They charge a fee for their initial design, which is not particularly creative or reflective of the individuals they're working with. The proposal was extremely common, uninteresting and it would've required a great deal of back-and-forth work with us providing most of the creative changes to make it more interesting. We ended up choosing other landscape designers who were far more pleasant, creative, affordable, and generous with their time. Still ended up having to pay their design fee even though we didn't use it and was nowhere near what were hoping for. On top of that, the estimate for the work needed to create this very common design was rather high relative to other landscapers. So in general, unless you want run-of-the-mill landscape at an above average cost , I would avoid this company.

Update: They just issued my wife a court summons for the cost of the estimate, plus interest, plus court fees. All this for $250 "design" that most landscapers provide free of charge (and higher quality I would add)

They are a huge snow removal company and o. The first snow there subcontractors don’t show up leaving cars stranded In a. Apartment complex in Beachwood. Phone goes straight to voicemail, operator voicemail full... hell im in a tow truck and I’m buried. I’ll be sending you the bill!

They took a month to do a three day job. Damaged my shed with a backhoe and wore a path on existing lawn and refused to repair it without argument. No or poor on-site supervision. Several items not done to plan. Have a dead tree that has not been replaced. Poor communication from management.

H & M was hired to plow a commercial building and killed 5 trees by oversalting when they plowed. This was confirmed by a respected Arborist and they still refused to replace the trees without signing a 2 year contract. They don't stand behind their work and I consider them to be unprofessional because of the forestated reason. They gave me the run-around and had only excuses for the problem. In the end they denied they had anything to do with the problem. There are lots of other Landscapers who deserve the work. I would stay away from H & M.

I hired H&M to fertilize my lawn. My yard has never looked better. Jerry was so easy to work with. They did such a great job, 4 of my neighbors now use H&M for their fertilizer service.

Best landscaping firm we've ever used (and we've dealt with a few!) Steve P. and all his crew are trustworthy, meticulous, friendly, and professional. They're the kind of guys you feel comfortable having do work around your home. We've hired H&M to do design work, hardscape and softscape installation, and repairs to work that OTHER landscapers had done! Our yard gets compliments all the time, making us so happy we hired H&M!

This is absolutely the worst place to rely on for any type of snow removal. My place of employment has hired H & M to plow our lot. The employee parking lot is NEVER clear. We have a huge facility with alot of grounds that tow motors need to be drive on. They do one push down the middle and that's it. They clear nothing!

They do our residential development landscaping. We’ve been living here 3+ years now, and each year they seem to care less and less. Between the laziness of how they’re getting things “done”, all they care about is their phones, and now they just decide to pull their car up to clean it out while on the job.. I’ve seen people review how they charge fuel fees, which if that’s the case, why do they waste it by letting equipment sit & run with no one using it?? Previous years, they got it done in no time and it actually looked great! Now? They just take forever... and it honestly looks like Lake County’s Work Release Program.... I’m not the only resident with these issues. Careless..

I've only used H&M Landscaping to shut down my irrigation and do some minor repairs. I have had good experiences with them for that, but on my last bill, they included a $5.60 "fuel surcharge due to the increase cost of petroleum during the month of November." Even if one assumes that fuel prices were 30 cents higher per gallon during that month relative to the last 12 months, which is generous, that would not justify a charge of $5.60 to travel the 36 miles round trip between Newbury and my home. If their truck gets only 10 miles per gallon, the resulting difference in fuel cost would be $1.08 for the single trip they made to my home during November, a mere 20% of what they charged me. This is a either a disingenuous way to squeeze more money out of customers or a poorly-conceived way to recoup costs, and I will no longer be using them for my irrigation needs.

Should be a zero. Be aware. Fired them after 1 visit over a year ago and just got a bill that should not be! Had to pay to repair the yard, complete the spring clean, beds, and mulch. Was told that their would be no charge-communicated 5 months later, handled again, until now 13 months later sent to collections! Poor quality, Poor Service, Poor everything, shading and not trustworthy at all. STAY AWAY!

STAY AWAY! Damaged 18 of 48 cement driveway panels, all while we were complaining... They did not take responsibility for the $16k repair. We were advised by owner we didn't read fine print closely enough! :*( They drove machinery off unsupported driveway edges cracking panels. They drove up driveway with large dump trucks and machinery loaded with stone and boulders majorly cracking the driveway. We couldnt replace cement panels without looking like a checkerboard. H&M shorted us 10 ton of 13 ton of stone contracted for in front yard. Brought stone when funds withheld. 85 plants and 3 trees died the 1st year. How does that happen when H&M controls the design, the environment (sun & shade), the soil, the irrigation system installation and set up, plant stock quality & the planting process? Charged us $7k (5X) for repair of carved tree that cost us $1400 to carve, by going WAY beyond scope of labor approved without calling for authorization. Took down 2 stone walls and one blue spruce 3' round plant that were NOT part of the project & packed up our stone to take away, then billed us to later rebuild shorter version of one wall. Two soldier upright stones at the ends of stone walls tipped over because of improper foundation underneath. Nearest part of stone wall started coming apart. We paid $300 for another to come in & fix. H&M put in a dry space system under our deck that failed, requiring $3k for another carpenter to fix. The irrigation system was inadequate for gardens installed requiring me to spend hours watering. We called in another company to fix to save remaining plants. Project Manager lied to us about water falls pump removal... stranding us in -11 degree fall weather risking freezing in our 2 new pumps. We had to call another landscaper in to remove pumps. After design completed in both front and back yard, they had to come back following year and put in french drains because water was now coming at the house. Garage cement block wet because cameras showed they broke the drainage pipe. Cameras also showed that in one case they cut the pipe handling front of house gutters and just buried the pipe in ground. Some fixed by H&M, some by others because no longer trusted work. Then I got earful on how much our job cost them in rework? Some of 5 star reviews below are by H&M employees. And in closing, this year when our project is just 3 yrs old? Our rounded 2.5' elevated retaining wall has cracked apart in 2 places and all 3 pieces are slanting outward... Hiring others again to come in and fix. Buyer beware!

We love the work H&M did for us!! We had a large paver patio with a fire pit and half wall installed. From the design by Mark to the amazing crew led by Chuck we couldn’t be happier! The crew was so meticulous, showed up every day from the start to the finish of the job, and was so polite and professional. Our backyard looks amazing. We can’t wait to entertain this summer!!

They just did our patio project during the winter/spring season. Thankfully, it was a mild winter and it was basically done come April. The work and professionalism of the H&M crew were outstanding. Their work far exceeded our expectations--turned out beautifully. Thanks to Mark, Joe, Bill and the rest of the H&M Landscaping crew. We will be enjoying our patio for years to come!

July 26 we signed a contract to put a covered patio addition and use composite on the floor. The price came to about $80,000 when we signed the contract they wanted a deposit of $14,000. I don’t usually do that but I knew H&M landscaping and they have been in the area as long as we have and we have some family connection to his brothers. After much going back-and-forth with our HOA as we live in a condo they finally denied us the addition and we have a letter from Carlisle management saying that they denied us. When we signed the contract. I made sure to have in the contract, a statement that said if we did not get approval from the HOA, he would give us our deposit back. So when we sent the letter over in the contract to H&M the letter being the one we got from the HOA denying us. They sent us a letter saying that they usually take a 45% cancellation fee and they’re being real nice because they’re only going to keep her 14,000 and we have till April 1 to sign back up again if they kept the 14,000 would go to charge the job and if we don’t tell them by April 1 then we lose the money. But the contract clearly states that if the Hoa denied us then, we get our money back he’s trying to say that it was our decision not to go forward which is not true. I contacted him early this week I believe Tuesday which was October 3 and told him that we need our deposit back and I did talk to him. He was trying to put words in my mouth that we were the ones that didn’t wanna go forward which would mean that I don’t get my deposit back and I told him repeatedly that the HOA didn’t approve us after much going back-and-forth and then we have a letter. And we have a contract that says will get our money back if the HOA doesn’t approve us, it’s pretty simple

The customer that filed the complaint doesn’t Mark M******* keeps trying to put words in my mouth so that he can get away without giving us our refund. His work was substandard. His drawings were substandard and that’s why we couldn’t get anything approved from the Hoa. You’ll see in the attachment that he’s trying to charge us four times for drawings that should’ve been done properly the first time the total for the drawings that he’s trying to charge us is $2350. The drawings were too small, he used drawings from another job that he thought he could get past here, and the other two were not correct either and it was supposed to be on scale paper. We have a letter from the HOA saying that they denied us, we have a contract that said he would give us the money back. His charges on the bill are absolutely bogus. They’re actually funny as they’re such made up charges. His person did not come out here six times. And when he did come out, it was a cost of doing business because we needed more details before we could go forward with the project.
I wish we had checked further, because if you look at his reviews, he’s got many negative reviews and lawsuits in all counties Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake County’s. They are about contracts and money being returned.
He’s been in court many many times open this, Has to hire an attorney, you would think he would learn.
Other contractors that we have talked to since then, say that this is what he does, and they looked at the charges that she was charging us, and agreed that it was bogus, made up charges.
With the bogus charges that he’s giving us on the attachment, he’s really just stealing our money. This seems to be a way of how he does business. Very unfortunate. It cost us 3000$ for nothing as he would not give us back our full depends. Stay away. Very unprofessional.. He wants a huge deposit, then once another big chunk of money before he even starts the job. Deposits are nonrefundable refund.

Larry and the construction team at H&M recently completed installation of a bocce court and sand volleyball court for our home. We would not be more satisfied with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the entire team. I really appreciated the regular communication throughout the process to ensure that everything met expectations - and they exceeded! The entire team was easy to work with and I appreciated having them at our home. I would be happy to serve as reference and look forward to additional projects (I’ve already signed up for regular maintenance work as well). Thanks!

Stay away! Poor quality and unethical management team. Paid $32,000 + for a stamped concrete patio, new irrigation and landscaping. Within 9 months the patio had a huge crack and the paint was chipping, the irrigation system had multiple kinks and weren’t even connected in one bed and caused several plants to die. Contacted the Project Manager who pushed us off for months and when he finally came out his repair was filling the crack with epoxy though we told him that was an unacceptable fix. Contacted the President who came out looked at the patio and said “it’s beautiful I’ve seen much worse”. That certainly says a lot for his company and the low standard they have for a successful project!
If you value quality work and value your money and you appreciate honesty and integrity DO NOT employ H&M.

I use H&M for snow removal across multiple sites in the Cleveland area. They offer a fair price for services and I would recommend them to others. During some storms it can be difficult to keep up but you have to understand they can't have a plow truck for every business, just have to be patient and they will get to it. Mark and his team also listen to the client well, as in one case they were missing a dock door on our property but after pointing it out they serviced it every time afterwards.

Just completed the replacement of a rotting wood deck with solid PVC. But first, let me say that I acquired 6 bids as they were all over the cost map. Of the 3 lower bids, I visited prior work by all three as I don't write 5 figure checks without carefully qualifying craftsmanship. H&M's work was the ONLY work I visited where structural integrity was excellent, quality of layout and joints also excellent. The others looked like they rushed the job and each was sloppy - at the same or higher price!

The trick to my deck was to remove as much of the rotten wood as possible around an existing screened-in room. The room had been build on top of the old wood. With great care and diligence, all of the old wood was removed carefully, with enough removed from under the edges of the room's walls so that the new material fits perfectly. You would never know the room was ever part of a wood deck.

The job was not rushed. All work was done at a reasonable pace resulting in a superb quality job. As a craftsman myself, quality of workmanship is VERY important to me. With all of my due diligence, I found the right guys for my job and will enjoy for years to come!!

Really good landscaping company. My husband & I just moved into a new home & needed some work done around the home I had some ideas but H&M drew up the plans and it was BEAUTIFUL! The new cement edging is a GREAT IDEA WE LOVE IT. I would use them again. I wish I could give them a higher score then a 5 star because they earned It!

Would never work with this company again. Owner is not ethical and gauges customers. Had fiberglass pool installed by them and later found a small crack in the fiberglass. Called Mark and was told he would drain and brace at his cost and I would see why I paid a premium for his services. I went to book the service and received the price of $3,750 to do the work. I immediately stopped the process and reached out to Mark, he would not budge on price, provide any information on how he came to such a big number. I then reached out and found one of his competitors who said they would do it for $1,750 for me even though the didn't install the pool. If they did the pool, the cost would have been $1,250. He tried charges me $3,750!!!! This piece of work was triple the price, he is a unethical business person, in my humble opinion and a complete liar.

Find a different company - stay far away!!!!

H& M just completed our patio, we are so happy with how it looks, it is just beautiful! Everything we asked for we got, the pattern for our pavers was spot on, the stairs are awesome! The entire staff from beginning to end were so professional, polite and "hard workers". They worked in unbearable heat and finished on time! Thank you H&M I will recommend you highly!!
