Contractor feedback from Urbandale residents

Been several times to this HD, poor customer service. This HD is not like the ones in other states that I have lived. No knowledge salespeople in the store. Instead I have been going to Menards which is more of a warehouse, but I expect that from them.

Exceptionally bad customer experiences. I love HD and have spent 50K+ at this HD in the last 5-7 years on remodel purchases and other items. This store on Plum Drive in Urbandale is exceptionally poor. The service is never good, but unfortunately I live near by and frequent this location. The last time I stopped by, there were sales associates walking around doing nothing while I and other customers waited in the section of window coverings, flooring and cabinetry. What few Associates were around looked at us and ignored us. Then when we got attention, they could not help me because they don't have "kitchen designers working right now. You have to come back." Rudely stated! All this after waiting around for 15 minutes and then jacking around with associates who know nothing for another 10minutes before they can comprehend what it is I need. I know what I need, and can get most everything myself , but I can't use the computers to do their jobs and order my cabinets. Awful experience, so awful in fact, I left my cart full of goods sitting in the department and walked out never to come back. I even tried to call the store customer service line to provide my feedback and experience but was on hold for 10 minutes before I gave up. I will take my business elsewhere.

Won't shop here unless I have no other choice. Don't get doors through them. Go see a window and door specialist, even if it costs more. I bought 3 sliding doors from them, with installation. I was very sure to ask what work would be left, specifically, I wanted the doors to be finished with no trim work or anything left. Doors in, no chores. Salesman assured me, yes, that is what I was paying for. Door installer got called in from Waterloo, due to scheduling error or something. He was also late because his wife got held up at work (which became my problem). Another red flag was that he showed up by himself to do three sliding doors in one day. Long story short, they were all messed up, wrong caulking used, not functioning correctly, etc. The door handles also did not have locks on them, which ultimately was my fault, but the salesman knew I wanted keyed locks and didn't advise me the doors I ended up purchasing didn't have those. He said he'd look into it and call me back, and never did. They sent out another guy, the normal installer, who was local, to address all my issues. He fixed several things that were installer errors, had the Jeldwen rep come out and address an issue that ended up being another installer issue, then said he'd be in touch to come fix the caulking, which was done wrong both inside and out. He also let me know that they DO NOT do finished trim work and painting, which is why I now have exposed raw wood both inside and outside my house. And, that call to fix the caulking never came. Moral of the story, this store and the installers they use are ill equipped to handle a routine sliding door purchase and effectively deal with customer service issues. I've hit my fill, and can't deal with them anymore. Caulking and painting this weekend.....
