What locals say about Landscaping in Eighty Four

    5

Had several large mulch beds redone, some plants and a small wall removed, and new plants and boulders installed. The crew worked very hard and ensured that I was part of the project from start to finish . The communication was excellent and they were courteous and friendly as well. I highly recommend these folks if you’re looking for a top shelf job.

Patrick and his Cascades Landscaping crew did a great job of making my front bank pop! Beautiful job of planting new flowering plants and a new dogwood tree, too. Highly recommend them!

Joe and his team did an amazing job on our mulch and edging!

Joe did a great job building our backyard boulder wall.

I am most pleased with the work Cascades Landscaping did on our back hillside. For 40+ years we have struggled to maintain it through ground covers, mulch, etc. Patrick and his crew cleared the hillside, applied weed killer, landscape fabric and river rock. A much cleaner look and easy to maintain. And they left a clean job site. We plan to use them again to freshen up our front yard landscaping.

I'll start by saying that I don't like to leave negative reviews. I acknowledge that every business makes mistakes, and that's ok. What is important is the recovery after a mistake. That's where Cascades failed. I hired Cascades Landscaping to install a gravel pad for a shed and use the dirt to reduce the grade on a hill in the yard. They told me they are starting to work with the shed company to do this type of work for their projects. Great! They arrived on time on the scheduled day to do the job. They commented that they talked about the project with the shed company so they were well prepared. I liked hearing this and it gave me peace of mind. The owner ran the excavator. The guy who provided the quote hauled the stone and did prep work, along with two laborers. I had precisely laid out the location for the pad with flags and marking paint, which was 18'x26', and shared details of the pad's requirements from the shed company. I thought that this level of detail would help to ensure a quality result. The yard had a mild grade, so the back was about 2.5' higher than the front, and the excavator operator said he would feather this back for me. I also laid out where my ramp needed to be for the garage door. They brought a transit to ensure that the pad would be level within the shed builder's specs. The work continued and they listened to any requests I had...or so it seemed. Suddenly, the excavator and the operator were gone, but the high side was not sloped, the garage door area was not done, and the dirt behind the shed was roughly leveled (minor). I was assured that they'd come back to after the shed install to finish this. The rest of the crew worked to level the gravel shed base and regrading the hill, all by hand with rakes and shovels. The hill grade looks terrible and slopes towards the house, even though I asked for it be sloped away for water. The two laborers worked hard on it, but it was too much to do by hand; heavy equipment should have been used, but that was gone. The gravel pad looked out of level, but he told me it was within spec and had a 1% drop to the front for water drainage, and to call if we had any problems. I paid them and they left. Next was installation day for the shed. The installers started laying out the base lumber and quickly noticed that the pad was not level. They set up their transit and found that from the back left to the front right, it was 13 inches different, and from the back left to the front left, it was 8 inches different. As I said before, it was visibly out of level, but their transit confirmed how severe it was. At most, it needed to all be within 2 inches, but it should have been even tighter. Also, the pad was too small, by 2 feet in width and 1.5 feet in depth (I saw the excavator operator measure this by "pacing" and never used a tape to measure). This all absolutely had to be fixed for the shed installation to continue. This is where I looked to Cascades to make it right. The shed installation crew was on site and unable to continue. Cascades only defended, "but we checked it with a laser ". I told them how much it was out and texted photos of it. The shed company quickly got another contractor prepped and on their way with more gravel, a skid steer, and a crew. That isn't free. The shed company spoke with Cascades about this, and Cascades wanted to split the fee with me, but that was not an option. They did it wrong; they must fix it. They told this to the shed company, not me, and the shed company negotiated on my behalf. Cascades agreed to pay the entire fee (still not paid after a month). The new contractor came, confirmed the problems, added 5 tons of stone, leveled within 1 inch, all within 3 hours. It's very frustrating that Cascades never came that day. Never called again to check in. Never offered anything else. We all make mistakes, but it's the recovery that makes or breaks the situation. Now I have to have the garage door ramp dug out, the hill regraded, and the back leveled, at my expense. 😡
