I have been working with Tyrone since 2018. We started with a remodel of my personal residence and have grown into multiple investments through out metro Detroit. Always informative, fair, professional, and most importantly communicates.

We asked Tyrone Smith of Smith Designer Construction to give us a quote for converting our bathtub to a walk-in shower, to replace all of our bathroom fixtures, and to replace the counter top on the vanity. This was after having almost accepted a quote from one of those "one day" bathroom remodel services - we got cold feet about the quality of the installation and the selection of materials. With Tyrone, we had full input on material selection, and he even met us at a couple supplier locations (plumbing supply and ceramic tile supply) to go over our selections and to ensure that the suppliers extended us Tyrone's contractor discount. The installation took longer than the "one day" services. We knew up front that would be the case. Since Tyrone opted not to install the glass shower door - leaving that task to his able subcontractor Howie Glass - there was some coordination time involved with the glass contractor. Part of that was the fact that the glass contractor could not measure the door space until the tile work was done (we all wanted the glass doors to fit!), and could not order the shower doors from the manufacturer until the space was measured. That resulted in built in delays that were not Tyrone's fault. Tyrone pulled numerous permits with our city's building department, and each one required a built in waiting for the inspector to come. One of the inspections required some drywall to come down so the inspector could see in the wall, so there was a bit of rework required. A further complication was that unfortunately the tile installer made a serious error. While in general his work was skilled and beautiful, he somehow made the marble threshold (on which the shower door would be installed) slant away from the shower, and not toward the shower. Water goes downhill, so when water fell on the threshold it drained onto the bathroom floor. Not good. We brought that to Tyrone's attention, and he paid the glass subcontractor to remove the door, arranged for the tile guy to remove the threshold (an extremely painstaking process executed so as to avoid chipping or breaking the marble) and reinstall it with a slope toward the shower, and then paid the glass folks to put the shower door back on. Tyrone told us he would not be using that tile installer again for future projects. We have been using our updated bathroom for a while now, and are very happy with the results, and with Tyrone's responsiveness and attention to details. In short, Smith Designer Construction made us a beautiful, functional, bathroom at a reasonable cost and almost on schedule. Tyrone was very professional and fun to work with.

I enthusiastically recommend Smith's Designer Construction for remodels! I had them remodel my kitchen in Jan/Feb 2026 and they were great to work with. Tyrone, the owner, is very responsive. If he wasn't able to answer my call, he called back within the hour. He finished the project two days early. He answered all my questions throughout the process, and explained everything to me so that I could understand (I am an older widow). There were a couple of problems with my electrical (the house is 80 years old) and with the plumbing. Tyrone showed me the problem and fixed it. There was, of course, a fee for the extra work, but it was reasonable. The overall cost for the remodel was very reasonable. The workers were polite and professional. They worked hard and did a great job. I was very happy with the final product. My kitchen looks amazing! I have had many compliments! I intend to use his company to remodel my laundry room and make it a combo bathroom/laundry!
