I chose to give Schellhaas five stars for several reasons. They do great work as shown in the photos, and his crew takes their craft very seriously. It was very reassuring for a work crew to show up and not be composed of rotating day laborers with minimal experience. The installers are very knowledgeable and take the time to do the job correctly and don't mind taking time to explain what they are doing (if asked). Also, Mike, the owner, is very responsive and keeps communication open. He returns phone calls, e-mails, or texts in a very timely manner which is tough to find in a contractor. He also bids jobs appropriately. Too often contractors underbid a project just to hit you with expensive change orders at the end. This did not happen. Any issues that occurred during the project were very clearly discussed, and options provided. They are my first call for all projects going forward.

The entire Schellhaas crew was great to work with for my new driveway retaining walls! After meeting at the South Hills Home Show, Mike came out that week in person to review the scope of work and provide an estimate. During the entire process there was always great communication with Mike directly and his crew on site. Not only was the workmanship outstanding as you can see in the picture. each day the equipment was stored nicely on my property and the worksite was cleaned up. The crew was always respectful and didn’t mind answering my questions. I would definitely recommend Schellhaas for your landscape construction needs!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Mike Schellhaas and Schellhass Landscape Construction, LLC on a paver patio, grill island, and fire pit project, and the results exceeded all our expectations.   We met Mike at the South Hills Home Show at Cool Springs, and from our initial meeting to the final touches, his professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding.

The construction team was punctual, courteous, and incredibly skilled. They worked efficiently while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship. The patio is beautifully finished with high-quality materials, providing a durable and stylish space for outdoor entertaining. The grill island is not only a practical addition but also a stunning centerpiece, complete with all the features we wanted. The fire pit has quickly become our favorite spot for gatherings and relaxation.

Mike and his team transformed our small, unusable "back yard" into our personal paradise. We initially talked to him at the Pittsburgh Home Show and called him to come out and provide a quote for the construction of a retaining wall and back patio. The project expanded to include wide stone steps from the back door, installation of a 14 x 16 pergola with canopy, and an outdoor fireplace on one end of the patio, as well as landscaping around the fireplace. Mike worked with us at every step to choose materials, understand options, and provide a fair cost for the exceptional work that was provided. He was here every day with his team, and kept us up to date on their progress and estimated date for completion. We're thrilled with how the patio project turned out, and would absolutely recommend Mike and his team!

I can’t speak to the workmanship as we wanted a quote for our retaining wall. However, I was very put aback by the fact that, not only was the guy giving the estimate almost an hour late, without a call, he spent 5 minutes at the house before he said he was going to give a quote. He didn’t go over block options, nothing!! Horrible. I believe in reliability and promptness as well as telling us what our options are. Unfortunately, as a result, we will not be using Schellhaas for our needs.

Hired Schellhaas LC multiple times now, including the design and installation of an outdoor living space that transformed my backyard. Mike's crews handled the 3D design and installation of an outdoor kitchen, built-in gas grill, stone fire pit, wooden pergola, low-voltage electrical ground lighting, paver patio and walkways, playground area, retaining and sitting walls, french drains, hard- and soft-scaping, and associated permits, electrical, and gas.

Quality of workmanship is top-notch. It's been three years since Mike's first job for me, and the masonry corners are still as perfectly square and plumb as the day the job finished.

Prices are fair. I bid each one of my jobs across several landscapers, and while some contractors came in lower, Mike clearly had the best knowledge of exactly what the job would require. You get what you pay for.

Service is exceptional. Not just during the job, but long after the last invoice is signed. Mike has followed up to make sure the polymeric sand withstood Pittsburgh freeze-and-thaw cycles, fixed low-voltage lamps the kids knocked out (no charge), and responded quickly to design preferences during the initial set up.

Would hire again.

We chose Schellhaas because of Mike's (the owner) professionalism, vision for the wall, and price. Mike was also the only one to follow up with us after giving the initial estimate. His team was respectful, always on time, and hard working. We had a couple concerns during the process, but Mike and his team were always willing to work with us. If you're in the market for a new retaining wall, I would highly recommend giving Mike a call!

Mike and his crew are great to work with. Our job (a tiered retaining wall, stone patio, privacy fence, and lawn work) took about 3 weeks to complete, durring which communication was excellent. His crew was knowledgeable, respectful of the property, kept the work area tidy, and extremely professional. Mike had great design ideas and assisted us with every step of the process. They came back afterwards to fix one thing that we weren't 100% happy with even after the project was complete. I wouldn't hestitate to recommend Schellhaas to friends and family, and will definitely contact them first for any future hardscape needs.

Mike was a great partner throughout every phase of my project. He worked with me to find the right combination of design and materials to fit my budget. Then he and his team did a fantastic job on the installation. I was very pleased with the process and the end result, and I would highly recommend Schellhaas to anyone!

We highly recommend Schellhaas for your outdoor landscape design and construction. We had a beautiful patio installed with a fire pit and lighting. From design to construction to finish the team was knowledgeable, skilled, polite and delivered a wonderful new addition to our backyard!

Schellhaas Landscape has done 3 amazing projects for us in the past 2 years. We started with a pond, stream and waterfall. Mike and his crew did everything we asked and the result was so fantastic we hired them to do 2 more projects. The second was a new concrete driveway, Ohio Stone retaining walls and new steps to our front entrance. The final project was a 20’ diameter patio area designed to look like a Celtic stone circle. The pictures speak for themselves. Easy to work with from design to the end, Mike’s expertise, insights and suggestions gave us the confidence to let them create these beautiful areas without the need to “supervise” the progress. We’re only sorry that we ran out of projects!
