This was a small job, but the Curren crew were prompt, knowledgeable, and flexible regarding constraints and owner quirks. Tom B was a good initial ambassador, Rob was there when needed to manage changes needed when some rot was found, and Eder and his coworker were great - industrious, cheerful and trustworthy workers.

We initially hired Tom Curren Companies to complete carpentry work on our triple-decker and were satisfied with their approach. Based on that positive experience, we chose to proceed with them for a painting project. Unfortunately, this second phase did not meet our expectations.

There were several non-weather-related delays, and communication throughout the process was inconsistent. For example, they canceled on the very day the project was scheduled to begin, stating they needed to push the date back. Despite this, the project manager showed up unannounced the following morning while I was taking my daughter to school, blocking our shared driveway to randomly cut plywood. When I asked what was going on, he explained he needed more time to finish something before the first day, causing unnecessary disruption and delay to my morning.

On what was supposed to be the final day of the project, we were told work would be completed early in the week. However, we were canceled on multiple times. Finally, we received a text message at 9:00 PM on a Wednesday night stating they planned to arrive at 7:30 AM the next morning. I had already gone to bed and was woken by repeated calls requesting that I open the door so they could begin using power tools—at 7:30 AM!

During the optional final walk-through, I pointed out that our door had not been finished. I was then informed that we would need to purchase the paint and materials ourselves, as the specific color was not considered their responsibility—even though paint was included in the project scope. They did not guide us through the process, the required that we go to Home Depot website and pick a stain!

If you live in Boston or in a neighborhood with closely situated homes, I strongly recommend thinking twice before hiring this company due to the lack of reliable scheduling and respectful communication.

Given this experience, we’ve decided not to move forward with Tom Curren Companies for the additional project we had originally inquired about.

Tom Curren and his AMAZING team of professionals updated our very outdated, small master bathroom. The communication piece of the project, spearheaded by project manager Clive Davis was outstanding! He was the rockstar of this project. We were told at the beginning of each week what the plan was for the week and each morning received a text from Clive regarding arrival times of the subcontractors to our home. Design consultation was incredibly helpful through services by Jan Luchetti and the tile, vanity and shower trim all came together beautifully. Special shout out to Susan Tuller and Tom Curren for their professional expertise and personal touches along the way. Highly recommend!

We have used Tom Curren Companies for many years for all of our interior and exterior painting and carpentry needs. They recently rebuilt our screen porch which needed structural repairs and a new floor and screens. While here, they were also happy to do a number of minor repairs around the house. The company is great to work with because they are always candid about what is required and communicate well when unexpected conditions are found. The supervisor for the project, Gilmar, was focused upon giving us the very best service, and the work was extremely done well and on time. Their crew is always great to have around, and in these COVID times, they were careful to practice protective measures.

We highly recommend Tom Curren Companies to anyone who wants a solid, dependable remodeling and painting contractor who delivers what is promised, on time and on budget. We were met with a few unexpected issues at the house as the project was underway including a burst water pipe, and the Tom Curren team was able to address all issues in a timely manner while keeping us on track. We will definitely use them again on our future projects!

Looking for quality work and a great design team I would hire Tom Curren. We remodeled our kitchen and took down a weight-bearing wall to transform the look and feel of our home, all thanks to the great team here. Victoria was fantastic with design and was able to create a vision we would have never thought of for our space. Mark was our project manager and he was excellent at communicating with us and was always honest when we hit roadblocks (which happens in all remodels, especially during the pandemic). All the workers on the team were polite, did quality work, and were very tidy (they always cleaned up after their work). Wonderful company and worth the time and money.

Had the guys over to give us a quote for some work. Appreciated their time and attention. After they left, they would not give a quote without (a) coming back in person and (b) having all members of the household present. Explanation given was that "we've had circumstances where someone signed a contract and their spouse got mad and we had to undo it and refund the money." Um ... that's not how contracts work. Obviously they get to decide how they want to do business but ... its weird.

I have owned 6 homes over the course of the last 45 years. Recently, the water line on my refrigerator broke leading to severe flooding in my finished basement and some damage in my kitchen. After the remediation from the water damage I needed to have my basement and kitchen repaired. One of my close friends recommended Tom Curren as he had painted their home around 25 years ago with the disclaimer that they may be a little more expensive but they get it right. I got three estimates and theirs was about 10% higher than the others but I have never had an easier contracting experience. From beginning to end they did things even better than I could have imagined and my former kitchen and basement family room are far more lovely than I could have ever imaged. They literally went above and beyond my expectations to such a degree that I will bring them back for a main floor remodel soon. Thanks to all members of the team. You were all amazing.

We had a marvelous experience working with the Tom Curren team. The job consisted of painting the exterior of the house and several small carpentry projects. We appreciated the regular correspondence from Rob, the project manager. We especially appreciated meeting with Tom at the outset to discuss options. The billing process was efficient and the guys were lovely to work with and extremely neat. The house looks great. Overall, it was a really satisfying experience and one that we would recommend to other others. Jeff Katz

We remodelled two bathrooms which were 30 yrs old. The process was very organized and professional. There are extensive preconstruction meetings with a team, which I have not had with previous contractors. These meetings were very helpful, and helped to stimulate thought. We were also set up with an interior decorator, which was very helpful. The construction itself came in on time and on budget. There were no unexpected surprises. The workmanship is excellent. The subs were great, especially Jesus the tiler. Overall, I would use this company again without hesitation.

Tom Curren Companies recently painted my living room and re-plastered the ceiling. It is beautiful! Beyond the excellent work done on time and with great care, the project manager Rob was able to fix the front door (which opens right into the living room).
Our previous contractor hung that door 26 years ago. There was always something amiss. The door knob needed to be replaced once and it still was not working well. When we returned from vacation to find the great paint job the front door was painted shut. Big problem. We managed until Rob arrived and he saw that it had never been screwed into the door frame properly! He quickly went to his truck, got what he needed, returned and fixed it in no time. Now it is actually a pleasure to open and close the front door. This concrete example typifies my experiences with Tom Curren Companies over the past 6 years. They have done many jobs, all extremely well done with great care and consideration for me as well as the house. My husband and I are old and I honestly feel that we would not be able to stay living in this home that we both love if we didn't have the skillful and caring help this company provides! I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone.

I was looking for kitchen remodeling project for my small kitchen in the old condo unit. Tom Curren Company provided a reasonable price with all-in-one service -which save a lot of hassle and worrying for a first-time home owner. Every interaction with the team was genuinely delightful.

Throughout the remodeling journey, my home was not just a construction site; it was a living space undergoing transformation. Jeff, my dedicated project manager, not only ensured the delivery of high-quality work but also took the extra step to maintain the daily cleanliness of my residence post their work. The entire spectrum of the project, spanning plumbing, electrical work, cabinets, backsplash, flooring, and painting, was executed with an unwavering commitment to professionalism.

They are very experienced with the issues of the old house remodeling. Additionally, they demonstrate high levels of professionalism, friendliness, respect, and an exceptional attention to detail. I experienced great satisfaction in having them handle my kitchen remodeling, and I enthusiastically suggest considering them for various home remodeling projects.

Tom Curren Companies’ staff is skilled and professional from first contact thru completion of the punch list. The contract was detailed and complete in what was and wasn’t included in the project, including price and assumptions. Curren’s day-to-day onsite project leader was an excellent communicator with us (the client) and the subcontractor tradesmen. Evident was a strong Curren team working in the background. We are very pleased with the final result.

Our house was built before indoor plumbing. Our family bathroom upstairs had a clawfoot tub and hardwood floors - And they weren’t nice hardwood floors. They were hardwood floors that were put into the house in 1895 and have been worn ever since.

When the plumbing that had been put in the house in the early 1900s finally started to fail last year, we knew that we didn’t want to fix that plumbing. We knew that we needed to renovate the entire bathroom strip it down to studs and rebuild.

We had a few contractor groups in and received a variety of bids. The bids fell into two categories: the ones who would do it all for you, and the ones that, in short, wouldn’t. Tom Curren’s bid came in at the higher end, but their presentation of how their teams worked together and the services they offered made the price reasonable.
Contractors at the low end were half the price, but the contractors told us that we should buy “the stuff”, put it in the garage, and they’d put it in the bathroom for us. Since we knew we were ripping up 100 year old floors and we had no idea what we would find under them, we were pretty sure that we did not know what “stuff” was going to be needed. The low-end contractors didn't have relationships with plumbers. They didn't have the seamless teams.

The Tom Curren team took care of us from start to finish. They helped us with planning what the bathroom would look like at the end and the fixtures and cabinets. They gave us showroom contacts to look for the tubs and the sinks and the vanities and the toilets that we wanted. When we were headed to the showroom I could have sworn that I had no opinions about showerheads. I was shocked at how many opinions I actually had.

Sure, enough, when work started, we found surprises in the walls and under the floors. Apparently, when plumbing was added to the bathroom, The plumbers of the day cut 60% to 70% through weight-bearing joists. The Tom Curren team spent entire days working with our city inspectors to find a solution that would bring us up to code. Even with the scope of the issue, the change order was only for about $200 to buy the additional parts. All the extra work with the city inspector was just part of our contract.

Our bathroom held more than one surprise, but the cost stayed constant. Our project manager, John, kept us updated daily on what was happening with inspections and plumbers and carpenters and tilers. There was a lot of work done, and we always felt that we were kept up-to-date. Watching the bathroom come together was lovely.
John even noticed imperfections that I had missed entirely and made sure they were fixed without me saying anything.

It was a massive project and losing the use of a bathroom is always going to be inconvenient, but it was never stressful due to the project management, communication, cleanliness, and genuine kindness from everyone who stepped foot in my house. I cannot recommend Tom Curren strongly enough.

Tom Curren and team have done amazing work in my condo. They are professional, detail oriented, and excellent project managers. I would choose them to help me with any home project and can’t recommend them highly enough.

5+++. Tom Curran Companies was outstanding to work with from start to finish. Over the years, we have worked with many different contractors, and we can honestly say that the team at Tom Curran Companies is the best of the best. They are highly professional, communicative, and responsive and quite simply, just a pleasure to work with. Our project stayed on track because they showed up on time and addressed unforeseen issues with a solution-oriented approach. They take great pride in the work that they do and this is evident in the quality of the painting, patching, floors, and repairs we had done. We will not hesitate to use them again for the next phase of our renovations - 2 bathrooms.
