Kiel Thomson Company (KTC) remodeled my friend's house. It was an older home and the remodel looked fantastic. KTC kept the character of the house with modern updates. Can't say enough good things about this company. Kiel is very hands on and responsive - he obviously cares about the quality of work his business provides. Attention to the smallest detail was just off the charts. The extensive pre-planning for possible problems that may arise (and in fact did) ensured that a "Plan B" or "Plan C" were at the ready and implemented smoothly and confidently. The crew that came to the house (Phil, Kevin, Jules, Raoul, Kenan) did amazing, skillful work and were exceedingly friendly, thoughtful and respectful of my home. Left the site very clean each day. Kiel Thomson Company was hired to build our home in the Cherokee Triangle. After a fire, our home was deemed a total lost. Kiel Thomson was picked for this project due to his expertise with historical preservation and his knowledge of the strict building codes in the Triangle. The project required the house to be replicated to look exactly like the original 1901 structure on the outside. With the guidance of the Thomson design team we were able to redesign the interior floor plan to add upscale amenities without compromising the historic feel and look of the home. Project was completed on time and within our budget.

Kiel brings the A team. I've worked with KTC on several projects and the team is professional, the craftsmen are skilled and their integrity is remarkable. Kiel has an impeccable eye for detail and I always appreciate his contribution to the design, as well.

Working with KTC has been a breeze. We had a relatively small project and yet they always treated us as if we were top priority. The entire team is professional and attentive from start to finish. The quality of work has been excellent. Communication was open and timely. We especially valued their experienced insight and recommendations when planning and outlining the scope of the project. Time to surface the deck but my back can no longer deal w 5 hours of pulling nails seated in baked old wood. Kiel sent over two guys who knocked it out in no time and hauled everything away. And having Kenny on your job crew is always a bonus! He’s a rock star!

Kiel and his team are outstanding problem solvers. At Yew Dell Botanical Gardens we have used them on challenging, nontraditional projects with unique constraints because of our National Register listing and our sometimes extremely tight timelines and budgets. On each project they were involved not only on the construction but also as an essential part of our planning team. This resulted in highly efficient use of our funds, on time completion and award winning results. Tough to do better than that.

We love Kiel and his employees. Hardworking and love the service and quality that they have provided! Our original contractor we hired to build a bookcase with doors decided one day to ignore our calls and not come back to finish the bookcase. We waited and waited and finally after a long time asked Kiel to help us out and was so sweet and nice to jump in and finish the job for us in a timely manner. So grateful and we absolutely looove our bookcase!! I would definitely recommend Kiel Thomson Co. if you want amazing work, quality, and amazing people!

Kiel Thomson Construction Company was recommended to us not only for their quality of service, but also for their quality of character. When we completed the design phase of our project with Kiel and his staff, we were extremely pleased with their collaborative approach, transparency, proactivity, and expertise. We were set up for success as we kicked off the construction phase and we couldn't have been more pleased with the final output! Our remodel was completed on time and under budget! KTC was a great choice for our project.

It will be hard to say all the good things there are to say about Kiel, his company, and employees in this limited space, but here goes. For many years I've known about Kiel Thomson and his company's reputation for quality work, especially in renovating and adding onto older homes and business buildings in the Crescent Hill and Highlands areas. I hired KTC first to renovate my parents' home in Crescent Hill, which at that time was about 100 years old and my parents had lovingly neglected it for the 62 years they lived there. So much was done -- walls were moved, a staircase was returned to its original pre-war location, all wiring, plumbing, and windows were replaced. The foundation was re-poured. The kitchen was enlarged. An impracticable 6 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath house with a very small kitchen and almost no cabinets was transformed into a 5 bedroom 3 1/2 bath house with a wonderful first floor primary bedroom and walk-in closet.
An additional 100 years of life was added to that house because of the attention given to it by Kiel and his team.
Later my wife and I hired KTC to add about 1,000 square feet to the first floor of our house, which also is close to 100 years old, creating a first floor primary bedroom, bath, and office. The work began in early 2020, just as Covid was kicking in. Despite the issues and concerns that Covid brought with it -- supply shortages, rapidly rising prices, and a diminishing labor force -- we decided to continue rather than try to wait it out. Obstacles notwithstanding, KTC managed to shore up needed materials, maintain costs, and keep labor flowing. And the project was finished on time! All the workers (and especially our site manager, Steve Barger) were wonderful to work with, and the work itself was professionally performed. The result is a beautiful, well-built addition to our house that mirrors much of the charm of the original.
We could not be happier and have referred KTC to others, including family members.

I have worked with KTC for over 12 years, on repeat, that in itself says a lot. I’ve been a designer for 25 years-specializing in helping people with the construction process all the way to the choice of pillows on the sofa- I believe if you get the bones right, the rest comes easily. I love that I know my clients are in good hands, from start to finish whether it’s a renovation, addition, new kitchen or a beautiful pool & pool house! Their eye and attention to detail is so refreshing-compared to a lot of builders. I also love that each project with them has a job supervisor. It wasn't long after I bought my house in 2017 that I identified KTC as a contractor I wanted to work with. What particularly drew me to them was their experience working on historic homes and that they're a full-service firm. It wasn't until mid-2023 that I was in a position, budget-wise, to hire them, but once I reached that point there really wasn't any question that I would, and I have no regrets. The project we put together fulfilled several items on my old house renovation bucket list, including a complete kitchen overhaul, reclaiming previously unusuable space and turning it into a master suite, and providing access to my cellar that didn't require having additional liability insurance. It was a big and lengthy and complicated and expensive project, but worth every cent. Everyone I dealt with at KTC, from Dawn to Mac to Becca to April to Kiel himself and, most of all, to my project manager Laura - who deserves ALL the accolades - was engaged and enthusiastic from start to finish, and always made me feel like a valued and respected client. I've been back in my house since early September and remain thrilled to pieces with the end results. I can't speak highly enough of KTC Construction.

Kiel and his team did an excellent job for my family. They assisted us with design and had our project finished in record time. Kiel and his team are as technically savvy as they are down to earth. They made the building experience, something new to us, very understandable and enjoyable. In 2023, a massive tree crashed into my house, the 1920s stucco. I reached out to three contractors, and KTC responded swiftly. Kiel, Dawn and Paul, came the following day after the tree struck the house. They assisted me in navigating the complexities of the insurance company. They were punctual, professional, organized, thorough, and reliable. It took over a year to rebuild the house. They did an outstanding job. They were all exceptional, including the office staff, project manager Paul, and all the contractors. They are both skilled and kind, and that’s what truly matters! I am incredibly thankful to have had a contractor who was willing to go above and beyond in negotiating with the insurance company and, ideally, restore my home. I highly recommend KTC!
