Had Hughes Landscape revamp our outdoor space. To start, Tim, the project manager I worked with is a class act. Great customer care from start to finish. The crew was also careful, competent, and considerate. They put down excellent sod all around the house that has taken perfectly to the ground. They also made a flagstone patio in the backyard that looks awesome. We also added some plants and old tree removal. The whole process working with them was easy and I highly recommend!

Jimmy Hopkins was incredibly professional, efficient and clearly very skilled. He arrived on time, assessed the job thoroughly, and executed the tree removal with impressive precision and speed. Safety was clearly a top priority, and he took all necessary precautions.

I really like this company especially Jimmy Hopkins and his tree crew. Jimmy always gives a great price. His crew is fast and clean. You almost don't even know that they have done anything because they leave everything so clean.

We initially began having our lawn serviced by Hughes when we moved into Brightwell in town (Poolesville). They provided routine lawn care and were affordable and incredibly reliable for both mowing and any needed applications. In 2018, we moved to a farm property off of Mt. Nebo Rd. Since that time, they have continued to provide the highest quality lawn care for a much greater surface area of lawn by our house. Additionally, they perform a Spring clean-up, routine landscaping visits by the house, tree work when needed (often needed), and they also plow our long driveway in the winter when it snows, as well as mow a very large field the requires a tractor. In managing all of these services, they have consistently been professional, hardworking, and detail oriented. We trust a lot of work to them, and I cannot imagine working with a different company.

Finally, over the past few years Carter Hughes has been our point-of contact. It would be difficult to overstate just how highly responsive Carter is. Whenever I have a question or need additional work done, Carter is easy to reach, prompt in his responses (and will come out to discuss whenever needed), and ensures that the work is done quickly and correctly.

From our initial experience in our Brightwell home, to our current much larger needs, Hughes has been the absolute best company to work with.

Hughes did an outstanding job on our extensive project involving a large deck and walkway structure and two retaining walls. Before signing the contract, they came out multiple times to assess the site and discuss options. I met with many different companies, from landscapers to deck builders to masons, but in the end I thought Hughes’s ideas made the most sense. They meticulously rebuilt the support posts and beams and the railings for the deck and walkway and replaced the two timber retaining walls. Then, they thoroughly power washed and stained everything, leaving it looking beautiful. The crew was courteous and diligent, arriving on time every day and putting in the work until the job was done. The price was very competitive, particularly considering the fine craftsmanship. I’ve been impressed with Hughes’s landscaping work, and now I’m happy to recommend them for outdoor construction work as well.

Hughes Landscaping removed a huge tree from my backyard. They did a perfect job. The crew arrived on time and was super efficient, didn't leave a trace, cleaned up, were terrific guys. Great price too.

We had a tree fall near our house and knew it was time to make a call and get it taken care of. We asked Hughes to take a look at the tree that fell as well as a few of the trees that were in danger of falling around us. They did an amazing job removing the trees on our property in a timely and professional manner. We had a great experience with Hughes and would use them again in the future.

From my first meeting with Carter Hughes, I have been extremely impressed with the way he listens to my ideas and then uses his depth of knowledge to improve them. He is very personable and goes to great lengths to provide exactly what I want (and more!).
The landscaping beds, as well as my lawn, shrubs and trees, have never looked better. Every Monday the men make sure the beds are still edged, the walkways, driveway, deck and porch are spotless and the lawn is pristine.
The one time I sent an email to inquire about a service, it was taken care of less than 12 hours later.

My parents hired Hughes Landscaping to do multiple projects at their home, including replacing a retaining wall, installing a fence, and clearing out a lot of yard waste / issues that had accumulated over the years. Tim Gardner was great to work with. He's responsive, transparent and clear in his communication, and a real straight-shooter. If he says he and his company are going to do something, it will get done without having to hound them or keep an eye on things. They do high-quality work and stick with the project until you're fully satisfied with the result. Would highly recommend to others.

We are so thrilled with the work we had done to our yard thanks to Hughes Landscaping. We had our front yard completely redone by removing all existing plants and walkway, and starting fresh with a new design. We had them design new plant beds, build a new flagstone walkway and had a retaining wall put in. We also had a huge tree removed in our backyard that was hanging over our house.

Wyatt and his crew were nothing short of amazing. They were professional, courteous, and listened to all of our ideas and requests, and came up with a beautiful design. They were very fast and paid spectacular attention to detail. They just came back to do our spring clean up, mulching and also planted a new tree. They also warrantied any new plants that did not make it through the winter. We couldn’t be happier with their exceptional service. We couldn't be more pleased with Hughes Landscaping and HIGHLY recommend them. John and his capable\professional crew installed our stone walkways in Sept.\Oct. 2019, and removed turf and installed pebble walkways and deer fencing in May\June 2020. The project was well-managed we are so pleased with amount of care and attention that went into even the smallest details. John's team really worked with us to bring our vision for the project to life, and to creatively solve any minor glitches we experienced along the way. We love our new yard!

Homeowners with healthy grass BEWARE. I had an unfortunate experience with this company. After installing new sod in the front and back of my house, I hired Hughes Landscaping to cut and maintain it. During the course of 1 season, I saw my beautiful grass turn to weeds. After researching and watching, I noticed they were cutting my grass very very short. After many attempts at trying to get someone to come out (maintenance/sales team VERY unresponsive) they finally did and barked that they only cut to 3.5”. I could clearly see that wasn’t true. So, I took photos. After getting up early and running out to stop the crew from balding my lawn, the photos I took clearly show the difference. Grass cut to 1.5” before I stopped them and it barely remaining 2.5” after I stopped them. Where is the 3.5” I was assured was their limit? As a homeowner who’s invested in my lawn, I deserve better. Don’t trust this company. They don’t listen, are unresponsive and don’t train their lawn maintenance crews.

We contracted John and his team to create entirely new hardscaping and landscaping in our small downtown DC backyard. We had a very tight deadline ahead of an event we were hosting. They not only got the project completed a week ahead of schedule, we are also so happy with the end product. The team was incredibly friendly and respectful of our home. They protected all our floors and furniture, and cleaned up after their work everyday. We highly recommend Hughes Landscaping!

Tim Gardner/Hughes Landscaping has completed multiple projects at my home over the last 10 years, including tree removal, regrading of our lawn, adding drainage, building a stone retaining wall, a stone patio, and a front walkway. The finished product is always excellent. Tim is highly responsive and an awesome project manager, ensuring that all of the work is perfect and done efficiently. After a bit of damage to our walkway by a separate non-Hughes lawn crew, Tim came over immediately to do repairs. I plan to continue using Hughes/Tim for landscaping/stone work and 100% recommend them!
