I moved into a home in the northern NJ area in November of 2022 that had heating problems from day 1. As we had just spent a large portion of our savings on the home purchase, my fiancé and I decided to hold off on addressing the heat issue until we couldn’t stand it any longer. That day came around Christmas when there was a massive cold front in our area, and our house couldn’t get above 50 degrees. We contacted Whelan & Ives and they had a technician at our house the very same day. He thoroughly described to us the issue and the course of action. The boiler that came with the home was over 25 years old and needed replacing (a large expense), but he knew that we were new homeowners, and he recommended a plan that would get us through this winter without having to immediately replace the boiler, to give us some extra time to save to replace before the next season. He was able to get the heat back going and it’s been working ever since. The pricing was very reasonable and the service exceeded my expectation. My only regret is not calling sooner! Thank you Whelan & Ives.

Left a message after hours with their answering service, and Scott was back to me very quickly. We discussed the problem I was having with my central AC, and he scheduled a tech to come out the next morning. He called back himself before the tech arrived, to follow up with me. The tech came and fixed the issue quickly. Excellent service, would definitely recommend.

I had Whalen & Ives come out at the beginning of the season for a yearly tune up and to become a "customer" ("customers" get priority emergency service). About 500 dollars later for the service and some new parts on my old system things are working fine.
The problem comes a month later. My AC dies on a Tuesday afternoon and I call for service. The woman on the phone asks if I'm a customer - YES, so they'll be out today! 500 bucks well spent a month earlier to get someone to come out the same day. Well, 7PM rolls around and my wife asks what's up, why aren't they here yet... I say don't worry they'll show.. Maybe we should call to see how long?
I call and they tell me my service was cancelled because "someone" told them it was just a thermostat issue and I didn't need anyone to come. If I still want someone to come today it will be a DOUBLE CHARGE for after hours.
To recap: I call and am told they're on their way. I wait about 5 hours and call again, and they tell me they cancelled my call, for honestly what sounds like a lie, or a massive misunderstanding. Nobody in my house cancelled that service call. Then try to charge me DOUBLE to do what they promised 5 hours earlier.
Take from it what you will, I''m no longer recommending this company to anyone.

Personable people, knowledgeable, good service. They installed and service our central air conditioning system. This past November they replaced our furnace. They were excellent throughout the process of providing an estimate and getting the work permit, to communications and getting the work completed. The crew that installed the furnace was very professional and did a nice, clean job. I highly recommend Whalen & Ives.
Update: This month (June 2022) I had W&I replace our 16 year old A/C system because it wore out. Another great job by W&I, this time by Alex and Eric.

Whalen and Ives continues to be the best A/C and Heating company out there. Over the years I've had them replace an older A/C unit and continue to use the company for annual maintenance contracts to service our A/C and heating units. When I've needed service, I am always so pleased with the quick response and excellent repair work done. I recently had a problem with a unit that had been installed by another company prior to us knowing about Whalen and Ives. It was an issue that was very difficult to resolve. Whalen and Ives sent their crews several times who then worked tirelessly in extreme heat to fix the problem. It works perfectly now and I am extremely happy with the results. Scott the owner personally called me several times during the process to make sure that I knew what was happening. I was expecting a large bill for all the work that had been done but in the end there was no charge to me be because we have the annual maintenance contract. Now that is great service! Thank you Whalen and Ives!

Absolutely very knowledgeable and very professional company. I used them few times, and every time exceptional service. Today I had Nick and Vinny working on my unit, I can’t thank them enough for their work. VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER !

David Jr. met with us, reviewed our property and spent a lot of time outlining exactly what the work would entail as well as a detailed timeline. On the installation date the team were punctual, efficient, and incredibly clean. We were so impressed with their work as it was the smoothest and easiest installation we've ever experienced. Just a quick update. This afternoon my AC stopped working and Tina answered the phone. Within 30 minutes Bob came to look at the AC Unit and found a loose wire connection to the air handler in the attic. Within 20 minutes the AC was back working. I cannot recommend this Company enough for quick and professional service !!!

I have been using this company for several years now and I am very happy with their service. Chris O. came to do an annual check up of my AC unit and was extremely professional and thorough. They never try to sell you anything that is not needed like some huge companies do !!

My AC has been serviced by Whalen and Ives for over 20 years and have had nothing but excellent experience with their products they sell and the maintenance they perform. I recently decided to have a mini-split AC unit added to my home to maximize areas of my home cooling. Chris C, Sales, was tremendous guiding us through the design and recommendations and all necessary paperwork. The Installation team was fabulous and the install went seamlessly! They were timely efficient and left the home impeccably clean. Finally we also had our primary A/C serviced on the day of the mini-split install so we are ready for the Summer ! Very grateful to Scott Ives and Dave Whalen, and the team for this excellent experience!

Had my boiler fail last week and had no heat or hot water and a pending freeze coming. Whalen and Ives were able to remove and replace boiler and got my 6 zones up and running within a day and half. Heat, hot water all working great before the cold blast. Excellent work, top notch technicians and great installation.
