    Recently my home furnace stopped blowing hot air. As I always try to use local businesses, I decided to call Burke & Sons to help me with the problem. I set up a time on a Monday and 2 technicians came over to my house to do the diagnostic. They spent almost an hour trying to find the problem and were not sure what it was. They called a "smart" guy in the office and they were told by him that the problem with the unit was the control board that needed to be replaced ($125 the visit). They sent me an estimate for the replacement of the board ($750) and I approved. They ordered the part and came back on the following Monday. Jim (the owner) came to do the replacement and I let him do the work. After he finished, he said that the board did not need to be replaced and he had replaced some other parts and that should work for a while but told me that the whole furnace needed to be replaced as it is 20 years old and had reached the limit of usage and charged me $291 for the visit. 3 hours later, the furnace stopped blowing hot air again and I called them but they were closed. The next day I called the office and told them what had happened and they set up a time to come back and "fix" the problem the next day (Wednesday). The next day I left the door of the house unlocked for the technician and went to work. The technician came, replaced more parts and left. I got home from work, the unit was working and they sent me another bill for $815. 2 days later, on Friday, I got home from work and the house was cold and the furnace was blowing cold air. The next day I called the office and they were closed but I used the "emergency line" and spoke with a technician and he offered to come and take a look. He worked on the unit and got it to work but again informed me that the unit needed to be replaced as it had reached its life limit. He said he'd talk to the owner and send me an estimate to replace the unit. Later that day the furnace stopped working again. I then decided to call another HVAC company and have them check what the problem was. A very knowledgeable technician came and checked the unit and said that the problem was the control board that needed to be replaced and the gas valve. I authorized him to order the 2 parts and 2 days later he came back and installed both parts. The furnace has been working perfectly since and it's been at this moment I'm writing this review 2 weeks. The technician from the second company told me the same thing about the replacement of the unit at some point in the future and I asked him to give me an idea of price for future reference. I received the estimate from Burke & Sons for the replacement of my furnace: $9,315.00 - $1,106.00 (previous 2 visits and parts replaced) = $8,209.00. Estimate from the company that fixed the problem $6,500.00. As a conclusion, it may have been an isolated case that caused me some aggravation and 3 weeks without heat in my house with freezing temperatures outside. Unfortunately, "I" would not recommend Burke & Sons to anyone I know... and will never use them again.
