Kuhl finished up doing a cedar roof restoration. They did an amazing job. It almost looks as good as it was when it was new (that was 15 years ago). What was a pleasant surprise was how they left everything spotless. After pressure washing, there was crud everywhere. By the time they left it was again, spotless.
Workers were conscientious and polite.
Highly recommend them.

We purchased a house with a cedar roof and 0 knowledge of cedar roofs. We didn’t know the condition of the roof or how to maintain it. The first bid we got said the roof was junk (never actually going on the roof) and he could replace it for $32,000! I found Kuhl from a google search and they came out, actually went on the roof, and wrote a detailed, professional report/quote. He walked us through what he saw and recommended taking down a small tree that damaging a corner of the roof. He, also, explained to us that we had very high quality shingles and they could last another 30 years with proper care. His quote included replacement of some shingles, power washing and treatment for a fraction of the price of replacing it. Note: the first company’s replacement bid was quoted with lower quality shingles than what was on the roof already!

We moved forward with the quote from Kuhl and worked with Brook to schedule everything. She was amazing! There were weather delays, but she let me know right away. She also helped me understand and schedule work to be done after our new siding was installed but before it was painted.. then helped to reschedule when those contractors took longer than expected. The men that came out covered our deck, furniture and landscaping so it would not be wrecked by debris from the power washing. I was extremely impressed with how well they cleaned up after (including spraying down windows).

We've had multiple contractors at our house this past year and the contractors that communicate and show attention to detail, like Kuhl, took so much stress off us as homeowners. Thank you Kuhl team! We will be calling you for other projects in the future!

We had Kuhl's work on a leaking sun room and some flashing that had come off during a storm. Tavo was the gentleman who did the work and he was wonderful! He was kind, explained everything he was doing and how long it would take him. Hope to use Kuhl's and work with Tavo again!

They are excellent. Brook, who took my phone call, followed through on everything she said that she would do. The two men who came over, Ben and Paul, are very pleasant people (like Brook). They arrived precisely at the time they said they would arrive. They know MUCH about roofs and exactly what they were doing. I have no hesitation recommending Kuhl, Ben, Paul and Brook and will use them again if any more work on my roof is needed.

I have had the opportunity to work with Kuhl Contracting on multiple occasions over the past 20 years. Steve Kuhl is truly the Cedar Shake Guru. I first met him on an insurance claim in 1998 when he confirmed to my satisfaction that I did not have any damage after a recent hail storm. He was the only estimator willing to actually go up on my steep pitch shake roof for a complete examination. Afterward, he took the time to educate me on what I needed to know and do to protect my cedar shake roofing into the future. Fortunately, I followed his advice.

Every few years Steve has come back for an inspection that has helped me maintain my cedar and get the maximum life out of my roof. Other houses in my neighborhood have not done the maintenance Steve recommended and they are in need of a full replacement at this time. Their roofs are deteriorating and leaking. According to a recent inspection, I anticipate at least 8 more years before having to consider replacing my roof. The time and cost for maintenance with Kuhl has been well worth it. I believe any other contractor would have pushed for the opportunity to replace my very expensive roof at the earliest opportunity instead of teaching me how to take care of it and get the maximum lifetime possible out of these materials. I found Steve to be honest and sincere in his advice and willingness to help.

In the process, Kuhl’s Contracting has done a variety of small repairs and other work in addition to maintenance. That includes replacing cracked roof vents and fixing a leaky garage heater exhaust vent that had been improperly installed by the original contractor. Kuhl installed a copper chimney cap in 2011 that is like a piece of artwork. Beautiful from the beginning, it now has a nice patina that complements both the house and roof. On additional projects I have found over these years that Kuhl’s pricing is very reasonable and they are great at providing customer service. I am able to communicate with his office staff and get prompt responses. I have Steve Kuhl’s direct email and cell phone if I need to talk with the boss. He typically answers and returns his own calls. A year ago I called him with a request that I anticipated paying for. Instead, he sent a crew to power wash an area of stucco that was stained and did not charge for it. I’ve never seen another contractor do actual work for free.

I highly recommend Steve Kuhl, Kuhl’s Contracting, and Kuhl Design & Build for any house remodeling and or roofing project. They have been dependable and done great work for me over these past 20 years.

Tavo from Kuhl's contracting worked on my cedar shake roof to remove leaves and debris before winter. He did an excellent job, safely and efficiently removing a lot of material that will help extend the life of the roof. I highly recommend!

Paul did an excellent job. And he is very pleasant to interact with. The job was completed on time, as promised. Paul took extra time to provide additional advice based on specificity of our roof and location of wires.

Excellent service! I called this morning for service to remove ice blocking my furnace vent on my roof in -15 degree weather. Ben and Paul were there almost immediately- not only did they remove the ice, they shoveled my roof, deck and walkway.......... above and beyond !!! We recently used Kuhl for cedar roof restoration. The process involved 3 steps - cleaning, shingle replacement & protective coating application. From the initial quote through out the entire process i have been extremely impressed with their professionalism, timeliness and workmanship. All of the employees involved were friendly, informative and really easy to have around. As you can imagine, the cleaning process of a cedar roof creates lots of mess, which they cleaned up as if they were never there. The employees (all of them) that i would like to thank & recognize are; Brooke, Carlos, Apo, Greg & Ben. I would not hesitate all Kuhl and all of these fine employees.

Tavos did a fabulous job restoring and rebuilding our dormers on our home. Some were in such terrible shape and he made them look brand new due to his workmanship. Pleasant to work with, extremely cordial, cleaned up each day and kept us informed of his schedule. Highly recommend!

We called Kuhl's for an estimate to replace the roof on our house and unattached garage. Luke came out, checked it all out and found that we needed some chimney repair also. He provided pictures of the repairs needed. That right there impressed me. Luke is an asset to the company he's honest, prompt to return calls and e-mails. Kuhl's Contracting did an outstanding job cleaning and restoring our cedar roof. Steve Kuhl and his crew were very knowledgeable and professional. They were the most reasonably priced out of 8 different bids and offered several levels of service to choose from. After researching cedar roofs and how to clean them, I felt that the method Kuhl's Contracting uses to clean cedar shingles is the safest for restoring and extending the life of a cedar roof.

I used Kuhl to rehab my cedar shake roof. The owner came out and inspected the roof and took pictures so I could see exactly what he saw. Ben and Greg came out to do the install and were terrific. Hardworking nice guys who cleaned up after the project and did a great job.

Kuhl contracting did a beautiful job of replacing my roof after hail damage. All details were attended to including new matching flashing around chimneys and new gutter guards. All personnel, including and under project manager Luis, were courteous, efficient and neat. Paul installed some HeatTape Pro on our roof and gutters and underground drain. It was drizzling and not the greatest conditions, but that didn't stop him. We were relieved that he could complete the work because we needed it done by a certain date. And we know how busy end of the season job scheduling can be.
He answered my many questions and did an all around great job. Looking forward to a winter without ice dams!

I've been using Kuhl's now for about 3 years. They have done really good work for me on my flat roofs. They have a very knowledgeable person in that area which is hard to find. Flat roofs are expensive but they don't rush you into anything and are happy to inspect and repair. When they do re-roof, the cost is reasonable and the work is done quickly. Their customer service is terrific!

Working with Steve Kuhl and his team was a pleasure. I got my cedar roof inspected and needed some repairs. Really professional and responded promptly every time I had to reach him. I was told by multiple real estate agents that Steve is THE expert in twin cities area on roofing, esp. the ones with cedar shakes, and they were right. He is very knowledgeable and it was a hassle free experience. I will recommend him highly.

We had a great time working with Kuhl on the replacement of our garage siding, and especially with Tavo, who performed all of the physical labor. He was timely and professional, and clearly was very knowledgeable on all of the skills required. When it was all said and done, we were left with beautiful cedar wood 4" lap siding on the detached garage that was tailored to match the siding style of our pre-1900 Victorian house. Tavo even inspected the remainder of the garage and let us know of the areas where maintenance work may be needed in the near future. Thank you Tavo and Kuhl!
