Reviews of local pros in Cologne, Minnesota

We worked with Magnolia on a very complicated project of replacing a massive failing timber retaining wall (original to our home built in the 70s) with a more natural landscape of boulder outcroppings that now blend into the natural beauty of our hilly landscape.

From the get-go, I appreciated that Tom and Katie were creative and thoughtful in their approach and were willing to listen to my vision, which was something i didn’t get from other contractors who quoted the project.

Our project was delayed due to a seriously rainy spring, but as soon as Magnolia started the project, they were committed to its completion and worked with me every step of the way. We are Jared super-fans, he was our boulder magician and spent nearly a month placing every boulder with his excavator like a massive jigsaw puzzle. He was incredibly thoughtful and helped us build a gorgeous fire pit area in the backyard. Happy and his team came in afterwards and did a great job completing the paver patio and plantings.

We hope to work with Magnolia again in the future! Thank you to everyone on the team for transforming our property into a yard that our kids now are able to play in, I can’t understate the positive imapact you have made on our home.

Thomas and Katie are great to work with and are open to ideas! They are honest and fair with their pricing. They were flexible and allowed us to do some of the small plant plantings. We are extremely happy with the patio and side walk. They delivered as promised! We plan to have Magnolia do our next landscaping project!

Another great project done by Magnolia! Took our idea of wanting something done around two evergreens and they created a dry creek bed with boulders! Couldn't be happier with their design mojo and their workmanship. Highly recommend!

We can’t be more pleased with our Landscape project with Magnolia. Starting with Design through to hardscape and plantings and lighting - the process was simple. Meeting with Katie around design and selections on through to Ramiro doing the implementation the communication and scheduling were flawless (Except for a rain day!). We could not be more excited for Spring to come and we can see everything bloom.

We would highly recommend Magnolia Landscape to anyone looking for quality design and personal attention.

Thanks again!

We hired Magnolia to take out our wood deck and replace it with a stone patio. All of our interactions with their team have been positive. Everyone has been incredibly nice to work with.
With the patio they were great at working with us to fit our budget and still have a beautiful finished product.
We were so impressed by their work, we hired them the next year for a landscaping project in our backyard. With a large hill we were having issues with runoff and weeds coming in under our fence. Again everyone was wonderful to work with and the full project was done in just a few days (much quicker than I expected).
Definitely recommend!

Magnolia Landscape provided creative design suggestions and worked diligently to complete our patio/garden revamp before the Minnesota weather turned cold. We love the results and look forward to enjoying the space in 2026. I enjoyed working with Tom and Katie, who incorporated my garden transplants into the new design. Antonio was an excellent site manager and paid attention to all the details. The new design is currently covered in snow, but I would love to show pictures in spring.

We couldn't be more pleased with our new front landscaping design and finished product. The Magnolia team was wonderful to work with from start to finish. They listened to our concerns and desires and came up with exactly what we hoped for in our end result. The design is fresh and up-to-date and has enhanced the overall look of the front of our house. The crew that worked on site--taking out the "old" and carrying out the plan to construct and plant the "new" were outstanding. They were experts in their field.. kind..and incredibly hard workers. We are very pleased with the entire Magnolia team of professionals, and highly recommend them--no matter whether your project is small or large.

We have worked with Tom and the Magnolia team for over 20 years on multiple projects. We have had nothing but positive results!

I had a great experience working with Magnolia. Tom was able to come out quickly after I called to provide ideas and an estimate. Katie was easy to work with on the overall project plan, design decisions and logistics. Plantings went in this fall and I'm excited to see how they look this spring.

Magnolia did a great job on our landscaping project. Katie and Thomas were great to work with during every step of the project - which went very smoothy. They installed new sod our backyard after re-grading the soil, installed some stone steps which turned out great, and had very helpful advice for new plantings. I would highly recommend them!

We had Magnolia Landscape and Design Co come out to help us with our backyard last summer. We didn't know exactly what we wanted so Katie and Tom came over and walked through the area with us, as we talked about how we would most use the space.

They removed an old patio, lots of weeds and dead grass and gave us an amazing new outdoor living space and fire pit area with gorgeous landscaping around it. We use the space constantly. The trees and florals that were planted last summer all survived the winter and came up even stronger this spring.

We are really happy with how everything turned out. Katie and Tom worked within our budget. We appreciated their flexibility when we added elements to the design during construction (we added one more tree, added one more fence portion, and removed a sun shade.)

Magnolia Landscaping is a company we would recommend (and have recommended!) to our friends.

Before and after photos below.

This is our second time using Magnolia for our landscaping and we couldn't be happier! They just completed an entire overhaul of our backyard - new patio, sport court, garden area, level play area, boulder steps/outcroppings, trees/plantings, landscape lighting and more! It was a complicated project with a lot of moving parts but they did a great job coordinating with the other various contractors for tree removal, irrigation, electrical, deck work, etc. Tom and Katie were great thought partners throughout the process - they always had great recommendations and creative solutions when challenges came up. Alberto and the whole crew were incredible - you can tell they really cared about the quality of the work. We were choosing between Magnolia and another top landscaping company but ultimately chose Magnolia for their outstanding designs and fair/transparent pricing - and we are so glad we did! We are excited to enjoy our new backyard this summer - thank you to the entire Magnolia team!

We had Magnolia completely transform our yard into a beautiful and usable space. Phase one of the project included a new patio and separate hot tub area wrapped in natural boulders. The project also included new paths at each end of the house to better reach the backyard. The spaces blend seamlessly together protecting the natural feel we were looking for.

Tom and Katie were great to work with and so very patient as we went through the design and materials selection process. Their ideas seemed endless as we navigated dozens of choices. Throughout the process, their input was invaluable, even covering areas of the project not overseen by them directly (i.e. a new deck and fence). The stars of the show were the crew who are at the top of their trade. It was amazing to see all of this completed in a matter of days with an impeccable attention to detail. We're looking forward to having them back to complete phase two. We can't recommend Magnolia enough!

Magnolia once again exceeded all expectations in terms of professionalism, communication, design, budget/cost, and ultimately a finished project that was perfect!
Tom & Katie are so great to work with regarding the planning, changes, staying within budget, and truly aligning to our goals. Their expertise is outstanding, so they are able to offer advice, both in plantings and hardscaping of patios, fire pits, boulders, etc.
They turned our backyard into a "park" with a gorgeous, high quality fire pit, cool "dry creeks" to channel water and break up the large mulch area, and a sand area that made our grandkids say WOW!
They also take into account drainage and even incorporated our existing drain tiles that were not working well. Basically, they are experts at EVERY aspect of landscaping and hardscaping.
Take a look at the pictures and you will see the intricate detail of the pavers cut to align with the boulders. Even the boulders themselves were specifically selected to allow extra seating around the fire pit, memorial garden area, and sand area. We didn't even ask for that, but they made it so cool by going the extra mile for us.
Tom & Katie were in constant communication with us and their work team. The team was hard working, meticulous, and so nice. In terms of cost, integrity, professionalism, and finished product, you will not find a better company.
We had them install a fire pit at our last house and it still looked like it was brand new years later when we sold the house. It clearly helped increase the value and appeal of our home when it was time to sell. We have referred Magnolia to our friends and now our grown children with their new homes. They truly are amazing people and do exceptional work!

From design to execution, Magnolia exceeded our expectations. They provided fantastic recommendations that helped us best utilize the space in our yard and created a clean, beautiful aesthetic. The plant selection was spot on, and everything looks healthy and vibrant (going into winter). The crew, led by Ramiro who was absolutely fantastic, was top-notch. They were kind, professional, and completed the project faster than estimated.

They are a small business, and working with them felt more personal, which we appreciated and enjoyed. Since this season was quite busy, though, there were times when communication was a little slow, but the final result was well worth it. Highly recommend!

Thomas and his crew did a great job with our multiple projects.
They were very efficient and always cleaned up when they were done for the day. They were very easy to work with and always showed up when promised. I highly recommend Magnolia Landscape.

I had the pleasure of working with Magnolia in the summer of 2024 for a backyard patio and fire pit area, and I couldn't be happier with the results! Tom and Katie were fantastic to work with—true professionals who brought my vision to life.

Tom kept me informed every step of the way, providing clear updates on the timeline and process, which I really appreciated. His communication was just as impressive as the craftsmanship. Katie did an excellent job selecting the perfect plants and truly listened to my ideas, making sure every detail fit seamlessly into the design.

The final result? A stunning outdoor oasis that exceeded my expectations. If you're considering a landscaping project, I highly recommend connecting with Tom and the Magnolia team!.

We could not have been happier with our decision to use Magnolia. They helped us design our backyard patio, fireplace and grill area, then their crews did an awesome job constructing it. They also excavation and tile work to address a commonly saturated area. They worked with us to get the patio we wanted at a price that was more than fair. We look forward to having them back to do additional landscaping projects around our house.

Absolutely top-tier landscaping company from start to finish. The leadership sets the tone for excellence — professional, responsive, and clearly committed to delivering high-quality results. You can tell right away that this company is built on strong values and attention to detail.

Their team of employees is just as impressive. Hardworking, respectful, and incredibly skilled, they showed up on time, communicated clearly, and treated our property like it was their own. The craftsmanship and care they put into every detail truly exceeded expectations.

If you’re looking for a landscaping company that combines outstanding leadership with a motivated, professional crew, this is the one. Highly recommend — we couldn’t be happier with the results!

"Magnolia has done a number of projects for us over the years abs have always done an A+ job every time. "We had them transform our backyard a few years ago to an area that is used for entertaining all the time. It is our little Paradise. They did a great job. I had them back again this summer to put in new landscape lights and I was very impressed, again, with the quality of work and the politeness of the workers. 5 star recommend." Their work is always top notch and their employees are professional and friendly. Highly recommended!"

We couldn't be happier with the transformation of our landscape by Magnolia! Their team designed and executed a unique and functional space that is truly beautiful - from the granite steps and rock wall in the front to the handset walkway that meanders to the back, along with new plantings throughout. Magnolia really listened to our needs and created a design that isn't just aesthetic but works perfectly for our property's layout. Highly recommend for anyone looking for high-quality craftsmanship and a beautiful result!

Jon and the crew are to work with, communication is great with his team . Not to mention a great bunch of people that are respectful of your property .
