Extremely unprofessional and irresponsible safety practices.
I had a very frustrating and disappointing experience with Bartlett Tree Experts of Denville, NJ. While I was stopped at a red light on Bloomfield Ave in West Caldwell, their crew was grinding a tree stump right by the roadside. A rock flew from their grinder and hit my car window hard enough to damage it.
I immediately pulled into the nearest parking lot to speak with the crew. One of the workers even admitted to the other that he thought it was a bad idea to be grinding a stump with cars passing so close so clearly, they knew the risks. They gave me the number to their Denville office, and I did everything by the book: I called and left a message, filed a police report, and got a written estimate for the repair.
When I finally spoke with someone named Andrew at their office, instead of taking responsibility, he told me they would “split the cost” because they had “no proof” their work caused the damage. In other words, he was implying I was lying even though the incident happened right in front of their crew, and the workers on-site expressed concern about how unsafe the setup was.
This is not how a reputable company handles safety or accountability. The lack of responsibility, poor communication, and dismissive attitude were incredibly disappointing. I would strongly caution anyone considering this company.

Worked with Michael Falciola who helped coordinate his crew and the PSE&G team to remove a 40ft Blue Spruce located within a tied-quartered backyard. Service was excellent!

Friendly and professional company! They did a wonderful job cabling and trimming trees on my property. The job was completed in a timely manner and the crew was very professional. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone.

This place is poorly run. Made an appointment a week out in advance and they call to reschedule, sure. Arborist doesn’t show up because apparently the secretary never informed him of the rescheduling. We make a third appointment and the arborist calls me and tells me at the last minute that the estimate in fact is not free and there will be a charge.

Won’t bother using these guys, total waste of time.

Overall did a very good job. Did exactly what was agreed and left my property neat and clean. However I was a disappointed with the stump grinding. Large areas of the stump are still visable.

Bartlett tree experts are knowledgeable about tree health and will provide advise about the lean, overall tree health, and potential for a tree to fall and cause property damage. They also try to rehabilitate ailing trees rather than just cutting. I love my trees and I trust them to not cut the healthy ones.

Normally I don't feel the need to review someone like this, but my experience with Bartlet has just been awful this year. The arborist that came out to visit me acted like I was iinconveniencing him with him being out there. The back office staff has been unresponsive with multiple calls and emails unreturned over the past couple of weeks.

Clearly they don't want my business so I have gone to another company who is responsive and seems interested in helping me out.

Proceed with caution.

Excellent work !! . At the initial appointment the Arborist provided a lot of relevant information . I've learned a lot. I love my trees and I want to keep them as long as possible. We ended up doing a treatment as well as trimming. I am very happy with the service provide. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and very professional.

I contracted with this company in Feb, before the pandemic and sent them a deposit check. I totally understand the dilemma that companies are in, but no one called me to tell me they received the check, or when the work might be done. I was very willing to wait, but I have seen other tree companies working now, with masks and gloves. I sent an email to the salesmen asking once again when or at least give me a timeframe. He responded with, we will return your check. I find this unprofessional and disappointing that they didn’t even try to explain.

A recent, violent storm brought a 5,000 lb tree down on my garage. According to my town engineer, we had to have it removed immediately or risk the structure of my home. Bartlett answered my call that day, did an assessment, and came with a crane the next morning. In a matter of a few hours, the tree was gone -- and there wasn't even a leaf left in the yard when they finished. They were responsive, their expertise was clear, and they were extremely helpful. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Very poor communication. It started with a verbal agreement (never sent a final contract with prices). Then someone randomly showed up and sprayed chemicals in our backyard without any notice. We have children we play back there. Then we had to call/email multiple times to get them out to prune and cut our trees. After a month of trying to get them out, we finally got someone out here. The worst part is they randomly showed up and asked us to have our neighbors move their car so they can use their driveway. To make things worse, they charge us a late fee for the initial spraying they did a month ago. Robert Lindsley, the arborist we initially met with, is so unresponsive… and angers us every time we think about the poor experience we had. We just paid them everything so we never have to deal with them again. We will need to call another company to do another pruning and trim as they barely cut anything… avoid at all costs!!!!

very unprofessional for a company that calls themselves tree experts. Kevin R. came to my home twice, inspected what was to be pruned, quoted a price for the work which I agreed and signed the proposal. They set a date to do the work and showed up on time with only two men in their crew. They set up to do the pruning after Kevin R. explained to them what was to be done. The men climbed up the first tree and started performing the work. After about two hours they were cleaning up branches they had cut, which were not many. I went outside to see the men and they told me they were leaving and had to make a new plan to do the job. They told me Kevin R. Would call me and left. After three days of me calling and getting a voicemail saying no room in the mailbox I finally got a email saying they could not do the job and they recommended another one star company. there were seven trees in the proposal to be pruned and they did not even complete one. Definitely would not recommend using these so called tree experts.

Everyone was fantastic! Doug's is a true Arborist. His knowledge of tress, shrubs, and "all things trees" is stellar. What a huge difference between Bartlett expertise and just another tree service! He knew exactly what needed to be done and had a great team in place to make it a reality.

When he showed, the lead "trimmer" - Gerber - was professional, courteous and obviously an expert in his field. He told me he has been with Bartlett for 12 years+ and his experienced showed. The rest of the team; Cesar and Pablo, were fantastic. Both off them have been with Bartlett for a long time and their teamwork was apparent.

I am very happy that I selected Bartlett verse one of the many other "Tree Service" companies out there.

Bartlett tree is a fabulous company to work with. I spoke to two other large "tree" companies and they paled in comparison to Bartlett.
Michael, Bartlett's aborist has incredible knowledge and cares deeply about trees and satisfying clients. The workers are neat and clean as well as knowledgeable. The office staff as well as Michael communicates very well. I would not use any other company.

I have used Bartlett service in the past and had great experiences. My first experience the arborist Alan walked around my property and explained everything he was planning on doing. The second time I didn't feel that was necessary but the job still well done. Unfortunately, this year I had a different person and I don't the feel the quality or the customer service was in line with my experience in the past. I know each person is different and may be I should have insisted on being more clear on my expectations. But I just presumed the work and the customer service would be the same. I am not sure how I feel about using the company again.
