Masonry Contractor reviews in Portland, Oregon

We had a great experience with Louis, Jake, and the team at Portland Fireplace and Chimney during a chimney repair/rebuild and conversion of a gas fireplace insert to a masonry fireplace. They are a professional and experienced team with great attention to detail, and are easy to work with: I highly recommend them!

We scheduled the initial visit for water coming into an interior wall and soft mortar and broken bricks on the chimney of our nearly hundred-year old home. There were initial delays in scheduling and some confusion due to a busy crew after the ice storms. But during a personal visit by the owner, Louis demonstrated amazing insight into the condition of the chimney and the likely causes of symptoms we were seeing. The significant repair work recommended was a bit of a surprise, then during the repair rotting boards on the house behind the chimney were found adding more repair scope. However, with Louis's seasoned advice we made the best out of the discovered damage: getting it repaired right for the long-term.

Jake the foreman, Timmy, Duck, Cale, and the rest of the crew were amazing during the repair: responsible, consistent, and hard-working! They created a beautiful fireplace and chimney from the mantle all the way up. Through the discovery and estimate process for all the changes Jake and Louis was an amazing and reliable resource - with his seasoned advice and good follow-through we could shift and save money where possible and still have exactly what we needed.

I learned a lot about chimneys during this process, so what the other posts say about education is true: they are helpful in explaining at every step what is happening, why, and how to prevent issues in the future with regular maintenance. We are now in a drying period before the final steps so have not yet lit our first fire, but we are looking forward to trying it out and kicking off the next hundred years. I can update this review again in a couple months with our final experiences.

Overall, Portland Fireplace and Chimney was responsible, great to work with, and delivered good value for their hard work. You couldn't find a better chimney team if you tried!

We had two previous companies look at our gas fireplace; both outcomes were ineffective and we just about gave up. We heard about the good experiences neighbors had with Portland Fireplace and Chimney and Brittany got us an appointment during their busiest time of the year! Stephen, the technician, was incredibly knowledgeable and got our fireplace working! He took his time checking everything thoroughly and answered all of my questions. It feels good to have reliable, honest and knowledgeable resources like PFC to help us keep our home functioning and safe.

I recently had a fireplace inspection through Portland Fireplace & Chimney. The inspector, Mike was courteous, well informed, a good reflectively listener, and was able to make meaningful suggestions.
He gave detailed responses and a detailed inspection report, including direct responses to my questions.
Mike was realistic about options and explanations as to the why and how come of possibilities.
I am confident and comfortable in continuing with fireplace services into the future.

Melody is great! She takes great care of clients and is a fantastic resource for anyone with questions about their chimneys and fireplaces.

I have worked with several companies the last few weeks for different repairs and my experience with Portland Fireplace and Chimney was by far the best. First, I appreciated that they didn't have to first know which model fireplace I had to work on it. Second, I really valued the upfront communication and follow-through in scheduling. Finally, the technician was professional and helpful. I was happy to have someone so knowledgeable and trustworthy here. Steven & Brittany were GREAT to work with and I would highly recommend calling Portland Fireplace and Chimney. I know I will have them saved for future needs.

Outstanding professionalism, honesty, no-nonsense.

After a different chimney inspector that starts with A and rhymes with madame told me my entire fireplace was built wrong, with wrong bricks, wrong mortar, and the entire structure is falling apart and going to collapse, I needed a second opinion.

The owner of PFC told me the only problems with my chimney are cosmetic and to burn some wood!

I trust this guy to be a straight shooter and not look for a whale of a client to buy himself a new boat like the A***'s chimney inspector.

I plan to hire them when we have enough money to fix the cosmetic items. Easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. I appreciated that he was able to explain his thinking.

And a quote and estimate the same day! The other chimney guy took more than a month for a quote to rebuild the entire chimney for the price of a new SUV.

Hire Portland fireplace and chimney. This is not a paid review.

Exceptional service from start to finish—safe, clean, and professional. Portland Fireplace and Chimney delivers top-quality work with honesty, reliability, and true craftsmanship. Highly recommend!

Mike came to assess a fireplace problem and made several suggestions. He listened to my concerns and suggested another solution. It would save me money but it would require him to give my business to another company. Not only did he suggest that but he spent some time and made contact with the other company and set the process in motion. The integrity he showed is beyond rare. It is nearly unique. Thank you Mike.

Melody Dixon is so knowledgeable and professional. She knows so much about the business of fireplaces, and I trust she knows how to help you stay safe and warm this holiday season!

Portland fireplace and chimney did an excellent job. They provided a clear, detailed quote and completed the work as promised. Their technicians and project managers were friendly, helpful, and highly knowledgeable. I would recommend their services.

We had a wonderful experience with Portland Fireplace and Chimney. They worked with us on chimney repairs related to a tree strike on our home, as well as long overdue repairs to the gas log system in our fireplace. Everyone involved - from the initial visit through project completion - was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. We especially appreciated the team's flexibility when we had to modify the schedule multiple times, and their level of responsiveness whenever we had questions or needed additional information. Emails and calls were always responded to promptly. Our team included Mike, Steven, AJ and Ty. Special thanks to General Manager, Desirae.
We highly recommend this business!

Professional, efficient, and clean. Our inspector Mike was thoughtful in his communication and took intentional care of our home while performing his cleaning and inspection. I highly recommend PFC for any of your fireplace needs. We were very satisfied with the service. Thanks again!

We had 3 fireplaces remodeled and chimney repaired from Portland Fireplace and Chimney.
Brittany did an excellent job at coordinating and communicating with us about the whole process. Both exterior and interior teams did wonderful jobs. Steven and his team were very respectful, knowledgeable and friendly. Both Brittany and Steven went above and beyond to provide exceptional customer services and made sure we’re happy with our finished project. We love working with them. We couldn’t be happier with the finished results. Not only the fireplaces are aesthetically beautiful, but It’s also comforting to know we’ll be able to keep the house warm if power ever goes out in Winter.

Mike Keller came out and just serviced / cleaned my chimney, he was very nice , very professional, did a great job and made sure everything was clean when he was done. Thanks for the great service

Did not show or call for the first appointment, when contacted I received an apology and another date 9 days later that I accepted. They did not show or call that day either. Wasted quite a lot of my time instead of just declining the job.

Finding and scheduling a contractor for home repairs can be a stressful experience, but from the moment I called Portland Fireplace and Chimney I knew I was in good hands. The people I talked to on the phone were knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions I had, and scheduling was super fast and easy. Mike handled the inspection of our chimney, and did a fantastic and thorough job looking everything over and explaining the status of our chimney. He took the time to answer all our questions and made sure we understood how to properly use the equipment. I would 100% without reservation recommend Portland Fireplace and Chimney to anyone who needs work done.

Portland Fireplace and Chimney is the place to have your fireplace serviced! Melody takes care of the details in setup and is wonderful to interact with.

Could not be more happy with the work. Louis was personable and taught us a lot. The work was impeccable. I cannot believe how clean the chimney was. Louis kept the rest of the room so clean. We have cream colored carpet and not one bit of the chimney material made it on the floor with the shroud he built. Portland Fireplace and Chimney you have made a lifelong customer.

Really good experience with Portland Fireplace and Chimney! Our house has an unused chimney that was blocking part of a room inside our home. We had to get the roof replaced, and before that, Mike came to inspect our chimneys and make sure the unused one was safe to remove. Mike explained everything to us during the inspection, and then our chimney removal was quoted and scheduled within a week. The work was done quickly, and Duck & his team let us know what was happening during the two days of work. We have so much more space inside our home, and our roofer was able to begin work days later. Thanks so much!

Mike at Portland Fireplace and Chimney provided the home seller with a detailed accurate estimate for brick and chimney work. It was apparent Mike was experienced and knowledgeable about the work. All questions were answered with precise answers. We all felt that Portland Fireplace and Chimney was a quality honest company.

Louis, Caleb and Mark helped us update our dilapidated chimney and modernize with a gas insert. They were all really professional and nice to work with. The new fireplace really makes a difference and they even offered to fix some masonry on the property. I now have the peace of mind that our chimney is no longer a hazard and am enjoying the new fireplace so much.
