They are cutting down healthy trees that are proven to be healthy, regardless of the wishes of home owners across the neighborhood.

To this day they have cut over 80 trees in our neighborhood (theres no way all of them are dead). They do this to fill their pockets. Money hungry, such a sham of a company lacking all and any buisness morale. Would check their Yelp that has under 2/5 stars across 30 reviews for more insight on their poor buisness.

I was overall pleased with the work that was done on our 3 trees. Not only do the trees look great, but my backyard was cleaned up so nicely you couldn't tell any work was done. A very reliable company. Thank you

I'd give Davey a 10, but since I got my trimming so late in the Season (end of October) I won't really be able to see the complete results until the trees is are in full bloom next spring, I'm giving them a 9.
The people at Davey were a pleasure to deal with and knew what they were doing. Having an arborist on the team is a definite plus.

Annual fertilizing in the fall and scale treatment in the spring over the last 10 years keeps our beautiful bur oak healthy and thriving. It started out as a 2 1/2 inch sapling over 30 years ago, now towers taller than our 2-story home. It deserves all the loving care we can give it!

We have used Davey Tree for several jobs over the years, from tree trimming to cutting down a large tree and grinding the stump. They have always been courteous and professional. Good results, no mess.

Horrible. We’ve had a tree for over 25 years in great health and blooming. We are being forced by the HOA and this money grabbing company to remove the tree. Their stance is that the tree is dead and needs to be removed for safety reasons. After multiple appeals and an arborist hired (arborist documentation provided to them that the tree is healthy and thriving), they have just recently marked the tree for removal against our will and there is nothing we can do to stop it.

This tree is alive and well and has sentimental value. None of this matters as they continue to look for profit in these HOA work contracts regardless of their mission statement of “tree care services to keep trees healthy and beautiful”. They’re literally cutting down a “healthy and beautiful tree” for profit. Theyre a joke and a fraud. Avoid them at all costs.

Can’t say enough good things about John and his team. They did a multitude of projects, from severe pruning, to bug and fertilizing treatments, and all were great. Very professional.

We had a great experience with Davey Tree. Great price for all the work they did on our yard. If we need anymore trees removed, we would definitely use them again.

My cat was stuck on a tree for almost 4 day. Have called over 50 different services and no one said they could help, even 911 or fire department. We were so hopeless and though she will never come back home. She eventually did jump off with the help of the guys. Just few doctor visits needed. I did not catch the name of the super hero, but Thank You! again for saving my kitty.

The Davey team did an outstanding job pruning my trees. They were prompt; we discussed what was needed; and they did an excellent job.

I initially engaged Davey in early June 2017 for an estimate to trim and prune two large trees that were growing into one another and close to the roof of my house. I accepted the estimate the same day and was told someone would contact me to schedule the service. After over a month of hearing nothing, I contacted them and they scheduled the service in mid July. These guys were terrible and couldn't have cared less. They trimmed a few branches, were gone in less than 40 minutes and charged me $420. After calling and complaining that I still had branches close to the roof and touching each tree, they came back out and cut a few more but did nothing to trim or prune the branches within the trees. Lesson learned. Never again.

I needed three very large trees trimmed, one damaged limb removed, and advice on a limb over my house. Arborist was prompt and explained what was needed and suggested that work be done in December to avoid damaging surrounding plantings. On appointed day, crew was on-time, notified me they had arrived, and scoped the job. They waited for the arborist to come on-site and confirm exactly which limbs were to be removed. Work was performed with minimal impact on other materials. Excellent site clean up. Crew asked me for final inspection to approve the work. Very satisfied.

A review of The Davey Tree Expert Company is very easy to write because...they are THE BEST! From the start to finish of the job to remove three cedar trees, all was smooth. We've had our trees cared for and sprayed by Davey for years. They are very professional! This year we had an old pine cut down and a ginkgo planted by them. Ryan Sherman coordinated the whole process and was on site for a lot of the work. He's excellent as are all their workers.

Matthew came out and carefully explained what was necessary to keep my tree safe. They were fast, efficient and cleaned up afterwards. They were right in line with other quotes we got but with them I got the Davey reputation and knowledge! I would gladly recommend them !!!

Unfortunately, we have to live down the block from their location on Foster in Wheeling not only are they overpriced and they leave messes and destroys people’s property. They can’t drive. They blow through the stop signs in the trucks and their personal vehicles. There’s are kids out here they don’t care they beeped the horn and then they give you the finger! I reported them with to the Wheeling Police Department!

Davey Tree is our place to go. All staff is experienced, pleasant, and do an excellent job. I have used Davey for our tree service for many years and would not change.

Initial consult was professional and provided a quote in a short turnaround time. I took a half day to be on site the day of service, but the crew did not show up and there was zero communication between the coordinator and the crew. After I reached out, we rescheduled for a weekend which was inconvenient but I we scheduled regardless. When they arrived, they just went to work on what was communicated to them.
This was my first time using a tree service, so I didn't know what to expect. They assumed I wasn't home so they did not attempt to check for a homeowner which I guess is normal, but they almost left without fully completing the job. As I noticed them beginning to clean the worked on area, I went outside to give them further direction so the job would be satisfactory. Good things i was home and went out there before they left or they would have had to come back. I expected a much more professional experience for the higher premium service compared to an everyday landscaping service.

We have been using Davey Tree for many years, but after losing our previous account representative we have had nothing but poor service ever since. Our current rep is not responsive, seems to be disinterested in the care of our trees and bushes. I have called to see if someone could come out to our property to evaluate a problem to no avail. I followed up to ask if the manager/director could call and again no response. I then asked the tech that was performing a recent treatment in September to take pictures and give them to the local office in Wheeling and I still have gotten no response at all.

All I can say is if you're looking for a company who is professional, cares about the work they are doing and overall customer service, look elsewhere.

Update - The manager was very responsive to my comments and called me to discuss. He then came out to our property to evaluate the situation. I appreciate his professionalism in trying to make the situation right after my previous attempts to contact. He offered well thought out advice on how to handle things going forward.

Tree trimming is subjective. I had a good experience with Davey for, I believe, the following reasons: I worked with one guy, Ryan, who is the arborist assigned to my area, Arlington Heights. I knew what I wanted, very specifically. I asked a lot of questions. I reviewed the work before they left. I was willing to listen to the advice they offered, against what I thought I wanted, in the cases where I wasn't sure. Ryan was present on the job.
I had other companies out before hiring Davey and had rough experiences like those described in other reviews, here. But Davey was recommended to me by a trusted gardener, so I went ahead. I did have to persist to get on the schedule. I called several times. You get right through when you call, initially, but then it takes a bit of work to get on the schedule. Once they get on your job, they do try to get in and get out., quickly. So I monitored everything to be sure I was comfortable with the work (was enough done?). I cannot say enough positively about the crew that Ryan brought with him on the day. True tree whisperers. They do work quickly, but they are expert trimmers; I watched, looking for careful cuts. I saw them. I had five trees trimmed on my lot, one a stand of Arborvitae completely out of control that they tamed. When is done, done on a tree trimming? I might have had one more branch off the maple, perhaps, but in the end I imagine myself on a three year cycle as my benchmark. I wanted enough removed to last at least that long, with all the obvious immediate things taken care of. The amount they charge is steep, especially compared to some cut rate outfits that I have used in the past, but I was willing to pay for excellent service that would last. I am very pleased with the results.
