Mike is extremely thorough and detail oriented. Every line of his work is straight, every corner is true, his tile work is impeccable, in short his work is of the highest quality and will last a lifetime. I live in a historic home and Mike has done a variety of jobs from partially refinishing my basement, to repairing a faulty shower pan leaking into one of the bedrooms, to fixing the front bay windows and all of his work blends flawlessly with the historic features of my home while providing the durability of modern materials. I have recommended him to neighbors and friends and everyone has been thrilled with his work. I give his work the highest recommendation.

Ankuva construction repaired our basement ceiling after it was ruined by a leaking pipe. They also replaced all the wood molding so we could install new carpeting. The work was superb and it was done on time with excellent materials. A high quality job done with care.

Mike saved us again when he discovered a leaky faucet in the bathroom sink during the wrap up of a much larger project. It turned out the faucet was not correctly installed during an earlier remodeling by another firm. Even though the main job was finished, Mike wouldn’t leave us in the lurch. His team performed “dental surgery” over the next few days to preserve the granite top and custom cabinet while undoing the incorrect installation. Putting the new faucet in took some doing as well, but they took their time and the result was perfect. It’s more than five stars for excellence when a company goes to such lengths. Mike is a hero to us.

Hiring Mike to gut to finish remodeling and making some changes to our two floor home in Laurel MD was the nicest experience we had. He is beyond the level. It was very difficult for us to choose cabinets , tiles, colors, floors etc. Mike is a very skilled and knowledgeable contractor. He made all decisions very easy for us to make. Mike helped us with a kitchen renovation in a 1950's home. He knew that it would be a tough project as the floor of the kitchen was squishy, unstable, and uneven. He assured us that he knew how to fix the situation, and I trusted that he would stand by his work and fix things the "correct" and proper way. He did a fantastic job. He pointed out when there were safety issues, corrected problems with the plumbing, wiring, and joists of the floor (which were a complete mess). He kept us in the loop about how the project was progressing. He chose most of the materials, appliances, colors, tiles. Everything looks solid and beautiful and of excellent quality. His workman were polite and helpful. No renovation project is easy for the homeowner, but Mike was easy to work with and a kind person. Best of all, he takes ownership in the quality of his work.

Mike's knowledge and expertise within construction and kitchen remodeling is very high level. Because himself used to be a carpenter he easily modified our pantry cabinets, add on accessories like roll out trays, soft close glides.

His team is also very reliable, the crew is very professional, they listen to Mike very closely and always on schedule.
I really liked that they clean up after each work day. Additionally, Mike was always onsite, checking on the crew daily.

The cabinets we bought are solid wood white shaker, indeed actual birch wood and no mdf panels never. Cabinets are plywood construction. Mike and his crew remodeled whole entire kitchen and my master bathroom. Mike took the time to look for special crown moldings, have them painted and installed which no one else did offered.

The price is right, we are very happy with the timeline, quality and craftmanship.

I bought a fixer-upper in College Park, Maryland, and needed a small custom job done in my bedroom. After a frustrating experience trying to contact other contractors, I decided to search online, read reviews, and decided to call Ankuva Construction, LLC. Mike answered my call right away. I shared my ideas with him, and he suggested coming by later that day to see the space and discuss my project further. During our initial conversation, he offered a more effective way to bring my vision to life and quoted me a great price. He scheduled my project to start just 6 days later, and it only took two days to complete —except for the pendant lights that haven't arrived yet. The quality of Mike and his team’s work was outstanding, and what impressed me most was Mike’s professionalism, presence, and communication throughout the process. He regularly checked in to ensure everything was just how I wanted it. He even provided valuable advice for other projects in my home and will return to install the pendant lights when they arrive. This experience was fantastic, and I will definitely reach out to him again for future renovations.

These included a paved walkway, a beautiful new
Deck and an exquisite backsplash with in cabinet and undercounter lighting
All was detailed to perfection and in a timely manner

I was in need of a contractor to replace some termite damage in my garage. I settled on Ankuva Construction based on good reviews, plus being capable and competent during the initial inspection/quote, which was more than fair. Going forward with the project, what I thought was going to be a simple header and support beam swap turned into a larger project as peeling back the rotten wood revealed further damage we were unable to see from the initial inspection. The team kept in constant contact updating me as to what they thought would be an acceptable and safe solution to the extensive termite damage. I am more than satisfied with the workmanship and finished product in my garage. Don't hesitate to trust Ankuva with your home project needs.

Mike and his team replaced the cedar shingles on my house with new ones. The job required detailed measuring of the new shingles, carefully removing the old ones and seamlessly installing them. The work was done perfectly. The final step of sealing and painting the new cedar shingles was spotless without affecting windows or trim. The whole house was done meticulously and on time. It was only finished when the clean-ip was complete. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing quality remodeling work.

Update April 2023: Once again Mike and his careful workers excelled in doing a daunting job in my home: taking out a “Stack” cast iron pipe that ran 3 floors behind renovated bathroom walls. Mike saved the elegantly tiled bathrooms by going at the pipe from a far more laborious route, through walls of adjacent rooms, including our kitchen. No words can describe the care and painstaking approach they took, minimizing dust, protecting all surface areas and thorough clean up after each day. The sections of corroded pipe were removed without damage to the surrounding structures of beams, other pipes and walls. And because he cares, when he found problems in the course of the job, he fixed them, like correcting drainage flows frpm poorly done past renovations. Mike’s given name is Halil, which means “ trustworthy friend.” There is no better description of how we feel about him. And all the places they sawed through were restored to better than before.

Mike and his team were the apitome of professional. Their dedication and attention to detail in helping us realize our goal of a space for family and friends to stay was remarkable and refreshing. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you, Mike, for the great work!!

This is my second time hiring Mike and his team. They have been awesome in fixing 2 large projects. Both involved termite and water damage. He made sure both projects stayed on track time wise, was fixed in a quality manner, and all at a competitive price.

They dug a trench to the foundation along 2 sides of my house and installed a French drain and sealed the home to stop the water intrusion. For the interior they replaced all sill plates and sistered the support beams, built a new load bearing wall, raised part of the home by 1.5 inches. Mike, I can't thank you enough for the awesome work you did.

I’ve been thinking of building a backyard deck for some time. Luckily, I got to know ANKUVA Construction and Mike. After a quick phone call, Mike showed up at my house the next day. We discussed the most feasible plan and budget. In that conversation, I felt Mike’s honesty and professionalism. With that good impression, I didn’t feel that I need to shop around and decided to contract the work to ANKUVA. This turned out to be a great decision.

While building a deck might seem to be a very small project, after seeing what Mike and his crew have done, I was convinced the opposite is true (at least the work and complexity was more than what I thought). They made 6 pits by digging into the ground 7-feet deep and poured in concrete foundation, which makes you think that they were about to building a house with that foundation. Mike explained to me the importance of having strong foundation for the deck so that it will never put any pressure on the house that it is attached to. Later, I also became appreciative of his water proofing and diverting strategies by using both water pit drainage that his crew made away from the deck and the storm water pipe system that was previously installed in my house. With all these kinds of details and rationale strategies, the deck was built solidly like a rock, and I am sure it will last for a long time and stay maintenance free.

As Mike said, he doesn’t want to cut corners. I can sense his pride when he says it. He treats his projects seriously and takes strong ownership on each of them. At every step in the progress, Mike is eager to show me what has been done and why it should be done in such ways. I really like his transparency and enthusiasm. I honestly learned quite much just by listening to him and observing what he and his crew have done.

Overall, Mike’s team used high quality materials, high standard, and high efficiency to build the deck for us. I was delighted to see the project went smoothly and finished according to the proposed timeline. Based on my experience, I am 100% satisfied with what ANKUVA Construction has delivered and I would highly recommend Mike as an extremely reliable and professional contractor.

Having Ankuva Construction (owner Mike Halil) work in our home was a pleasure and an all around great experience. He responded quickly and thoroughly to our intial inquiry, and was willing to work on a very scaled down version of our project.

He had to design a closet and plan and execute putting two pocket doors into a previously closed wall, and finish floors to match. The project was on the smaller side, but with lots of finicky details. His attention to detail made sure that all the parts look good together. He also went beyond what we had specified at times to fix little things.

Of note, he built storage into a cathedral high space above our stairs. Although the closet cuts out a lot of head room over the stairs, we have not once noticed the missing space. He found the exact right place to locate the closet to make it feel natural. He also specially worked a latch for our pocket doors so that they can be locked when closed. I can't say enough good things about the finish work, and underneath it is solid construction. Mike does things right the first time.

He and his team were nice to have around the house, very professional.

Mike also fitted us in without much notice. He kept to the budget, made sure we didn't spend money on things needlessly, and gave good advice through out the project. We are very pleased with the work he has done.

Mike and his team were life savers. We had hired someone else to do a bathroom remodel and a kitchen remodel/addition. After seeing their work on the bathroom we had to cut ties with that company and luckily I found Mike. He picked up their pieces and we redesigned the kitchen so that it would actually work. The initial design would not pass an engineer review so we worked together to correct that. He was with us every step and readily communicated with us and answered any questions we had. He directed some of our design choices into a better path and we ended up with a gorgeous project. The addition is built like a tank and super solid. He corrected many under built and just odd things from the initial 1950’s build. I highly recommend them and would use him again.
