I have a few 100-year-old trees on my property in SE Portland. After trying a number of tree service companies in Portland, which were either not very responsive or far too expensive, I finally came across Alex from Grateful Trees. Alex was super-knowledgeable, explained what needed to be done and what will be needed to be done in the future and quoted a very reasonable price. He then arrived at the day and time he promised and swept and hauled all the debris. Highly recommended!

Alex of Grateful Trees was great to work with! I've used other tree pruning services in the past and I was much happier with my experience this time.
As part of the bid he took the time to walk around my house and talk about the trees and what my long term goals were for each. His bid came quickly after that, was more than reasonable, and gave me an option to remove the debris myself to save some money or pay him to remove the debris for me (no other service has offered this up front, although admittedly I didn't know it was an option so maybe they would have if I asked for it?).
Day of service he checked in but then was out of the way and unobtrusive. My partner works from home and Alex was considerate enough to check in ahead of time and make sure he wouldn't be too disruptive. Before he left we did another walk around so he could make sure everything looked ok and so he could let me know the things he noticed during the service (like one of my trees/shrubs may not make it next year because of a potential disease. Spoiler alert: he was right!). He had also left things looking natural so it didn't look like they had just gotten hacked off.
I opted to have him remove the debris, so by the time he left everything was cleaned up and looked great (he also did a great job of trying his best to avoid crushing the surrounding plants and landscaping!). My neighbor was so impressed she asked me for Alex's contact info the same day and I without hesitation have recommended him to everyone I know.

Alex of Grateful Trees was very knowledgeable, professional, and just seems like a nice guy! He did a great job pruning my plum trees, and even gave me advice on a few other trees on my property that didn’t need immediate pruning. I plan to call him again the next time I need tree care services!

He came by to do a site assessment and promptly offered us reasonable bids with multiple tiers of options. Once we confirmed, he was out within a week and did an amazing job! In my yard there's a patch where a holly tree and some Oregon Grape were commingling. I asked Alex to remove the holly tree, but forgot to mention that I wanted the Oregon Grape to stay in place. After he completed his work, I was to delighted to see that the holly was gone, but the Oregon Grape was left untouched. This, to me, is the Grateful Trees difference! Alex knows what he's doing, and has a broad knowledge of native plants. For folks like us who are looking to transition our yards to native plants, his eye for detail without any prompting from us was awesome. The jobs he completed for us were on time, professional, and completely clean. I will definitely be using Grateful Trees again in the future to tackle the big hedge and tree trimming projects at our home, so that I can focus on the fun stuff!

Alex was tremendous. His communication was prompt and clear, and he was really easy to work with. He came out to assess an ailing clematis that occupied a 20-foot span of a trellis in our backyard. After trimming it down to the roots and hauling it away, he talked through some alternatives we could consider if the clematis was unable to return to health. His expertise and helpful suggestions were greatly appreciated.

Alex also trimmed a couple silver maples in our front yard and did an excellent job. I'd absolutely recommend Alex and Grateful Trees and I will definitely hire him for future jobs!

I recently hired Alex at Grateful Trees to come and trim back the tangled mess of trees in my backyard, a job that should have been tackled at least a few years back. Alex is a pleasure to work with. He is prompt, communicative, does what he says he will do, works quickly and was conscientious in every way you would want him to be. Alex (Grateful Trees) was awesome. I was nervous about planting two new small trees that we purchased for our front yard, so I emailed Alex and he responded right away and we set up a time for him to come by. He helped us plan where to put them and then expertly planted them, pruned them, and prepared them for a long life! I also had him look at the other trees on our property and assess what might be needed for them. He was very thorough in his evaluation of their health and wellness and what types of pruning could help improve them. Ultimately, we had Alex prune all the trees on our property (four large Maples, a number of tall conifers, and a decorative Japanese Maple) as well as help clean up a few small bushes and shrubs. He was easy to talk to, super helpful, and cleaned up every last branch and leaf left behind from all his hard work. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone who is hoping to improve the life of your trees, or simply wants their trees looking the best they can. Alex was very helpful and never made me feel bad for not knowing much about trees. Super great guy, an expert arborist, and a dependable hard worker. Five stars!!
