    I met with Justin in early fall of last year to do a full landscaping project for me from dirt to finish. He was courteous, professional, and responsive upon our initial meetings. He put together a comprehensive design plan, which would include landscaping, some hardscape and irrigation. Of the three companies I met with I felt most comfortable with Creative Landscape. The project started on time and was substantially completed on time. There were a couple small mishaps along the way, but nothing extraordinary. There are a couple of things I want point out about the experience. Although Justin‘s team seemed to knowledgeable they paid little attention to the details. I had over 7500 ft.² of sod laid over approximately 30 sprinkler heads, 7 of which were covered over with sod. They didn’t bother to take the time to run the systems to see that all of the sprinkler heads were running in their respective locations. I had to go back through and find the areas of sod that were bulging from water flowing underneath it cut a hole and pull the sprinkler heads through the top. Instead of using a proper plug and hose clamp at the end of the drip lines, they simply bent them over and put a hose clamp on the end which later slipped off. I woke up one morning to the sound of water rushing into my basement from an uncapped supply line that erodes the soil under my front porch. The valve box to this day still fills up with water when the sprinklers run and I cannot identify where the leak is coming from. The planter beds were filled with landscaping rock that has so much dirt and fines in the rock that weeds grow as though there’s no weed barrier. Several areas of the sod never took and died. Half of the plants died, probably because they weren’t receiving water from the drip lines that were open ended flooding my basement. The only tree growing in my front yard was inadvertently cut down and replaced with something a fraction of its size that also died. During the sprinkler line installation portion of the project they accidentally backed their walk behind tractor into the backyard, retaining wall, pushing the top of the wall out down towards the bottom and in an effort to get it out, made the damage to the wall worse. Fixing that wall was no small undertaking and I knew that it would take a couple of guys a couple of days to take the wall apart properly re-pack The reinforced stone and rebuild the wall. I’m not concerned with the fact that these problems occurred. My concern is that they were never addressed. These issues were brought to Justin’s attention towards the end or shortly after the project was substantially complete. At the time he told me that he was extremely busy, but he would come back and get these items fixed. As far as the damage to the retaining wall, the dead plants and the areas of sod that died we agreed that he would come back in the spring. With that I paid him in full on our agreed-upon contract price with the hopes that he would do as promised in the spring. As the spring time approached, I sent him a friendly reminder in an effort to get on his calendar early with a little response. I asked him one more time in late spring, and his last words to me were that he will get guys out to get these things taken care of. That was five months ago and I never heard back. I was left to take care of these issues on my own. In the end it’s not whether or not you win the race it’s how you finish. The first 90% is what’s expected….it’s the last 10% that is crucial for achieving excellence or success. Update: 3/7/24 I never did receive a response with regards to any of my concerns. Now my retaining wall is completely coming apart in one section and needs to be completely rebuilt. Thanks a lot… Update: 5/5/2026 Since Creative Landscape left their thoughtful response, I’ve tried twice, unsuccessfully, to reach out to them to see if they would like to ultimately come and remedy the few remaining items that they left me with. Needless to say, I haven’t heard back. Justin, you have my contact information.
