I contacted Mister Sparky of Baton Rouge to have a whole house SPD (surge protector device) installed. Apparently, all new construction have to have an SPD installed as close to the meter as possible. The SPD protects the entire house against electrical surges. For my house and after some research, I wanted to have a type 1 120kA SPD installed. I needed to find a knowledgeable and reliable electric company that knew how to get the device and install it. Since I also have a whole house standby Generac generator, I hoped that the electrician would know the best place to install the SPD. After combing Google, I went with Mister Sparky of BR because they had a large number of reviews with an average score of 4.9, and they were the first to contact me in person. I had left a voice message at a competitor and only received a text message asking if I had the device that I wanted installed. I do not like the initial contact with a company to be via text especially in this situation where I needed to ask several questions. Joe with Mister Sparky of BR spoke with me and not only knew what an SPD was but also the different types. He informed me that they could install either a device that I obtained or he could order one, since type 1 120 kA SPD's are not commonly requested. He would call me in 3 to 5 days, which was the estimated time for him to receive the device. I admit that I was skeptical about anyone calling me back so I set a Calendar alarm to call Mister Sparky in 5 business days. After all, businesses get busy and, things can fall through the cracks. Imagine my surprise when Joe called me on the Sunday following our conversation to let me know that he had received the device. Another huge surprise was that he could get a technician to come the next day, Monday, first thing in the morning to install the device. He told me that Tyler (Jackson) would be the technician to come out sometime between 8 to 11 a.m. Tyler showed up at 8. He was very polite, and his clearly marked truck looked looked like a newer van model kept in pristine condition not only on the exterior but also in the interior. Once he saw my generator setup, he told me that the SPD should be installed at the transfer switch, which is the part of the generator that monitors the electrical current to my house. I thought that I knew everything about how my generator works, but I learned something new that morning from Tyler. I did not know that all current to my house is routed to the transfer switch first, then, passed on to my main breaker panel. Normally, if you do not have a whole house standby generator with a transfer switch, the SPD has to be installed as close to the electricity meter as possible. Since I seemed to have a very knowledgeable electrician, I took the opportunity to ask him to check my house grounding system. He showed me where the grounding wire, originally installed in 1973, ran from the main breaker to the ground but not to a buried grounding rod. He told me that it was not up to code. He showed me where my generator was grounded via a buried grounding rod. Fortunately, he had a grounding rod on his truck and proceeded to install an up-to-code grounding system for my house. After everything was installed, he brought me to the area of the main breaker panel and showed me the installed SPD and new grounding rod sunk into the concrete. I noticed that he had cleaned up the area. There was not a single screw, cut wiring, or concrete dust from drilling about. Should I need any other electrical work done, I will be calling Mister Sparky of Baton Rouge and, hopefully, can get Tyler to come do the work.

We was having an electrical issue, so he did a full inspection and came with a rapid solution to my husband.
He solve our electric home issue and gave us a fair price for some upgrades we needed.
We are very pleased with his service and will use Mr Sparky for any further electric needs.
