Love the new location! Great plants at reasonable prices. Way better than what's on offer at Lowes or Home Depot. Also, the people there are knowledgeable about plants.

Do Not Go to this place!!!!! I ordered 6 yds of black mulch and it was loaded with balls of mudd and rocks. I called and expressed that i was not happy with there product and they were nothing but rude and were basically like tuff S**T and dared me to go down to the store if i had any balls!! lol Yet if he had any balls he delivered the material he would of showed up at my door. Please do not use these ignorant people.

It was ok. Plenty of bedding plants... nothing terribly exotic or even special. The prices were higher than I expected, but at least it wasn't Home Depot. That place is a mess. Go here instead.

I like the selection here but the service is awful. The two ladies are quite rude, and couldn't answer basic questions about the plants they were selling. A young man working there got very annoyed every time I asked him a question. I asked three separate people if they had jasmine. They each assured me that jasmine isn't sold around here and hasn't been for years. Ten minutes later I over heard them discussing the jasmine plants. There were four of them! I really wanted to bring home more plants than I did but I don't like giving my good money to rude people.

I absolutely love this nursery. So many good plants, everything is well taken care of. There's no lack of variety either. The staff is very nice and accommodating as well. I go here every year.

If you know exactly what you are looking for and don't have any questions, I guess this place is fine or as good as any. However, if you need advice or have other questions, the vibe is 'we are busy here'. They certainly are not looking for new customers and seem to be in big hurry to end any conversation you might start regarding inventory or pricing.

Very nice people! I like to use businesses local to me. Their selection of plants is very good. It's a shame my front yard is a postage stamp because I'd buy a lot more if I could!

I wish I could like this nursery, but the staff are so rude it is hard to shop here. On the 4-5 occasions when we have visited this nursery, we have asked questions about a potential garden purchase (since they should be more knowledgeable than the folks at the big box store down the road). No matter how kind and cheerful we try to be, the replies we receive range from ignoring us to take a phone call, grunting dismissively, mocking our ignorance, or reading us what's on the package. At no time has any employee stepped up to ask "can I help you with anything?" It's really a shame, because their prices seem decent and they offer many products to support organic farming. We've given them several chances, in case we just caught them on a bad day one time, but no luck. We won't be going back.

I want to like this place, I really do. It must be my bad luck, but it’s the third time I go to this place and they have such a very limited, and expensive, selection. Inside where you pay smells a lot like cigarettes’ smoke. The lady seems either bored or without any interest to sell. She never wears a mask. Plants have no price tag. Honestly, I am unsure why this place is so highly rated. My experience has least been disappointing.

I was in from VA visiting my mom in nearby Lansdowne and she wanted perennials that would do well in the soil at her home. I suggested we visit a nursery for personalized service instead of Home Depot a few blocks up the road. The location was easy to find and the business was tidy.

As novice planters, we requested assistance from the clerk at the counter with choosing a hardy plant for this region. She was reluctant to look up from her phone, which I found odd because she was not a teenager or 20/30 something. She gave some sparse guidance on where the plants we were searching for were ("around back"). I also discussed our inexperience to rouse her to personally assist, but the signal didn't reach her that I wanted her to come with us to provide her expertise (there were no other customers on the premises).

I found my mom and we went "around back." The plants were not organized in a way that was immediately understood (to novices). I went back in and was more direct in my request for her assistance. Again, reluctant to look up from her phone, she told me information about the plants were "on the tag."

It was clear she was not going to assist. So I retrieved my mom, got back into my truck, and drove to Home Depot.

People patron small businesses for their personalized professionalism. the clerk at Hillside Nursery failed the test. It was unfortunate...we didnt care about the pricing, just wanted to support a small business.

My daughter and I went to this nursery looking to see what they had available. Upon walking in we asked the woman, that never greeted us, or even looked our way, where the plants were.. Her response, "there's no such thing anymore". We turned around and immediately left. The lack of service, even respect was enough for us to not want to spend money there. Unsure if it was because we are women of color or because I am fully covered, either way, she was extremely unpleasant. I try to shop small businesses as often as possible but won't give money to businesses that obviously don't want it.

Most staff I saw were not wearing masks over nose and mouth - it did not feel safe there. Rather crowded, too, though at least most customers wore masks. Poor selection of vegetables and hard to find. Prices were good, however.

If you're looking for a great shopping experience for your landscape this is the place. They have just enough of the right things. The prices are cheaper than home depot and lowes. They also have other cute finds like apple butter in the store. I love local businesses that are smaller, intimate and never over whelming.

Called Hilltop Nursery inquiring about Sod, ask several questions, do you have sod in stock "yes, but we only cut to order", do you install "yes but we are backed up a couple weeks", what time do you close, "6pm"
Drove 30 minutes to Hilltop, less than 35 minutes after speaking with the same person on the phone and she tells me they are sold out.? But I just spoke to you! You said that the nursery cuts the sod by order? I was baffled, thinking how could they cut and sale all the sod in 35 minutes. Strange customer experience and a waist of my time.

Thank you for acknowledging me concerns a year later. The facts still remain, I spoke with your associate, rush to get to your location in Clifton heights only to be told that you guys were out. I wish I could have spoken to you when I called to inquire about sod. I still support your establishment but was bother by the misinformation given to because of the distance I traveled.

They seem to have a good selection of outdoor plants, so if that's your target then you're good. Prices also seemed very reasonable to me. There didn't seem to a great deal of indoor plants except for some ornamental peppers, herbs, and spider plants. I needed clay pots and it didn't look like they were selling any. Parking lot is off of Jackson. I had no issues getting in and out.

Skimming through the reviews, I would say they are all accurate, both the good ones and the bad. There are clearly two very experiences that reviewers have left, ranging from great customer service to poor customer service. I have been visiting Hillside Nursery since 2014 when they were at their previous location around the corner on Baltimore Ave. I have had experiences where the customer service is phenomenal and yet also other experiences where the customer service is non-existent. Both of these experiences have been with the same person. There are times where everything looks incredibly healthy and other times when their vegetable plants and flowers are in desperate need of water. I continue to shop here because I know exactly what I might expect. Their prices are very competitive and they offer a much better selection than Home Depot right up the street. I now go knowing that I could get anything from a 1 star to a 5 star experience.

Been going to them for years. They know there stuff. They are nice, they have all things for gardening and landscaping. This year they started selling veggies, eggs and milk. Ducks are cute on the property. I visit multiple times through out the year and recommend them always.

Fresh local produce, healthy plants, and delicious local sourced and produced ice cream. Ordered strawberry on a waffle cone... so creamy, fresh strawberries, and real sugar jimmies!

This is a hidden gem. If you happen to catch her when she's open, Hillside is the place to be for well priced, gorgeous flowers. Very knowledgeable we have some new tips on maintenance and care.

Always come here for a great selection of plants. I got 8 perennials, all healthy and good quality. Been coming since 1990. Now, fresh farm produce too!
