I've worked with Offshoots and Kate Kennen in a personal and professional setting, and am very pleased with the results. At my house, Offshoots re-designed and re-graded a weed-filled side yard into an attractive and useable space. At work, Offshoots was the landscape architect for new affordable homes that my organization owns. In both scenarios Kate and her firm had a great instinct for balancing vision and cost, listening to me and my wife (or co-workers, depending on the setting), and seeing through a quality execution.

Bonus for home design: Offshoots is also capable of undertaking grading and softscape installation on its own. It's rare to find a high-design firm that's also able to install its own design.

Offshoots created a beautiful landscape at my business that is low maintenance and uses little water. We are very happy with the results. It is not often that you find a landscape business run by someone with a degree from Harvard and Cornell. Great experience with both Kate who did the design work and Joe who managed the installation.

Offshoots created a design for our urban (Brookline) backyard and front garden, installed it, and now maintain it. I work with Kate and Kit. I enjoyed the process of deciding what it should look like, where Kate provided excellent advice. The team that installed the gardens was friendly and knowledgeable. It happened in August, and the team checked the plants several times over the next few weeks to make sure everything was thriving. The few things that didn't make it were replaced before I asked. Now they are maintaining the spaces, and it's not just cleanup but also looking at plant health and whether they are or aren't working in the space. Kit and her team are very helpful. I am happy to recommend them.

We hired Offshoots Inc. a few years ago for a complete landscape redesign, and working with Terry was an absolute pleasure. From our first consultation, Terry took the time to truly understand our vision and the unique characteristics of our wooded property.

One of the things I appreciated most was Terry's thoughtful approach to phasing the project. Rather than overwhelming us with costs, he designed a comprehensive plan in two phases that allowed us to spread out the investment while still achieving a cohesive overall design. The first phase has been completed, and the results exceeded our expectations—the modern stepping stone pathway, horizontal slat privacy screens, and carefully selected plantings have completely transformed our outdoor spaces. The design beautifully balances contemporary aesthetics with the natural wooded setting.

We're eagerly waiting to complete phase two, but in the meantime, Offshoots' horticulture team initiated by Kate has been maintaining our plantings and beds. It's been wonderful to have that continuity—they know the design intimately and keep everything looking pristine.

Originally seated on an expansive lawn, we desired a biodiverse and productive landscape, including a native meadow.
