If you are looking for quality workmanship, experience, someone highly knowledgeable with an unusually broad skill set that will work hard, pay attention to details and make sure the job is done right, call Jack at Strong Builders. If on the other hand you want poor workmanship, poor quality, workers with a bad attitude and a lack of experience, look elsewhere.
We had a number of projects ranging from putting in dropped ceilings, a new doorway, insulating and putting up sheetrock on walls, and replacing large areas of ceilings that had been ripped out during mold and water damage remediation, and more. One of the things that most impressed us was his ability to not only grasp what we wanted done, but to have a better grasp of it than we did. He repaired formerly shoddy work to bring everything up to code. In every way, he, and the results, exceeded our expectations.
After discussing what we wanted we received a detailed, itemized quote, stating everything he would be doing and the specific materials he would be using, right down to how many coats of spackle would be used and sanded. We have had numerous quotes for work before, but none this well detailed. We knew how much sheet rock, paint, molding, how many ceiling tiles and even how much time he would need for prep before we signed a contract.
Pros:
• Excellent work ethic
• Reliable, returned phone calls, always let us know when he would be working and if something came up and he had to change plans we were always kept informed.
• Trustworthy, I was very comfortable having him work in my home even when no one was home.
• Left all work areas clean and tidy.
• Respectful, if we made a request he never questioned it. As an example, we have several dogs, one of which is a recent rescue and is still very much a flight risk. Jack was aware of this and went to great lengths to not frighten her and to make sure that she did not have a chance to get loose.
• Above all, quality work and an excellent eye for detail. We had no idea that what we were asking for would look so amazing!
Cons:
• None that I am aware of
Would we hire Strong Builders again? Definitely, and we are looking forward to doing so again.

Jack is a true professional. The craftsmanship of our new deck and slider installation is above and beyond what our expectations were. Strong Builders is now at the top of my list and will be highly recommended to family and friends.

Jack and his crew did the finish carpentry work for my house in Auburn. All the work was of top quality. He met all scheduling deadlines and the job ran very smoothly under his supervision. He is a true craftsman and professional.

We decided to renovate one of our bathrooms that was in desperate need of an update. We engaged with several contractors to get an idea as to cost, start date, materials used, and related information. We narrowed down our search to Strong Builders and another contractor and checked references.
Luckily, we went with Strong builders. Our experience with Strong was outstanding. The job started on time, was within budget, the work site was cleaned up every day, Strong coordinated the inspections, subcontractors and material delivery so that there were no delays in the work schedule. Jack Whealan is a seasoned professional and perfectionist and the quality of the workmanship exceeded our expectations.
We have several other projects on the to do list for 2016-2017 and we are going to use Strong Builders. We would recommend that if you are looking for a contractor go with Strong. You will not be disappointed.

We hire Jack from Strong Builders to build our attached two car garage with a mud room in between the main structure. We had been researching and talking to contractors for about a year when we finally decided to go with him and I’m glad we did. He doesn't push for unnecessary extras or sell you anything you don't need. He is very professional, punctual and responsive, from beginning to end, any unexpected modifications throughout the project, he done it well and effectively! He also cleaned up the area every day which you never feel messy during the construction. He pays every details of his work and completed the construction with quality results. We enjoy our new additions every single day from his well-done job. We’ll definite hiring Strong Builders for future work!

Jack built an addition over our existing deck. I've worked with many contractors and Jack sets himself apart with his professionalism and integrity. He's a pleasure to work with, solves problems creatively and is a true craftsman. He does what he says he will do when he says he'll do it. Working with him has been a refreshing change.

I haven't had the pleasure of working with Jack. However, when I emailed, he wrote right back and although he was fully booked, he actually helped me find another contractor to do the job. Many other contractors didn't write back or disappeared after saying they would take the job. Just wanted to thank Jack for his professionalism, communication and his helpfulness!

We had some damage from the winter that we didn't realize until we had our granite countertops installed. They cracked twice! We started to dig deeper to find a problem. We realized that our deck was pulling away from the house and a floor joist was bumping up into the kitchen making our cabinets uneven.
We got several quotes from contractors. Jack was the ONLY contractor that discussed ways to solve the problem, so it wouldn't happen again next winter! He took his time, he looked outside, inside, under and over. He took pictures as well. We knew we were going to hire him even before we received the estimate. We were surprised when his estimate was the lowest!
Strong Builders outlined the remedy for our situation which included pulling the deck back towards the house, reinforcing the floor joists with better bolts, re-leveling our kitchen cabinets, digging new footings for our deck and reinforcing our deck. All of this was done with painstaking care!. Each and every kitchen cabinet needed to be leveled by creating small pieces of wood at varying angles to create an overall level surface. This looked impossible to me! Other contractors told us we needed new cabinets because it wasn't worth it to fix. Jack worked with our granite company personally to be sure he understood what they said the problem was.
Jack does not try to up-sell you either. He is highly professional in the fact that he fixes what needs fixing and works around what is structurally sound. When he started work, I was a little worried about my basement rug getting dirty, but to my surprise- Jack covered the entire area where he was working. He is a very clean worker and takes pride in his work.
We are so happy to know that going into this winter, we will not experience the same problem. We are thrilled to have our kitchen counters installed! When we need more work done at our home, we will definitely hire Jack and Strong Builders!

Jack did an excellent job on a deck refinishing project that included new composite decking and a decorative railing. He was professional with absolutely no issues from start to finish. I would certainly hire Strong Builders again should the need arise

This past year, Jack remodeled our summer cottage in Cape Cod. He does fantastic work, - my job included framing, trim work, lots of tongue and groove ceilings and walls, wood floor repair, sheetrock & taping, window replacement, exterior siding & trim, hanging cabinetry, replacing interior doors, mounting door and cabinet hardware, and building an interior staircase. (I'm sure I'm forgetting something.) Not only is Jack a skilled craftsman, he is an excellent project manager and business person. This was extremely important given I was living in another state while the remodel was underway. He kept me up to date on everything with phone calls, texts, and pictures. His work plan is thought out and well executed meaning he saves time and money. His invoices are prompt, detailed and accurate. Also, Jack knows the applicable building codes and follows best practices to ensure the job is done right. (You think you would get this with most people you hire to do work in your house, but I had bad experiences despite trying to stay on top of other contractors.) Jack brought great ideas to my project, and offered suggestions where appropriate to improve my design. And when he was finished, there was no punchlist to chase after him for. He finished everything in the work scope before packing up his truck. Impressive. I’m grateful for Jack and Strong Builders.

Jack did an incredible job renovating a kitchen, dining room and bathroom for us. The house is very old so you never know what you will encounter when you start tearing down walls, but Jack fixed every problem very responsibly and professionally with results that far surpassed our expectations.
