pablo I would not be surprised if they are instructing or encouraging the landscaping crew to provoke me. All of their lies and unprofessional behavior will be reported to Corporate and Higher Oversight on many levels.
I am posting this Google review to document the issue publicly since my call went unanswered. I expect your crew to be instructed to close the gate properly after every visit and to conduct themselves professionally moving forward.
These repeated failures and lack of accountability are red flags about the reliability of this company and the department staff involved.
When it comes to unprofessional behavior, karma always the greatest manager. -
Outstanding work. JR Landscaping leaves my yard sparkling green. Love them!

I originally contacted JR Landscaping to put turf in my backyard because I couldn't get grass to grow. They suggested to repair the broken concrete while I was getting the turf put in. Within 5 business days JR Landscaping had transformed my backyard from a pile of dirt to a beautiful green oasis. They worked quickly and were responsive to my feedback and frequent changes.

Mr Raul and his staff were GREAT!! Everyone from the office staff to crew team were professional, cordial, and super helpful! Mr Raul came out to the property himself to quote the work/ answer questions about general maintenance. The crew team even went out of their way to answer questions for an elderly neighbor :) Will definitely use again!

They are contracted to cut the grass at my building, which I pay for as a resident. They do good work but could use some professionalism when completing tasks.
I happened to be home when they were working and overheard their workers yelling at my dog. Dogs usually bark when you walk by the home/yard. Why not simply do your job and ignore it? I don't see delivery driver yelling at and antagonizing people's dogs when they walk by people's homes. I can only imagine that they spend the entire time yelling at my dog and the other dogs on the block since noone is home. -
I needed my yard completely re-sodding at very short notice. Jrlandscaping came out the next morning and did an assessment then came back that afternoon to get the job done for me.
The guys worked really hard and nonstop. They did good work very thorough and it looks great!
I was very appreciative that they went out of their way to accommodate my needs and would definitely hire them again. -
Prompt and courteous service. Work was completed quickly and at very reasonable price. Would highly recommend. Will be using them again for future work.

My spouse used this company for years, but I have had some major issues around transparency and their ability to follow basic instructions and failure to avoid unnecessary plant damage when doing basic Lawncare.
First issue was that when I discovered my spouse hadn't communicated with them about chemical usage, so they agreed to cease using chemicals, but consistently avoided telling me what they'd used. I assume it was roundup but they were extremely evasive. We have kids and pets and I just wanted to know what they'd been exposed to. I suspect they were evasive because of liability concerns but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
In addition, I plant a lot of herbs, edibles and native plants in my yard and they frequently chopped plants because they can't identify natives, which I don't expect them to, which is why I ask for only lawn trims, but they'd take it upon themselves to randomly clean up additional plants. And often right before harvest they'd randomly chop things because they decided it was overgrown despite clear instructions only to trim the lawn. The final straw was the recent incident in which they were sent photos of two bushes my spouse wanted trimmed but they trimmed two additional bushes damaging flowers and chopping and removing every single elderberry I was days from harvesting after waiting 3 years for the plant to grow in. I am very upset about that.
I know these are not uncommon gripes for lawn companies but I have found the recent failures to be particularly egregious so would recommend not using this company unless you don't care about whatever chemicals are sprayed and don't care if they chop random plants after you've spent time and money planting them -
Total backyard clean up went very well. The team uprooted weed trees several inches thick and some over 10 feet tall. The sidewalk to the alley is now cleaned and accessible. It looked like a jungle and is now ready for new beginnings.
