Cardinal Landscaping in Madison recently worked on my front and back yards. I have quite a large property and it was overgrown and uneven, with dozens of saplings all over the place. The owner Harry, and his crew did an amazing job. They transformed my property in record time. I'll use them from now on, and will recommend them to all!

These guys are the absolute best. I would give them over five stars if possible. Cardinal Landscaping makes your yard look better than it ever has. One side-note story — the weekend of the freak tornado in Madison, our yard was a mess, and we had 100 Invited guests coming over the next day for an outdoor party. These guys rocked it — they cleared our front yard, side yard and backyard. I couldn’t of thank them more. And, to top all that, they charge fairly, even in an emergency!

Cardinal tacked a residential drainage problem that no one else would touch. The entire area is now dry thanks to John and his crew. They are reasonable, professional and very knowledgeable. I'd recommend them for jobs on any level!

I recently used Cardinal to help alleviate sitting water in my yard. They were extremely helpful and responsive in taking care of my problem. The yard is dry and no longer has sitting water. I had issue with water inside the garage and basement. John provided a solution, explained the options to resolve the problem with estimate. He installed channel drain, dry well units and corrected the driveway to prevent water running towards the garage. He always returned the calls/ emails promptly. His staff is courteous and the work was finished on time and on budget, per estimate.

Starting with our unscheduled intake call…John was/is pleasant, patient, diligent and friendly. The job itself was/is relatively basic and straightforward…but the backyard presents a few curveballs. In any case, John took time out himself to walk the property—again, this is a basic lawn cut job, a walk thru probably not necessary. When I asked John as regards…he said it’s the way he’s always done it, even for the smallest of patches of grass—ensures full alignment between homeowner-landscaper-crew.

As far as the work itself…The crew arrived in the estimated time zone. They were/are courteous but focussed, diligent and efficient. The front lawn looks the best it ever has—perfect height, edging great, no cut grass mess (at all!). And, those backyard curveballs I thought might pose a small challenge—NOT A PROBLEM .The backyard looks GORGEOUS…until now, we were resigned it just wasn’t likely to be.

Really can’t describe just how thoroughly pleased and happy we are with CARDINAL LANDSCAPING.

We had spoken with a few companies in regard to our drainage problem and the best way to handle it. In short, we had a blockage in the piping leading from our sump pump to the street which was resulting in overuse of the sump pump as well as a pooling of water on our front lawn from the broken piping. John, at Cardinal Landscaping, was one of the people we had discussed this with. We liked John’s solution the best and hired him to do the work. The rerouting of the piping was done very professionally and we are very happy with the work that was done. There is no more pooling of water on our lawn and the sump pump is not needed as often. We would very much recommend John and his company for this type of project. We have also had Cardinal Landscaping assist with other landscaping work and are happy with their work.

I had some drainage issues in by backyard. John was very responsive and extremely knowledgeable. Answered all my questions. Then he and his crew did a great job installing a catch basin and also tied in several downspouts to alleviate the problem. I highly recommend Cardinal Landscaping for your drainage needs.

We started using Cardinal in Chatham Borough, per referral, in 2013, and it was the best move we could have made in terms of keeping our property beautiful. John and his crew did everything... Installed a dry well; fixed patios and walkways; installed walkways; planted trees and shrubs; took care of the lawn; and performed autumn leaf service. I hired Cardinal landscaping to install a patio in my backyard. They were responsive and helped us pick out the product and we were super happy with the recommendation. They came when they said they would and there were no hidden or extra charges like other companies. They also Finished very quickly and the finished product looks beautiful. We really appreciated how well they cleaned up too. Some companies leave a mess but not them. I HIGHLY recommend them for a patio installation.

A major drainage problem mysteriously developed on my property last year. My property is on a hill, and the existing drainage system had always worked fine. Unbeknownst to me, neighbors further up the hill had made changes to their drainage, because their property had been affected by a major construction project nearby (several apartment buildings being built, with a huge amount of paved area that was previously wooded). I got several estimates, including Cardinal. The owner spent a significant amount of time really trying to figure out the cause and a solution. I was impressed, but also had my engineer son speak with him. He too was also impressed with how John was approaching the problem. I put my trust in him, since I had never had to deal with such a problem, and he provided a great solution ---- and within my budget. The new drainage system has worked perfectly, and John made several follow up calls to make sure that it did. He even called me 8 months later during a serious storm to check on it. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

We hired Cardinal in the spring of 2024 to resolve our terrible yard drainage issues that we had been having since we had moved in to our home almost two decades ago. Despite having had french drains in the yard and a sump pump system in our basement when we bought the home, our yard continued to flood to the point where water would pour into our basement several times during the severe storms we've had in recent years. We attempted many times to make improvements to the existing system with various companies to no avail.

John approached my water problem like an engineer would. He carefully listened to my my explanation of what was happening and studied how my existing system was set up. After assessing all the information, he identified what could be causing water to back up into my yard.

John diligently oversaw his team of professional and courteous workers throughout the project. When we uncovered what was actually going on underground, John adapted his plan and explained the additional costs and time required (about a week in total).

Ultimately, the towns culvert that enters our property is what made this a much more complex issue. Additionally, they have a rule in our Township that does not permit additional drainage pipes to the street. John handled the scrutiny coming from the town public works and the bureaucracy that it brought with it so that we didn't have to.

Since the new system has been in place, we have had a couple of severe storms. The most recent rain event proved that the system, while a great improvement, is not perfect. The yard still does accumulate water as the drains cannot keep up, however, it is routed away from our house so that our basement has not flooded. We may still attempt to gain a permit to add another pipe to the street so that the water can drain before it has a chance to pool.

We had a persistent drainage issue in our yard that John was able to solve after years of failed attempts. They installed a network of french drains, catch basins and river stone to completely solve our water issue and make our backyard usable. John and his crew were extremely professional, quick and affordable. I recommend Cardinal for any of your drainage and landscaping needs, we certainly will be working with them again on future projects!

We have a really significant neighbor runoff issue coupled with high water tables and dense shade creating a recipe for mud and slop. John came by to assess the situation and came up with an awesome design and plan for solving for the water issues with a great drainage solution, while maintaining the aesthetics we come to expect as homeowners.

John did an excellent job of maintaining our property including cleaning it up, laying grass seed and lawn treatments, doing weekly cutting, and even snow removal.

John was always very responsive - you could count on him to return phone calls and messages. When something needed more immediate attention, he was always there.

We hired Cardinal to complete two drainage jobs at our house.

The first was a few years ago, putting in a drain in our front yard to redirect large volume of water that was flooding our front yard and running into our driveway, causing large volume of water to flow into our sump pump. John and the Cardinal team were very responsive and professional, they came and completed the job quickly and most importantly, effectively. The solution John & team designed cut the volume of water casing us problems by 90%!

We just hired Cardinal to do another drainage job for our backyard. We had similar, but worse, drainage issues in our backyard. John and team again, did a great job, dealing with several unforeseen issues that came up and got the job done in a day and most importantly, came up with a solution to the additional challenges on the fly.
