Landscaping reviews in Naperville, Illinois
-
They have a huge selection of high quality plants and have created a beautiful space. That said, the prices are higher than any nursery I have ever been to, making it a last ditch effort to buy something specific I can't find elsewhere vs a one stop shop. Their staff also has a range of experience, so need to be careful who you ask questions to (i.e. staff did not know the difference between shallots and green onions when we were searching for shallot sets to plant a few springs ago).

It's one of my best nursery ever. Multiple varieties, open wide space, and peaceful.

Visited back in April and had a very pleasant experience. They had a good selection of flowers to choose from. I’m not great with keeping plants alive but the flowers I bought are still thriving. The cashier was also very sweet.

Lovely little gem in Naperville with a unique array of gardening and decorating items. The Christmas choices for making a centerpiece arrangement were delightful! Check it out.

This spring I used The Growing Place for a virtual landscape design. I worked with Laurie on all the details of what I like/don’t like, the general space and overall look I was trying to achieve. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. After the design and planting I was having trouble with a few plants (I do not have the greenest thumb) so I reached out to The Growing Place and Laurie for advice. They were very accommodating and helped me through some watering issues and changes I needed to make. I am so pleased with their services and would highly recommend to anyone.

Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. All the shrubs and plantings we have purchased from The Growing Place have thrived. They carry more specialty type cultivars you might not find elsewhere. I have recommended many friends to look here when they can’t find what they are looking for anywhere else,

Beautiful healthy plants here and priced reasonably! I will definitely recommend over any big box store. I will definitely be returning to this nursery.

This was our first visit to the Growing Place. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. They will help you pick out the right plants for the location and soil type. There are also many unique yard decorations that are reasonably priced. It was early in the season so the garden were still pretty empty but you can get a lot of inspiration from the examples here.

Ooo! This is a good one! I love the big shady trees, the staff that seem to be enjoying themselves thoroughly, the selection, and the prices are fair for the Naperville area. Great pots too! There are also small display gardens showing you what will grow in different conditions. It's SO helpful to see what plants do in the ground.

One of our FAVORITE places and well worth the drive! Quality and a gorgeous selection!

5++++! Although this is a retailer, it has a beautiful park-like setting, with benches, waterfall, stream, pond, shaded areas, and more! If I could rename it, I would call it The Happy Place!
Plants/shrubs/trees are healthy and in great condition. Everything is staged extremely well, and the variety of greenery is endless, with common as well as hard to find unique specialties.
I had called earlier looking for a specific tree, and the person on the phone was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful.
When we arrived, we were able to find help immediately from no less than 5 employees at various times who were also extremely knowledgeable about their business offerings and able to give expert advice on planting & care.
The Growing Place may be a little more expensive then other nurseries, but not by much. The red carpet treatment, beautiful grounds, and huge selection of all things to beautify your landscaping makes this a great stop!
Not even a question---will be back soon! -
Update- we chose a tree! Thanks, Maureen! She has helped us both times and is so knowledgeable!
We’re new to the growing place but have had lots of friendly help with our obnoxiously difficult yard. The hours could be better we always have to go on a weekend, but overall, great variety and selection. -
I absolutely love the growing place! I frequent them often in the summer, but I had no idea they open in their gift shop in the winter, which is super cute. They have a huge array of different kinds of plants, including succulents, herbs, bushes, trees, flowers, fruits/veggies, and more! I would highly recommend them, their prices are fair as well.

It’s a blessing to have the Growing Place in our community. The Growing Place has an immense variety of perennials and annuals every year; and their gift shop always has an eclectic array of decor for your home, inside and out.
The Growing Place always has the best selection of hardy mums before the Fall and Halloween season and a beautiful array of holiday wreaths and decorative pieces during the Christmas and Hanukkah seasons.
Update: 4/24/25
Terri, along with the manager, gave my wife and I exceptional customer service today with the care, love, and helpfulness of a friend. Kath and I ended up buying two different beautiful metal craft bird baths. -
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 Stars – A Gardener's Paradise! (September 2025)
I stumbled upon The Growing Place while searching for unique native plants to spruce up my backyard, and wow—what a discovery! This isn't just a garden center; it's like stepping into a living, breathing dreamscape. The sprawling displays of perennials, shrubs, herbs, and organic veggies are so thoughtfully arranged that I spent over an hour just wandering and getting inspired. They had exactly the pollinator-friendly natives I was after, which you won't find at the big-box stores.
A friendly expert spent 15 minutes chatting with me (a total newbie) about soil prep and companion planting without making me feel rushed or silly. Their knowledge is top-notch, and the family-friendly vibe—with play areas for kids and wagons for hauling pots—makes it a fun outing for everyone.
Sure, prices are a tad higher than chain nurseries, but the quality and selection make it worth every penny. I've already recommended it to all my friends. If you're in Naperville, skip the ordinary and head here—your garden (and sanity) will thank you! Can't wait to return for their fall events. 🌿✨ -
This was the first time visting here. We thought it was amazing. Plants, trees shrubs, bushes, as far as the eye can see. Its a very huge place, so make sure you come with plenty of time to see it all. I came with the whole family. We enjoyed taking a walk through the whole garden. Their were many varieties of indoor and outdoor plants to choose from. It's so well organized and easy to understand. They have plenty of staff that is kind and knowledgeable on site. They carry all kinds of pots, garden statues, trellis supplies, fertilizer, pesticides, and so much more. Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible. Prices are reasonable. I do plan on coming more. I highly recommend visiting this community gem if ever in the area.

Laurie did 400 sq feet landscape designs for my front (April) and back (July) yards. Vince, their landscaper, did the planting. I have had blooms from April thru currently, mid Oct. My yard has been transformed. The plants are beautiful and thriving. We are very pleased. I highly recommend the Growing Place!

Kevin from Sebert takes care of our HOA community and our homes and community area always look so beautiful and maintained weekly. He is always responsive to any and all questions. I’d recommend him to any community.

Think twice about hiring these people....you will get the short end of the stick.....short would also be your plantings. Promise you the moon, you get next to nothing. Employees are not trained properly and many are lazy. The only thing they worry about is CDH Hospital. Managers are cocky with a capitol C. They have way too much going on to take care of business properly. DO yourself a favor, head for the hills when it comes to Sebert.

Terrible experience with sebert. Crew has a total disrespect for people’s property when they are onsite. Foreman laughed when ask why vehicle where they were working were covered with mulch, stick and what ever else they blew all over them. Contacted company and received a unprofessional response to the situation from a Terry. Don’t do business with them if you value quality work.

Our community board hire Sebert Landscaping to take over for A1 Landscaping, as they had the contract for over 4 years and they started to slack. Sebert has had the contract since April and they are only moving one third of the property and when called the still do not come out to complete the job. I never thought I would say this but I miss A1, they only slacked off after a few years of service...I can't imagine what we will get on the third month and beyond.
