Could not recommend Lively Oak/ Jake more. They are a five star service. I work for a landscaping company in New York City and we only use lively oak. If Lively oak is busy we postpone the work. Professional, on time, always easy to work with and the work itself is only that of the highest possible calibre.

It was a wonderful experience having Jake Nager consult on the health of the trees around our Brooklyn home. He was very pleasant, punctual, professional, and provided fascinating and useful information. Additionally, he was generous with his time, even with the rainy weather on the day of his visit. By the end of his stay, I was much more knowledgeable about the growing things on our property (including weeds,) their origins, history, and our options. We asked about planting a Japanese Maple, and he gave some helpful encouraging advice, but also educated us about some native tree alternatives that might meet our needs even better.

We were even impressed by the modifications of his bicycle allowing him to transport his climbing gear used for tree pruning when necessary. He generously offered to apply part of his consulting fee to tree work we might need in future, while not encouraging unnecessary pruning. He spoke not only about aesthetics but, most importantly, about what was healthiest for our trees and our little ecosystem. Overall, it was a fascinating educational and practical visit by someone who formerly worked for the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. Mr. Nager went above and beyond the call. Including that after the visit he emailed a wealth of information about the trees, vines, and flowers he mentioned during his visit and referrals to other related professionals and services we asked about. Highly recommended.

Jake was very professional, knowledgeable, communicative, punctual, and great to work with! He cut down a couple of small trees from our backyard and he made sure to take care of all the wood and branches in the way the NYC department of sanitation requires it. Would definitely recommend!

We cut down a tree in my backyard and he was able to wrap up the leaves for compost and save me the wood for future firepits. Jake came to look at our old cherry tree. After listening to our goals, he made very thoughtful suggestions. He explained the reasons behind his suggestions. He sent us a proposal that we found very reasonable.
When he and his crew returned to do the work, they were near and efficient. Again he explained what he did and shared observations about the tree that he learned along the way.
I recommend Jake and his team very highly.

Had a great experience on our first consult with Jake at Lively Oak. We have a tree in our backyard that's growing at an angle and he gave us helpful guidance on how to monitor it. We worked primarily with Jake. Jake was excellent with communication and providing options. He never pressured me into tree removal. After much conversation with Jake, I chose taking the tree down for long term safety.
Jake was very considerate about the loss of the tree and how it affected the ecosystem. He persevered the trunk of the tree to ensure some benefits for wildlife. Jake was very fair with pricing. He was punctual and his crew was great. Jake honesty made this a very positive experience. I don’t usually write reviews but I really appreciated that this was not a stressful experience. Jake and his crew did an amazing job with our tree! They took so much care, pruned it perfectly, and left our yard cleaner than when they got there! It's also incredible that they do it all so carefully and quietly without large chainsaws and trucks. In addition, they were way more reasonably priced than the other quotes I received. Jake was great and very helpful. After a quick assessment, he pruned two tress in my backyard in the way that's best for each tree and got the Akebia vine in control. Excited to see how it looks when the leaves come back in the Spring. Highly recommend.

I hired Jake, owner of Lively Oaks, to remove a small tree and prune other shrubs in my yard. They did an excellent job. The tree was removed, and other small trees and bushes were pruned with their health and beauty in mind. After, the team cut the trunk into firewood and neatly stacked the wood. They laid out cedar chips and cleaned up the yard leaving it looking like it was just professionally landscaped. Jake knows his trees and pruned them so that they’ll thrive in years to come. I highly recommend Lively Oaks.

Highly recommend Lively Oak. Jake and Fadiga are fantastic – easygoing, highly skilled, and clearly passionate about what they do. Communication was excellent, pricing was fair, and the pruning of our very large backyard redwood required serious technical climbing, which they handled effortlessly. The site was left spotless. We’ll be using them for all our tree care needs moving forward.

Jake is absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t imagine anyone else taking care of this job with more enthusiasm and genuine care for the tree and work. We had two huge blue spruces and an eastern red cedar that had grown near power lines and the house while suffering strong die back. They’d been a nightmare for us for a couple of years, but only because we hadn’t found these guys. Jake did fantastic work, the price was easily the best of the many quotes we’ve gotten, and honestly I will never believe another arborist would have done the work with as much skill. It was amazing thing to see, and to learn from. He’s gotta be the best in the Catskills. Very very highly recommend.

Last weekend, on a Saturday morning, he skillfully and quickly brought down four dead ash trees (two were quite large) on our property in Halcott Center, felling them with remarkable proficiency in placement. (Catskills woods are suffering from ash borers, , resulting in lots of dead ash. At least we can convert them to firewood now that these four trees are safely on the ground.)

I expected no less, having witnessed him a few weeks before take down a neighbor’s giant dying spruce tree and a rotting large cedar tree, both situated very near the road running by their house.

It was a pleasure working with Jake from Lively Oak. He was able to prune two trees in my front yard, and help diagnose and try some remediation for a struggling dogwood. He also took the time to give me some tips about self-pruning so I can keep the lower branches (not climbing any trees myself, though it does look like fun!) tidier between professional pruning sessions.

I also felt like he was quick to note trees that *didn’t* need any work, which I appreciated.

The absolute best tree service in NYC, Tree Tech did a phenomenal job pruning our 90 year old ornamental black mulberry

Eli did great work cutting back a mulberry and maple tree in my back yard, he is a skilled technician and his fine pruning skills are impressive as evident from his work hewing my hedges in the front of my house. I will definitely use Tree Tech again.

Huge thanks to Eli for giving my beloved pear tree a bright new future and tidying up my my whole backyard! I love that he's local, a true tree whisperer, and very communicative. I've used other arborists in the past, but now I'm a Tree Tech evangelist.
