General Contractor reviews in Arlington, Massachusetts

Conneely did a great job keeping the project on track, keeping us updated, and most importantly, did high quality work. Highly recommended!

We hired Conneely to demolish and replace our back porch. They were unreliable and frequently miscommunicated regarding timing of work. The quality of the work was also below average with loose posts on our decking as soon as it was installed. We brought it up a few times and were told someone would take a look but there was never any follow through. We never were given a final walk through of the finished product. The work just stopped happening even though there were portions that were not completed well. From afar the work looks good but if you are standing on the porch it is unfortunately not a very good product.

We did a full home renovation with Conneely Contracting located in Arlington and recently discovered structurally inadequate work (per engineer’s report), multiple missing permits, and items not done to MA State Building Code . We tried to work things out with Martin (the owner), but were then ignored for 5 months straight. We then tried to take legal action, but Martin Conneely accepted no responsibility for any of the damages despite being sent photos and the engineer’s reports detailing the structural damages caused by Conneely Contracting. Unfortunately, from a legal standpoint we were time barred by a law in MA called Statute of Repose. Basically this law makes it so contractors are “off the hook” after a certain amount of time despite missing permits, faulty work etc. We did not know about this law, and the reason we didn’t hire a lawyer in the appropriate time frame is because Martin misled and lied to us repeatedly. When we had concerns about the work during the renovation, he wrote to us that he guaranteed the work, and told us the town signed off on all aspects of our job and he got all the permits necessary for our job. Unfortunately for us, we trusted him. Fast forward and we have come to find they did not have all the permits, and the town did not sign off on many aspects of our job. We have a letter from the Arlington Building Inspector stating that the Conneely Contracting did not have all the permits and the Town did not sign off on multiple aspects of our job. There were many other issues with the work, but one of the major structural issues was that Conneely Contracting lowered our basement floor but never re-supported the newly exposed foundation, which has made our basement foundation unsafe, unstable and at risk for local collapse per structural engineer report. The unsupported foundation was concealed behind a wall and not discovered until after the time statue ran out. Another major issue is that our large front retaining wall kept cracking, but they came back to patch up the wall multiple times within the time frame that we were eligible to take legal action. Since they were coming back to fix the wall, we weren’t going to sue them. But the second the “clock” ran out, they stopped coming to patch up the wall. That is when we learned from the building department that Conneely Contracting needed to have an engineer on board to design the wall in order to get a permit, but Conneely never had an engineer, which means he never got a permit, which means the Town never signed off on the retaining wall. The wall was deemed “structurally inadequate” per engineer’s report which is why the wall kept cracking, stones falling out, pavers on steps collapsing inwards. It’s very sneaky that Conneely Contracting came to fix the wall multiple times during the eligible window we had to take legal action, but then left us high and dry once he was legally “off the hook”. Save yourself the time, stress, and legal fees and go with another contractor. It’s very telling, how someone responds when something goes wrong, go with a contractor that will take some accountability, when they are at fault regardless of how long it has been.

I had the pleasure of working with the Conneely team on an extensive basement remodel, removing walls, HVAC, bathroom, etc.The entire team was great to work with from my initial interaction with Marty and his foreman Eric and throughout the entire process. Everyone was kind, professional, skilled and very responsive to my concerns and requests. I would recommend them to any one looking for a local contractor.

We contracted with Conneely Contracting for a home remodel back in 2017-2018. Conneely Contracting was professional and always upfront with the process and timing of the Job. Conneely took the time to listen and provide feedback with their expert opinion. Also, during the work; They were flexible and understood the urgency of getting finished in a timely fashion. I would recommend Conneely to anyone who is looking for reputable work.

We had an overwhelmingly positive experience with the our house extension project carried out by Conneely Contracting Inc in the heart of Arlington back in 2019.
The project manager, Eric, whose dedication and expertise were paramount to the project's success, deserves the highest accolades. From the outset, Eric exhibited remarkable organization and communication skills.
Not only was the project completed on schedule, but the flexibility demonstrated in adjusting timelines according to our needs was truly commendable. The quality of the work delivered surpassed all expectations. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and commitment to perfection were evident in every aspect of the project.
The house extension seamlessly blends with the existing structure, and the final result is a testament to Conneely Contracting's commitment to excellence.
All the workers (carpenters/plumbers/electricians etc) arrived promptly and maintained a respectful and organized work environment throughout the project's duration.
I wholeheartedly recommend Conneely Contracting to anyone seeking a top-notch contractor for their construction needs and Eric and team have earned our highest respect and gratitude!!!

Partnered with Marty Conneely and his crew to complete a full home restoration and refurbishment of a wonderful property located in Arlington Heights – the results are stunning, the craftsmanship exceeded expectations and the service and support by his Team throughout the project were exceptional (we lived in property throughout the project). In the end Conneely Contracting gave new life our 1905 home by incorporating modern technology and building materials into a seamless design to accommodate today’s family lifestyles. The results speak for themselves. This was an extensive, once in a lifetime restoration project where quality and craftmanship mattered. We interviewed over a dozen design/build contractors and chose Marty because of his straight, no-nonsense approach – we agreed with a handshake. Trust, integrity, service, quality, craftsmanship, value – Marty and his Team delivered.

We can’t say enough good things about Conneely Contracting! We love our new kitchen and the entire project has drastically improved our quality of life. Everyone was professional, skilled, knowledgeable and they were always on time. They were able to finish the entire project quicker than they projected. We really appreciated the hustle from everyone leading up to the holidays!

Our 20 Newport Street Condo Association contracted Conneely Contracting to rebuild our front porch and to re-shingle the entire home. They also replaced all of the trim around the doors and windows with the newest and best products available keeping the two family looking historically correct. They always showed up when they said they would and paid very close attention to detail on the plans we provided to them. Their pricing was very reasonable and they did a lot of little extra things that were needed without charging extra. We liked them so much that we had them back to repair our garage door frames and foundation work. I highly recommend them as they have the experience and knowledge of every kind of home project that would ever need to be done.

We recently completed an extensive kitchen renovation by Martin Conneely and his team. We had an excellent experience from start to finish. His employees as well as his subs were always professional, knowledgeable, creative, and reliable. The project was completed in a timely manner even though we added more projects after our initial agreement. We would highly recommend Conneely to all. We are also grateful for Martin's incredibly generous commitment over many years to a local non-profit, The Children's Room, which provides caring grief support for children, teens, and families. Martin is a class act and gives back to his community. Kim and Mike Cayer

We have done numerous projects with Conneely Contracting over the years: adding a second bathroom, building a third floor dormer, finishing our basement, and adding a second floor addition for a larger kitchen. The Conneely team has always been kind, professional, and responsive. They did beautiful work, completed it in a timely manner, and were always on budget. We are so happy with the multitude of ways they have helped make our house a home we love!

We've worked with Conneely Contracting on several projects, the first being an extensive addition/remodel to our home. Marty's vision and recommendations steered us away from our initial design and delivered exactly the space and design details that we needed to fully enjoy our space with our growing needs. Our family of five lived in the home during this extensive renovation, which Marty and his team made entirely bearable. The team crafted a temporary kitchen from the demoed materials from our kitchen and thought of other accommodations to help make the co-habitation possible. This attention to detail carried over to every aspect of our project. The space was left spotless at the end of each day, and every member of the team was professional, respectful, responsive and courteous, including to our young children and dog. The finished project delivered exactly what we needed and then some, with high quality throughout. Since then, the team has also helped us with smaller projects, including roof and exterior repairs. They are consistently responsive, timely and courteous. I highly recommend.

I’ve hired Marty and his team on multiple occasions from renovating a kitchen to remodeling/reconfiguring our first floor to include a new full bathroom, bedroom and 1/2 bath. Very professional, great communication and fabulous work! I couldn’t be happier with their work from start to finish and I highly recommend them to everyone.

We hired Conneely Contracting for a large remodel in 2017. The original plan was to expand and modernize the kitchen, but Martin had lots of great recommendations about how to best use our space.

The project ended up being a large one and lasting about 7 months. During the project the communication was excellent. Workers showed up when they said they would, the job site was left in clean condition every day, and most importantly of all the work was of very high quality.

Martin and his team run a tight ship and I am extremely satisified with the work peformed on this latest project (one of many that I've used Conneely Contracting for over the years).

Anyone rating this business as less than five stars clearly has no idea about the construction industry and what good quality craftmanship looks like. I've posted some pictures here to show how great our project came out.

Can't wait for the next project with Martin & Team.

Review for Conneely Contracting Inc.

We are extremely pleased with our projects with Conneely Contracting. This year (2023) they created two new bathrooms for our home, transforming a pantry off the kitchen into a beautiful bathroom with shower AND completely updating our aging upstairs bathroom.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, and this review includes six photos which show their beautiful work. What the pictures cannot tell is how friendly and respectful the workers were, what good communication we had, and what a pleasure it was to have the team members in our home.

What a great team! Conneely Contracting works with an amazing group of long-term subcontractors, and each brought their professionalism, expertise, and pride in a job well done. Everyone involved -- the demolition team, the tile crew, the wonderful plumbers, the electricians, the carpenters, and the finish painters -- did an outstanding job. We were especially grateful for the design and project management by Eric and Caitlin, and the carpentry expertise and attention to detail by John.

We are saving up for another large project for our home, and look forward to working with Conneely Contracting again!

Connelly Contracting did an excellent job with our complete bathroom remodeling. We converted our tub/shower to a walk in shower, replaced the vanity, new electrical, new plumbing, new toilet, new window, new tile floor and new tiling throughout the shower. Their staff is very professional and their subcontractors are excellent. They are neat, always cleaning up at the end of each day. The entire process went smoothly. Their recommended supply team did a great job at guiding us through picking out our plumbing fixtures, vanity, sink, countertops and tiling for the floors and walls. Overall we would highly recommend the Connelly team for your next home project.

We hired McDonald Contracting to remodel our kitchen. Overall it was a great experience. They were professional, communicated well, and were very responsive to our questions and requests. We have worked with other contractors on significant home projects and realize McDonald Contracting is reliable and a standout contractor.

I am extremely satisfied with the work McDonald Contracting did for me. They were one of only 3 (out of 8) businesses to either get back to me and/or offer a time frame of doing the work relatively quickly as opposed to waiting at least 6 months. They were also the most reasonably priced. It wasn't a big job - replace the bathroom ceiling which was damaged by a cracked pipe in the condo above me, repaint the walls & ceiling, buy & stain a new door, and install new flooring in the adjacent hallway. They communicated with me almost every day about who was coming and when to expect them and were responsive when minor problems arose. I would highly recommend them.

Eddie and his team at McDonald Contracting are so wonderful to work with! They have done a handful of projects for us, most notably our kitchen renovation, and we have been so happy with their work and professionalism. They did everything with our reno: removed a wall to open up our kitchen to the family room, added a beautiful custom island and dry bar area that we got to design, new lighting, counters and painting. They were even able to reuse our old cabinets seamlessly so we could save some money, and kept the house clean and organized throughout. I immediately felt comfortable with and trusted each worker - to the point where our dog even got excited when they showed up! Eddie is super attentive, responsive and just a pleasure to work with. He is honest and fair and dealt with my (many) last minute changes mid-project with complete patience and understanding. I recommend McDonald Contracting to anyone I know and will certainly have them do work for us again in the future!

Ed and his team were a pleasure to work with on our exterior project. They were extremely responsive, professional and committed to high quality work. Ed did a great job of really listening and working with us to plan the project in a way that accomplished what we were looking for at a reasonable cost. We'd be happy to work with him again and recommend him to others.
